For me it's about the visual. If I can't see it then I tend to forget about it. So when I am trying to make something a habit I use visual clues to remind me. Like little post its on the wall or messages on the mirror.

My biggest consistency problem is remembering to sign in and/or track my food for the day. Even if I am careful and try to eat well all day I still manage to mess up if I don't track it. Plus if I stop tracking for more than a day or two I stop everything. I have just recently came back to sparkpeople and I am hoping I will do better this time. What I really need is a reason to sign in every day without fail.
This is actually something I have a lot of trouble with, always have. My neuro diagnosed me with a memory impairment (yeah, at 28!) and I also have Bipolar Disorder and ADHD which supposedly also is part of the cause of my "flaky-ness"? Anyway, I barely remember to keep up with my meds most of the time, so needless to say I'm inconsistent in so many aspects of my life. Definitely something I need to work on.
Great article! Consistency is hard for me. I tend to get caught up in and swept away by the crises that occur each day. This month I am trying hard to track my food and drink my water every single day -- even if I don't eat well or exercise. I think that is helping, because I've been getting back on track much faster than I have in the past. I did have a stretch of 4 bad days earlier this month, but I had stretches of 7-12 bad days during both April and May. Maybe next month I'll manage to limit off-track days to one at a time. :-)
I'd love to hear what everyone else does to keep consistent!
