Oh yes, Nell, I do remember. Those were the day's. I loved corn & peas, and we couldn't have them until after our ?sixth week? I think. That's when I learned to start liking other greens besides lettuce. As I remember we could not have cheese and there wasn't any Fat Free cheese then. Of course I still don't like the fat fee cheese. I go with Low fat or 2% very sparingly. I STILL HAVE MY OLD WW COOKBOOKS but I don't use them.

Interesting about Jean Nidetch. How old would she be now?

I think I will be fine this halloween. I love to put up goodie bags for the kids and see all their cute little faces and costumes; and even some of the scary ones. I will put up the bags a day or two before halloween so I am not tempted to eat anything. Last year I bought like 20 bags of candy, big bags, althogether, because I kept eating them. This year is different, I am different! emoticon

Irene: Remember taking a sharp slicing knife to make one slice of bread into two for a sandwich? And cooking tomato juice down for tomato sauce? I had no problem with the 5 fishes a week, but I admit I skipped the liver. I can't choke that stuff down. Remember the #3A, #3B, and #4 vegetables? After I got to goal they added starchy vegs and beans three times a week. It was austere but I learned a lot and it worked.

I found a recent interview online with Jean Nidetch. She is on a walker in an assisted living place somewhere in Florida near her only surviving son. And she's still at goal. She is a true heroine.

Nell you sure bring back memories. The fish five times a week, and Liver once a week.

I guess my Red Light foods would be salty snacks, I am not a sugar lover, but every once in a while I want some peanut M&M's. Halloween is not a temptation for me.

I got my WW Lifetime Certificate in 1974. I will never get that heavy again. It is too hard to lose. It is a little easier to just keep it off.

Black Licorice...........real black licorice not the sugar free..........My Big Favorite Is Panda. I eat it once in a while now; but I can devour a box in two days so I try and pass it by most the time and eat sugar free black vines.

@Nell..I get it. I lost 70 lbs with WW. And its a lifestyle rather than a diet that they advocate. It was the fist program that actually made sense to me!

I'm no longer with them....but still working on my weight...and i still follow to some extent the program.

Married him because he was fatter? Oh dear!!

Yep. My little ticker is a very old story. I had just had a baby, and my husband had just shipped off to Vietnam in June 1970. I joined WW to get to my doctor recommended weight of 114, and got there sometime in December, can't remember the day. I married that man because he was fatter than I was, but he lost it all in basic training. I got pregnant to avoid the issue (which worked for awhile) but then what? We are long divorced now. He gained his weight back, I didn't because I lost it in WW. WW is a way of life that basic training can't be.

I took WW seriously back then. I learned to look for the foods I CAN have rather than the foods I can't have. The "green light" list is actually very long, although we always used the word "legal". As the years roll by and I keep taking it seriously, I have found that I actually crave legal dishes that I make. There really is WW comfort food and it tastes wonderful!

There are probably a lot of us out there who look like normal people, but we are really fat people in thin bodies. When you see me not pushing my grocery cart down the goodie aisle, it is because I don't want to be tempted, not because I was born that way. Everything I know about food I learned in Weight Watchers.

Is it worth living a WW life every day for over 39 years? You bet it is!!!

@nell...you've maintained for 39 year!??!? WOW! good for you!!

I personally like all foods...however.....my sweet tooth [or should that be teeth? LOL] is LEGENDARY!

Ice cream, cakes, brownies, cookies, etc...NOT in my house. If i do purchase any...it is in the single serving package. It is more expensive that way....but then again...is it?

Red light ... chips, tortilla chips, appetizers .. anything with cheese. I don't keep chips around anymore. I use low fat cheese with strong flavors now so that I can use less.

I think we used to call these "trigger foods". There was a school of thought that you needed to be "strong" and you "tested your willpower" by keeping trigger foods around and "not giving in". Which is really stupid. Why do I need to prove anything to anyone? I just don't keep them around. I can keep potato chips but not pretzels. I can have cake around but not cookies. When I have people over I'll have all the stuff I can't keep in the house, then send it all home with the guests. We all win that way.

And I cut loaves of bread into one day units and freeze them, take it out one day at a time. DH has been wanting to keep saltines in the house, one of the foods I used to eat by the pound 40 years ago, but fortunately my craving had abated over that time. There are a lot of foods out there I've never tried because they weren't invented 39 years ago: I've never bought a frozen snack, thank God, so I don't know what I'm missing.

Even now, I have been thin for 39 years and I still consciously manage my eating. It just doesn't pain me anymore. After all this time I still remember the agony of being the fat girl, and I won't risk that again for any brownie in the world.

Even though I can eat most weight watchers treats with no problem of needing more after one serving....there is a couple of products that I do not purchase anymore.......because I will eat half the box........it's the weight watchers chocolate rolls (I think they may have creme in them, but I honestly can't remember).......and the weight watchers brownies........my son loves the brownies so sometimes I do purchase them and then give the box directly to him so it will be no where in my vacinity.............There is also a couple of slim fast bars that I will not eat..........one is a crispy caramel chocolate goodie........and one is just chocolate and caramel......the first one tastes like a 100,000 bar. I love these and will eat 1/2 the box........so guess what........I just don't tempt myself in that way..............I just purchase other weight watcher and slim fast items......the ones I love, but not "lust" after.......lol

What are your Red Light Foods?

"Were all familiar with "red light foods," those pesky treats we dont yet seem to control. Bringing them into the house triggers a major eating urge. Before we know, were consuming anything that stays on a plate long enough to get a fork into it. (That is, if we even put it on a plate!) Once done with our multi thousand calorie binge, the guilt and shame set in and the thought process, "As long as Ive blown it, I might as well really blow it!" begins. The spiral escalates. Spirit falls. Weight goes up. No food in the house is safe now".
