Best ever lamb shanks
So easy to make and so DELICIOUS!!!
Not a drop of oil in this recipe!
4 lamb shanks
2 lemon or limes, sliced in half (the lemon help make the lamb shanks tender and also take away the strong flavor of the lamb)
5 garlic cloves, chopped
3 large sweet onions, chopped coarsely
3 bay leaves
1/4 teaspoon margoram
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
12 whole cloves2 teaspoons paprika
1/4 teaspoon red crushed pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
Heat oven to 375 degrees
On bottom of large pyrex pan (I used 11"x17"), put the garlic, onions, lamb shanks, 2 lemons or limes, bay leaves, salt,cloves and black pepper.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake.
Every 30 minutes take out the pan and turn over the lamb and mix the onions a little bit too.
If you want it to be more spicy, add more of the above spices, after about 1 1/2 hours.
After 2 hours of cooking, take out the pan again and mash the onions with a potato masher.
Add paprika and red crueshed peppr, if you wish.
Total time of cooking in the oven is between 3 to 4 hours, depending on your oven.
The meat should almost fall off the bone.
The pan should be covered during the whole cooking time.
