Mimi and Irene, thanks for your advice. I think I have the problem solved. I'm absolutely starving by the time I sit down to dinner. It's usually about 6 hours since I've eaten, so I'm practically fainting with hunger by dinnertime. I'm gonna have a 4pm snack in future. I did that yesterday and I wasn't a fraction as hungry as I usually am. I'll keep ye posted! xxx Maria

Yesterday I put a timer for 20 minutes and made sure it took me 20 minutes to finish my meal.
That was such a LONG TIME!
I'll use the timer again.

Here is more information on eating slowly.

Congratulations. That is a good start. Maybe you should not eat after your food gets cold. Ha Ha. You could put it back and eat some more in an hour or so, if you still feel hungary. Maybe you just keep eating because you like the taste, or don't want to be wasteful.
I don't mean to be judgmental or hurt your feelings, This is how I feel sometimes. I hate to waste food, so I just eat it. Especially if I like what I am having. Think about it. Again Congratulations.

You will all be glad to hear I ate my dinner slowly last night - it didn't last 20 mins, but I got a good 10 mins out of it anyway! It was absolutely stone cold by the time I finished, yuck. I think that's one of the reasons why I eat so fast, I hate my dinner going cold. I still finished every last crumb, though....

Mimi, thank you so much. I can't imagine a meal lasting 20 mins! I'd say my average meal is about 5 mins MAX!!! I eat fairly healthily, but I just wolf it down. I'll try those tips starting with dinner tonite!

One of my buddies said years ago, whenever the doorbell rang during dinner, it was her job to answer it (she sat nearest the door) and she'd have to bring her dinner plate with her or her brother would eat it! hee hee

You should see me eat, it's like something from the Simpsons. I'm like a hound. I find it very hard to eat slowly.... That's definitely my downfall.

Must try harder!

In my nature I'm a fast eater.
It took me a long time to learn to slow down my eating habit and I'm still working on it.
It gets better and better.
It's fun watching thin people eat! They eat so slowly and they always stop eating when they are full, no matter how much is left on their plate!

I have always been a very slow eater. My 200 lb Sisters can inhale 2 large plates of food in the time I eat one. I know you get fuller faster by eating slow. You just have to know when you are full and quit eating.

Eating slowly can lead to weight loss
Kathleen Goodwin, RD

Did you ever notice that thin people take an awfully long time to eat their food? Eating slowly is one method that can help take off pounds. That's because from the time you begin eating it takes the brain 20 minutes to start signaling feelings of fullness. Fast eaters often eat beyond their true level of fullness before the 20 minute signal has had a chance to set in. The amount of calories consumed before you begin to feel full can vary significantly depending on how quickly you eat. So slow down, take smaller bites and enjoy and savor every tasty morsel.

Who would like to join this challenge?

Good luck
