I get what you are saying. I most often listen to books... when I run to music I let the song 'carry me'. Fast songs and I am really cranking, quiet songs I go with the song. I like it all, it breaks up the run ... (I did not list any of my quiet songs.)

I can't run with music. As a dancer, I am driven to stay with the beat. If the music cadence is off, I struggle too much. Even if I were to sit down and deliberately create a playlist, an off day would mean my cadence was off... it actually induces more stress for me, really.

IMO Queen has the best beat of any group for running. I never run so consistently well as when I listen to Queen.

I tried the Jurassic Park theme, but that was our halftime show music when I was in school and it is so ingrained in my head that I can't do it! LOL

I saw your page. You ma'am, are a champion!

I'll check your song list out.
(Obviously I accidentally put this in the wrong place -- nutrition. My apologies!)

Any really cheesy "yacht rock" stuff seems to work for me. Some examples:

"Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts
"Steal Away" by Robbie Dupree
Just about any song off of Christopher Cross's debut album

Call me weird, but that stuff just gets me going. Go figure.

I've read lots of "running songs" lists. But I seem drawn to a different sort of music. Do you have a list of songs that may be a little "out of the box"?

Here is my top 15. (this week anyway - almost in order)

Theme from Pirates of the Caribbean .... Soundtrack - It makes you r r run !!!!
I Want Candy (Workout Mix).... Power Music
America .... Neil Diamond
Day-O-Banana Boat Song.... From Beetle Juice Soundtrack
Main Themes from Jurassic Park .... John Williams
Raggle Taggle Gypsy .... Celtic Thunder
Chariots of Fire (This has to be on any list).... John Williams
We Will Rock You.... Queen
Bicycle Race.... Queen
Dance of the Witches
(From Witches of Eastwick).... John WIlliams
Delirious .... Prince
Dueling Banjos .... Eric Weissberg & Deliverance
Ghost Riders in the Sky .... Johnny Cash
Shout .... The Isley Brothers
In the Mood .... Bette Midler
