My longest run so far is a HM, but I like the PowerBar gels, particularly the lemon ones. For my HM last week, I cut them in half and then divided the package half and put each half in a piece of Saran wrap with a rubberband around it. That made it really easy to grab 100 cals worth and not be fumbling around trying to tear open the package. I find them easier to eat when they're cut in smaller pieces.

Gu's just about make me gag, and I've tried a few different brands and flavors. Honey Stinger waffles are good if you have something to wash them down with. I eat one right before I race, but haven't eaten one on course because I don't like to wear a hydration belt.

Voluntary Discomfort is the secret cornerstone of strength. We build our whole lives around increasing comfort and avoiding discomfort, and yet by doing so we are drinking a can of Weakness Tonic with every morning’s breakfast. ~Mr. Money Mustache

I have found Belvita biscuits as my pre-race meal are perfect for me. During the race I use Vi Endurance gels www.viendurance.com/ I had to switch to them when I started to not be able to get Gu down. It was literally gagging me! I only take water during the race and always take it after I have a gel. Karen

I'm a gel and "ade" rotator myself!

Other than my GU gels I have had good luck with Fig Newtons and pretzels (for the salt). I also have used chewy granola bars with good success. I also take my Powerade for my electrolytes.

What is your favorite carbohydrate/electrolyte replacement during a long run? I think I have it right for myself, but I am interested in fine tuning it before my mid October Marathon
