I want to thank everyone for baring with me. It's been rough. DH's thumb is still not showing any signs of healing. They now have him using a type of ultrsound machine that is suppose to promote the bone into healing. It's waves vibrate the pins in his thumb and now he's in horrendous pain all the time. It comes down to the love thing. You love someone so much that you want to do something to ease the pain, but there is nothing you can do. It's frustrating. ***sigh****

This one us sounds yummy. Asparagus Stir-Fry. This is how they describe it: "Fresh asparagus turns out tender but still crisp, coated with a flavorful oyster sauce in this quick and easy asparagus stir-fry. The asparagus is paired with mushrooms and red bell peppers - the recipe uses approximately 4 cups vegetables and is designed to have a bit of extra sauce to go with the rice." No time in the morning for breakfast? Try Slow Cooker breakfasts. Here's one you can make in your crockpot the night before for a warm breakfast in the morning. Of course, since we are here in a diet group… substitute with low fat, low calorie ingredients. This one is Overnight Ham and Cheese Bake. Exercise
Do you have only groups of 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there for exercising? I've kept this two emails from Sparks because they are 10 minute workouts. One is kickboxing, and the other is a 10 minute core workout. It has been found that 3 - ten minutes workouts is just a good as a full 30 minute workout. So give it a shot…your body will thank you… Links… www.sparkpeople.com/resource/videos-detail .asp?video=26 www.sparkpeople.com/resource/videos-detail .asp?video=61
Craft Corner
I am into crafts. Crochet, loom knitting, jewelry, and plastic canvas. Plastic canvas is my favorite. You can make anything your imagination can cook up. I have made shelves, door woodwork sitters, speaker holders, the regular patterns you can find on line and what I'm working on now…a desk/computer mate. This will hold my speakers, pencils & pens, a place for paper, incoming and outgoing mail and anything else I can think of throwing in there. A regular desk hutch to set up over the desk: drawers, shelves and all. There are ways to strengthen whatever you are making. You can put cardboard between layers of the canvas you are working on. I have also worked in coat hangers bent to what I need them in the patterns I'm working on. If plastic canvas is a craft you work on or would like to work on, there is also this software program to help you design patterns. Check it out… Links: www.plasticcanvassoftware.com/
Pets
Please consider your next pet purchase - a rescue. At this time of year, there are many that need a warm home and a loving hug. All those well-meaning Christmas gifts of animals that just didn't work out that end up in the pound. I just can't stress enough how loving these animals can be. How thankful these animals are just to be loved. So please, check your local shelter for a rescue.

Wow, I can't believe it's a new year. Last year just flew by. Now it's not Holiday things on sale…but "White" sale. And I have spent my Social Security Check on some real fuzzy sheets and towels, and ….you get the picture. I blame it on the weather. It just wants me to redo things in the house.

Pets
This is a nasty time of year for pets in the Northeastern parts. Remember to make sure your outside pets have plenty of hay or whatever bedding you use. If it get's to cold please bring them in. A garage, shed something and give them bedding there. The pads of animals feet can get frost-bite. To the point where they have to be amputated. And even though they have fur, they're bodies are much smaller then ours, it doesn't take long for them to freeze to death. So please protect your pet from the extreme cold.

Yup, I'm only doing this once a month. I really want to re-jump start my muse. So I have been digging out some of my series that have ground to a halt.
Doing the Black Friday thing? I did it once...I will NEVER do it again. There is nothing festive, joyous, Christmas-y about Black Friday. Now, cut throat, trampled, cart stealing comes to mind. (If you're lucky enough to find a cart!) Be safe out there. Watch your wallets, carts, kids and it you can't lock your purchases in the trunk...bring a blanket large enough to cover your purchases from store to store. And lock your vehicle. Nothing is fool-proof, but they'll more then likely to hit the vehicles where they can see, crash, and grab. It all comes down to the path of least resistance.
Pet Corner
I know you want to share the festivities with your pets. Uncle Chester slips a piece of roll under the table for Spot. While Cousin Toby, who hates his cream beans, feeds them to Spot off his spoon. Etc. There are a good amount of foods out there that can cause serious harm to FiDo. Turkey Bones being high on the list. They break and splinter very easily. Too much gravy can cause the runs...along with anything else that is high in fat. This is a good article. the only thing I don't agree with is the gravy thing...That person never had to clean up the runs after 6 plus dogs. (I found homes for strays) Until my health went downhill, I always had 3 to 7-8 dogs at a time. Every thing in moderation. And if you don't know what a food item will do your pet....research it or wait to Monday and call your vet. I'm sure he/they would rather you call and ask first then have to see your pet after he's sick. www.petswelcome.com/articles/what-you-can- and-cant-give-your-dog.html
Okay...keeping it short and sweet...
Enjoy your holiday. Watch your portions and don't forget to exercise.

First, I have to offer prayers and hugs to the victims of this awful storm system. What is happening here is nothing compared to what some are going through.
Well, my family is back home from NC and the memorial service for my MIL. She was detrimental in building and starting a Volunteer Fire Department down in Triplet, NC. Right down to actually rebuilding a 57 fire truck for the station. When the service moved to the firehall, the Fire Department gave her the service they give to a fallen comrade. My husband broke down weeping just telling me about it and the ringing of the bell. She was such a down to earth person. She will be missed by many.

Halloween is just around the corner. Jack-o-lanterns, carved pumpkins and costumes. The smell of fall and the bright colors of the falling leaves. And Candy. Did I mention C-a-n-d-y? If your little ones do trick or treat around the neighborhood, don’t forget to look over the candy. Take a flashlight to help you see between houses. Use bright colored costumes, if possible, and keep an eye on your kids. And if there are a lot of houses, take extra bags. I’ve had them rub open from little arms dragging them on the ground, and split from the weight of the candy. Extra bags come in handy. And if you smoke, make sure you extinguish the butt completely. There are usually a lot of dry leaves on the ground.
And… Don’t forget to add the calories to your food tracker of the candy that you eat. No cheating now. LoL
For those that know me, I have a heck of a year. I thank everyone for their patience with me. I’ve gone from care-giver to going through estate papers. I lost the only parent I’ve ever known, my gram, and also lost my mother-in-law. This Thursday, my husband and 2 of my children will head to NC for the service down there. And a couple of you know what happened between my one daughter and I, Thursday, I also have court. I now support Domestic Violence. As I found out, it can happen to anyone and not only by a significant other.

Wow, Here it is, the end of January. It seems like yesterday that I was worrying about Christmas presents and holiday decorations. Now, we’re hoping the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow! But, I must admit, this winter has been very mild. I keep waiting for the proverbial other shoe to fall. It is Jan.31st, and it’s 57 degrees out! It’s hard to call it the spring thaw when nothing is really frozen! I am not going to complain. At least we are not up to our armpits in snow and ice.

Ah…The holidays are upon us. Remember…."A minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips!" It is very easy to forget our diets during this time, I have found that I don't have to do without completely…as long as I eat by one rule: Everything in moderation! I don't have to have a plate full of cookies and deserts when one or two will do. I don't have to have a plate heaped full of Thanksgiving Feast, but I can have a feast by remembering my portions and calorie counts. I also find that upping my exercise times also help keep me in line and not feeling guilty about enjoying the foods of the holidays. So remember when you go to sit down to eat: Everything is Moderation!
If you subscribe to them, you will only get emails about the holiday ads starting from the middle of October. I actually forget about them until I receive the first Black Friday Ad notice. They do not send spam.

No newsletter...
Well, my youngest and her other half are back from the Marlboro Ranch in Montana. (They were picked for an all expense paid trip for 5days, 4 nights.-Including airfare, food, drinks and activities! When they got there, right as they stepped off the plane, they were taken to a conference room at the airport where a lunch buffet was set up for all the guests.
There was zip-lining, horse back riding, cattle drive, off road mudding in Hummers, clay shooting, Yellowstone tour, archery 101 and wild game bow hunting. I probably missed a few, but you get the jest. And lets not forget the Barn dancing and pool hall and Saloon. They had a blast! Meanwhile....I was dog sitting their 5 dogs----plus I have 2 of my own! I have come to the conclusion that I am too old to take care of 7 dogs. I have never been happier to see them as I was when I went to pick them up at Cleveland Hopkins airport. Then they get home and find out their car was repo'ed. It's an old beater on it's last leg..they owe 388 on it!
So, here I am, with 3 grown children....and am back to being Mom's Taxi service! (My oldest- her engine blew.) My second oldest- her tranny sprung a leak, but she's dealing with it herself. She has always been very, very self sufficient. and my youngest...car repo'ed.
So anyway, that's where all my exercise has come from. Running with 7 dogs...OMG! It's like trying to catch 7 - 3 yr olds. All running around at once, 4 to 6 times a day***pheww***.
The newsletter will be back the second week in July...I am taking a vacation. I'm hiding in my closet and only sneaking out once in a while!

Interesting to know to pass along to those we know that are still unemployed.
Summer has officially started…Kids are getting out of school. Winter and spring clothes are being stored and bathing suits are the height of fashion. I stumbled upon this article on how to have fun this summer and not go broke in the process…’Frugal Summer Fun For The Family’ Check it out here: www.couponsaver.org/blog/frugal-summer-fun -for-the-family
And speaking of animals and drinking… remember keep plenty of water available for our furry friends. And Please, don’t leave your pets or children in vehicles. Last year I saw one woman go into a store and leave her dog closed up in her car. I rolled up my windows and sat there waiting. I picked up my cell ready to call the police as it became unbearable for me. Just think of what it was like for a little body in a fur coat! The woman came out just as I was punching in 911.

I endeavor to do a newsletter for the groups that I am administrator of. It kind of serves two purposes...1. It will be informative and 2. It will (hopefully) get me off my butt and participate more. I will put it in as a "sticky post" and post by date. Should you have a request of something you want to see added to it, just Spark mail me here or post on my Spark page. I will also have a copy of each newsletter on my personal webpage (Writing on a Blank Page: katpriebe.tripod.com ) and also on my Sparks Page Blog.
Now, I realize that Sparks also covers their own recipe, exercise and health info., this will be information that is circulating the Internet. Being disabled, I spend an indecent amount of time surfing the web and I belong to and shift through tons of info daily. I keep thinking to myself, there are people here that work jobs and can't spend the amount of time I can, why not share. (I can't stand for any length of time and I can't sit for any length of time... (screwed up spine.)
It won't be lengthy in detail. I can't stand articles that don't have "white" space. There will be about a paragraph for each one and a link to, (if you want to follow up and read more.) a link to find the info., Anyone have any suggestions, like a said...let me know.
