Since I started my journey at 255 several years ago, I have lost 34.40 pounds. That is 137.60 pounds of pressure off my knees.

I was 205/208 (depended on which Dr. I weighed at) at my heaviest in August/July I just joined SP a couple weeks ago and weighed in at 191, I now am at 189! so I am counting from 205, and stating I have lost 16 lbs so that is 64 lbs of pressure!

Well, on my weight loss journey, I am down 6 lbs, which means 24 lbs of pressure off my hurting knees. I am 40 years old, and my knees crackle so loudly that everyone in the same room with me can hear them. I will say that my Dr. advised me to take Glucosimine/Chondrotin 1500 mg a day, and it helps a great deal with mobility. I can even do a good amount of low impact aerobics. I know, however, that my weight is killing my knees and I will be a very old lady at a fairly young age if I don't change it!

I am so sorry that you have to replace your knees but orthopedic docs can do wonderful things. Just think about how you will be able to do lots of things after the surgery, like walk without pain. I believe in the power of positive thinking. And if I do have to replace my knee, oh well. That's life. Hang in there-it can only get better for you.

Mamadare, Congrats on the weight loss. I have to use a cane and need to have both knees replaced. I am trying to put it off as long as I can, but some days it is not easy, as you know. Keep up the awesome job!

Well, I finally weighed myself on Fri. I have lost 6 lbs! I ride my stationary bike for 10 min.now every day & I record my daily food consumption. And I do 6 different exercises for upper/lower body. When I started this program, I had to use a walker. Now I can walk using a "3-footed" cane. I am so glad I joined SparkPeople! Thank you for your support!

As of today, down 22 pounds since June 15 (88 pressure pounds). I like thinking of it as pressure pounds the number is so much more impressive! I'm trying to get fit for our next trip so I won't be lagging behind when we're walking around museums, cathedrals, etc.!

meme, the difference is amazing! Today while mountain biking I found that going up hills was so much easier. I also run a mile that was a complete incline and it also was so much easier.
Next week when I see my orthopedist, he better be proud or I might have to smack some sense into him. haha!

Cynthia,
I've now drop 35.2 pounds and 140.8 pressure pounds. I'm so looking forward to vacation at the end of May. I know that I'll be able to hike the national park in Utah a great deal easier.

Patti, congrats on your progress with the 30/120 pounds lost. Getting the pressure off of your knees really will make a difference. I worked super hard before Christmas just to make our trip to Disneyland enjoyable, and it did make a big difference. Just keep going and you will really surprise yourself and, like you say, your doctor.

My weightloss since I started my journey is 30.2 lbs....that's 120.8 off the knees! That should make my doctor happy when I go back to see him in May. Actually it makes me happy because I know that when we head to Utah in late May, it'll be much easier when we are hiking and biking. Patti

Congrats Rhonda on the 13/52 pounds. We all have a tough road ahead of us, as we all are trying to do this with the bad knees and the everyday pain we each feel, which according to my doctor is almost against all odds, but the best thing we can be doing for ourselves. I am a firm believer that when we all have reached our goal weight, we will have a much greater appreciation for our hard work. For us, it is the difference between walking or not. Enjoy your bike ride, and remember, you will be sore for a while after. Oh.....iPod, or something like that. I find that I really need a distraction while I am riding. I had to move my bike at home in front of the television to keep my mind off of the time. Now days, I go to the YMCA and they have televisions on the ellipticals and the bikes, so I just take my headphones and water and really enjoy it that way. Cynthia

For every one pound of weight that you lose, your body takes four pounds of pressure off of your knees. So.....
I have lost a total of 46 pounds to date and that means I have taken 184 pounds of pressure off of my knees this past year. If we look at it this way, every one pound really counts a great deal for us here at the "Knees Riding Across America".
Feel free to post your weekly weight loss here in pounds and pressure taken off of your knees each week if you would like.
Here is to lost pressure off of our knees. Cynthia
