Oh geez!! I can't imagine, races are one place where I expect as much clean air as possible. I tend to give the, "are you serious" look to smokers more than I think I realize. One of my running routes is around a lake that is popular for walking/running. I have had to pass walkers that were smoking, and I am sure as passed them I didn't look pleased since I was sucking air to the best of my ability as it was.

I have seen runners smoking in the corral! waiting for the horn. I just looked at the guy and gave him a "What?! Really?" look and he sheepishly put it out.

And last Fall when I was at a 10K race, one of the race officials was off on the side smoking a cigarette. Now that's a bit of a mixed message!

And yes, the entry fee for this HM is terrific! emoticon

A lot of races are just giant commercials. It's amazing that people put up with it, no less pay $80 or more.

Check out these photos from a beautiful HM last year that was only $10 and included medals! And parking was just a few feet away from the start line.

That is a different one, but it doesn't seem any more strange than all the beer companies and bars that sponsor races, with a booze fest at the end. Much like the running festival I was a part of yesterday.

$40 is a bargain!

At least you know that there will be their yummy cookies at the finish!

PS: $40 is an excellent price for a commercial HM!

I suppose it's no worse than McDonalds being a major sponsor of one ... seen it!

Seems kind of ironic that a cake company is co-sponsoring a half marathon lol This is just an smaller local run held in October...any Long Island Spark People out there interested in running this?
