Oh I remember that one. A friend of mine ran it, but was still on the course when they shut it down. Runner friends of ours convinced her to run another marathon with in 3 weeks so she could finish. Someone told me that the next year the Chicago Marathon was 1 mile longer (27.2). Oops, who measured that one? I wonder if that is the year it changed from LaSalle Bank to Bank of America.

Oh, and Hope... Chicago weather (heck, Midwest weather in general) is SO unpredictable! Anything over 60 degrees (or sunny) just kills me. Can't even imagine what is what like at the Chicago Marathon a few years ago when the heat index when insane....

Last year I went disguised as an athlete. *chortle* *guffaw* This year, definitely thinking about it. Would have to be super lightweight and have good ventiliation, though. Some of the costumes last year were AMAZING and so inventive!

I agree, starting the summer running season with the Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago, the largest attended 8K in the world, is really fun. Very motivating. I avoided signing up for the R&R HM (which was today), as I thought it might be super hot, so I signed up for the Chicago HM in Sept. Who knew that it would be overcast and in the 60's this morning. Perfect running weather. Good old Chicago weather. I hope we don't get hit with a heat wave on 9/11. I don't spend much time on the southside, so I think it will be a fun run if I remember to look around.

The secretary in our office is going to do the half in September in Chicago. Sounds like a great race and is coming up pretty quick! I see you did the Shamrock Shuffle. I LOVE that race- so much fun and such a good start to the summer running season. :):)

I'm running the Chicago Half Marathon Sept 11. The Monster Dash HM look like fun, but I'll have to see how I feel after my Half in Sept. If I don't run it, I'll sign up for volunteering. I haven't volunteered for a race before, but so much appreciate all the volunteers at all of the races I have run. Thanks for posting about this race.

Thanks!

Team Ortho, who sponsers this race (and the one in Minneapolis) has the BEST swag! (Cause sometimes it's all about the shirt.) :)

Last year our race packet had a hooded thermal reflective pullover jacket and a thick, soft knit hat with the Monster logo. Finishers got a heavy metal medal that also serves as a nifty belt buckle. I registered early this year for October and got a black, nylonlogo hat to wear while training this summer.

The only thing I would have done differently last year is/ was to wear a costume. I thought it was going to be enough effort just to finish the race and opted not to. (It WAS humbling to get passed by Elmo and the Cookie Monster in full, hairy costumes, but oh, well.) :) Not sure what I'll be, put for sure it will still be light and comfortable. (One guy went as Jimmy Buffet and carried a half-full glass blender container with a margarita-like liquid in it!!) Yikes.

Hello~

Anyone doing this race? Ran my first half last year and it was great fun. Looking for inspiration- having some trouble staying motivated!
