SARAHINFL,
Many eat lighter in the summer. The availability of fresh fruits and vegetables makes it much easier, and I personally think, enjoyable. Adding protein to salads is a good way to create a healthy and balanced meal. Melon is a great thing to have on hand. Your idea of jell-o is an interesting one. As for the chili, I with you. emoticon

IRISHEIEI,
Variety, it has been said, is the spice of life. You have a great list of healthy foods from which to select. Each and every one of them offer special benefits.
Grilling is an excellent way to keep the heat from the kitchen. emoticon

Mimi,
You have learned the art of planning ahead. That is one of your most useful tools in gaining and
maintaining success. Portion control is key to weight loss and the grains and whole foods are good for your health. Using the slow cooker is one very good way to eat a hearty meal without creating extra heat. emoticon

Thank you for doing such a great job!!!

I just came back after being away more than two weeks. 5 POUNDS UP! I'm working on it already and I'll loose those 5 pounds!!!
In hot days I drink more iced water, but because I love beans and grains so much, I do eat heavy meals all year long. I like using my slow cooker, so the kitchen doesn't get hot.
That means hot chilis, steel cut oats, recipes with beans and grains.
But, I watch the carbs and PORTIONS and make sure that I have a balanced meal on my plate.
The beans and grains are my protein most days. I like vegetarian meals, although I'm not a vegetarian (yet...smile...)
Today I'm too tired. We flew on red eye flight and I didn't sleep....
Tomorow I'll plan the whole week menu and go shopping for vegies (lots), fruits (much less), etc...

Mimi

In the Summer I hate to turn on the oven to make it hotter in the house. So, I do cook out on the grill or something that does not heat up the kitchen inside.
Chicken, Fish, Sirloin patties or Turkey burgers, ----

Fresh salads, fresh fruit and Greek yogurt (fage) are some of my favorites on hot days.
Even, tuna salads and chicken salads are great on nice crisp lettuce, homemade brewed
ice tea.
I also love my Turkey Chili, but have it more in the fall and winter.

In the heat of summer I start eating much lighter. I eat a lot of salad with protein added (tuna, grilled chicken etc). I also keep melon cut up in my fridge and Jell-o. Rarely in summertime I fix a heavy meal. But I have to add I love chili no matter how hot it is!
