Nancy,
I really appreciate your input. My thinking is similar to yours. However, as I am a newbie to the more rigorous activity I wasn't certain. I, too, get low readings on spark and my pedometer, and I agree that as we are all at different fitness levels we work at different rates. It would only make sense that set properly our heart rate would be more accurate. I know that if I would do half the activity you do, my monitor would be in overdrive. I am not as fit yet. However, I do return to resting quickly. I must be improving. I am even beginning to push the correct buttons.
The amount of activity you do inspires so many of us to keep moving. Thanks for sharing! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Teresa. I use the calorie burn on my Garmin. Spark usually has my calorie burn really low and so does my pedometer. When I work out, I work out at a really high intensity. My Garmin takes into account my heart rate and I think that's more accurate.

I'd love to have a Body Bugg to wear all day!

Mimi,
Congratulations on your weigh-in emoticon I wish I will be able to say the same. Unfortunately, and I still haven't accepted it, I gain two pounds every month. I always consider putting of my weigh-in date until my body is back to where I think it should be. However, I do know that whatever is is, and if I keep doing the things I know work for me, I will be back within my comfort zone.

Once again, Nancy, you have had an active day! 40.1 miles biking- emoticon
I noted that you mentioned using the garmin forerunner. I have been using a polar to monitor my progress. The caloric difference is always so much greater than my pedometer, and even the equipment (polar) at our recreation center. I have always believed it to be a more accurate measure of my actual calorie burn based on individual factors and exertion rate. Do you have any opinion on this?

Teresa

That is quite a ride. I know you will benefit in many ways. emoticon
You are very wise to plan for all of those extra calories. Thank you for the important reminder. Too often, we get caught up in burning calories, but we forget how important it is to get the proper balance. emoticon
Enjoy your ride! Take advantage of gardening if you feel it to be beneficial, and have a successful weigh-in.

Sandi,
Planning is key to success, particularly with individuals whose lives are as busy as yours. emoticon Getting the activity in is much more difficult when we are forced to remain indoors. The silver lining of my bumpy year has been that I have been collecting and experimenting with a variety of indoor activities.
I believe that getting out and walking around your building is a fantastic idea! Every step counts!
Have a wonderful day! emoticon

Incredible Mimi:) You had a great weigh in. My scales were up today, but they were down at WW. I was .4 more than last week, but I drank quite a bit of water on my bike ride as I was feeling a bit dehydrated.

My bike ride was great. I'm going to do it again, maybe once a month until it's too dark in the morning. I have to leave at 6:30 a.m. to make it there on time.

I did a total of 40.01 miles! I had to backtrack at one point because the street sign was gone, otherwise it wouldn't have been so far. But it was great! My Garmin Forerunner says I burned over 1200 calories, which is a lot for me. Not pigging out today, but I am giving myself some extra calories (healthy ones) to recoup.

Thanks for the bee sting suggestion. I didn't, but I will include that next time. I'm not allergic, but it is a good idea just in case several come at me!

It's looking like rain here - I'm going to grab my lunch and hope to get one more flower bed weeded today!

Good afternoon everyone

I give myself a bravo sticker! I came home from vacation last Sunday with 4 pounds gain (some I'm sure is sodium, but some was yummy foods, not WW friendly). I ate lots of sushi too.
I was very strict from Sunday to today, and my weigh-in in WW meeting was MAINTAINING last month weight.
All 4 pounds dissapeared in 3 days. It must be the sodium....

Nancy
Let us know how was your bike ride. Do you also take with you something against bee stings?

Teresa
WooHoo on your walking 2.5 miles yesterday and doing even more exercise, all in one day!!!

Sandy
Great job on your walk!!! What a great idea.
Do you need to eat your lunch while you're walking?.....smile....

I went to water exercises today before WW meeting. I just LOVE it!!!

Gardening and cooking and more ahead today.

Have a healthy day.

Remember!
Walking 2 steps is already a huge progress than walking one step!!!!! emoticon
I'm also serious. Any small step ahead is wonderful!

I am OP and on the move today. Going to ride my bike to WW, then ride home. I have healthy meals planned, with extra points for the increase in activity. Then home to work on the house and yard before the next bout of rain.

START OVER!

START OVER

If you've started out in pursuit of your goal
And you've really tried with your heart and your soul,
but somehow things got out of control---
START OVER.

When you've tried your best to do what you should
And you thought this time that you surely would,
But once again, you didn't do good---
START OVER.

When you've worked so hard to follow a dieters way
And you fought to win a victory each day.
But one more time you went astray---
START OVER.

When you've tried so hard to yourself to be true
And do the things that you know you should do,
But once again you failed to come through---
START OVER.

When the road to success seemed much too long
And each temptation was oh so strong
And once again you gave in to wrong---
START OVER.

When you've told your friends what you planned to do
And trusted them to help you through
But soon discovered it's up to you---
START OVER.

When you know you must be physically fit,
But your hope seems gone and you're stuck in a pit
That's not the time for you to quit---
START OVER.

When the week seems long and successes few
And at weigh-in time you're feeling blue,
Remember tomorrow is just for you---
START OVER.

To start again means a victory's been won
And starting over again means a race well run
And starting over again proves it can be done
So don't just sit there---
START OVER

*******************************

I saw the "NECKLACE (CHAIN) GAME" somewhere and I liked it.

I thought you might like it too.

You can make your own beautiful necklace (or a chain) by being OP (On Plan), using the emoticons provided here on SP.

*** You can also play this game for one week at a time (or month...etc...) and build a new necklace every week if you wish (or a month...etc...)

*** Please feel free to make adjustments and changes to the "NECLACE GAME" as you wish.

Congratulations on being On Plan, and if not, congratulations on starting over!

NOTE!
Please read Rule # 3 below. It's an excellent motivating rule to stick to your Necklace game, which means: sticking with your weight-loss journey.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE GAME

1. For every day you are ON PLAN (OP) you put in your necklace (chain ) the letter D ( for a DAY). So, if you are OP for 4 days in a row, your necklace looks like that: D - D - D - D

It's nicer to use the "EMOTICONS"

2. Once you are OP for 7 days, you change it to W ( For a week) .
Example: If I'm OP for 19 days, my necklace ( or chain) looks like that: W - W - D - D - D - D - D

If you prefer to wear a longer necklace, you can WEAR it this way too:( instead of a W for a week, put 7 "D"'S, like this: D - D - D - D - D - D - D-

3. If you are FULL MONTH OP, It becomes M ( For a MONTH). So, if you are OP 49 days in a row, ( on a 31 days a month),your necklace will look like that: M - W - W - D - D - D - D

RULES OF THE GAME .

1. It's a challenge for yourself , NOT A COMPETITION WITH OTHERS.

2. The first day you BREAK the necklace (chain), you start playing the game all over again , (only if you have used already all of your extra 3500 calories for the month : See Rule # 3), and build your necklace ( chain ) once more from the beginning.

3. RULE # 3 IS VERY IMPORTANT .
PLEASE READ IT !
IT IS A GOOD RULE TO HELP YOU STICK TO THE NECKLACE- GAME .
In order to learn NOT to be perfect, and in order To BE realistic,( we will always have days we are not OP) , YOU MAY HAVE ( if you choose to) UP TO 3500 EXTRA CALORIES each MONTH IN ADDITION TO YOUR regular diet.
You can still CONTINUE to built your necklace(chain)!

The idea here is that the extra 3500 calories amount only to 1 pound gain in one month period, while an average of 2-4 pounds loss per month is VERY reasonable with being OP.
You will still be AHEAD OF THE GAME at the end of each month if you need to add up to extra 3500 calories in a month, providing you are otherwise OP.

The second idea is that once you've built a large chain,( many days OP), you want to keep going building the chain,( rather than break it and start all the way from the beginning again), and rule # 3 allows you to do that , WHILE YOU CONTINUE TO LOSE WEIGHT.
4. Keep your own records.
THAT INCLUDES ALSO KEEPING RECORDS OF THE OPTION TO USE UP TO 3500 calories EACH MONTH. ( when we go off plan).
5. Post your NECKLACE (chain) every day.

I hope you enjoy the game.

Teresa
