Mimi, Good for you! You continue to add challenge to your workout! Walking outside adds the benefits of vitamin D and the mood enhancing effects of the sun in additon to the activity. It is always good to change things up and adding new things is one way to do it. Just as you have intensified your water workouts you will be doing the same with other things. I have many similiar DVD's similiar to the FIRM. I use them as I follow the bootcamp format, because my preference is cardio. I challenge myself to work other areas. In fact, I am currently working on the 5k training plan with Spark. Consistency is an excellent motto. I am often looking for mantras for my meditations. This is a good one for one of my focused breathing practices. Keep Challenging yourself.

Today I went to deep water exercise class. Wonderful!!!
I'll add walking outside and I also have many tapes of the "FIRM" with weights (have you heard about it? ) Their videos are very challenging and I'm ready for more challenge.
Good luck everyone. As long as we MOVE and eat healthy, we're doing a great job!

All the best to you with teaching Water Aerobics. This is wonderful. The ladies will really benefit from the class and all your teaching. I am sure you will do a fantastic job.
I am taking a class on April 1, at my Rec Center and looking forward to it. I can hardly wait. My class will be anywhere from 5:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. and we arrive and spend 1 hour or longer, with aerobics and snacks too.
hugs, Ei

I am confident you will put together a great program! It is insightful that you consider that you will have many different levels in your classes. I, too, thought the music added a great deal. Our instructors were versatile enough that if what they chose wasn't within the capability of an individual or some would like more challenge they would taylor the activity to that level. They had the saying that "as long as you were moving" you were working. My classes lasted an hour. I would think that it would be feasible depending on your arrangements to make them anywhere between 30-60 minutes. This is a challenge I hope you enjoy.

Thanks to both of you for your support, I plan on doing a lot of research for my class. I have never done any kind of water aerobics, I know some women from church that do them at the YMCA and they will also help with my program. Thank you both for your help, the article will be very helpful as well. I like the idea of adding music to the exercise .. I know it sure helps me when I walk and it make sence to add it to water aerobics to. Also the resistance band are a great idea. I am looking forward to getting started. I have to be able to make the exercise for several different age groups, so adding different size weights and resistance to the exercise would be great. I may have some women that hardly ever exercise and then women that exercise everyday, so I have to be able to incorporate ways to get a good workout for all.
How long does a class usually last??

http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness_articles.asp?id=74 Cheryl, I read your message to Mimi, and it brought back memories of my own water aerobics classes. My instructors had formalized training, and there are many variations, and depending on resources ages etc. you can do. I am currently using a resistance, or (ski belt) and working my legs and core. Jogging, walking, etc. I have also walked on resistance bands, and many other thing as Mimi indicates. It is my understanding that what can be done on land can be done in the water. I am sending you the Spark Article on water exercise, and perhaphs it will help provide some direction. I found some interesting points. Hope it helps some. Have a Wonderful Day!

I know so many water exercises but it is hard to explain them in writing. Much easier if you could see it. I'm sure you'll be a great teacher. How are you going to learn many water exercises so you can teach it? Do you know some exercises already? We use noodles, bottles filled with water for weights, and light weights under water. We run in place at moderate speed, then very, very fast, and change every 30 seconds, jumping jacks, we have a "river" and we we go against the current, also doing side steps, walk backwards, weight for triceps and biceps...and so much more. We get the heart beat to the highest for each individual.
Have fun doing it. Our teacher brings different music dvd's each class, and put in on high volume and we exercise to that music. The music helps.
Can you tell that I love these classes?
have a good night

Cheryl, You have had a very active day! on increasing your bone density. This is one of the reasons remaining active is so important to health. Particularly for women. It is not often mentioned. For this important reminder.

That is a great deal of activity! Working in the water provides more resistance and burns more calories without the effort.

Mimi, Each indicidual has their own ideal workout time. Sometimes circumstances make it necessary to go to plan B. That is why the wording. as you so astutely noted was used. Enjoy your activity.

I did 45 minuets of water exercise, weights under water and lap swimming.
Tomorrow I'll first do the eleptical machine and then go to the pool.

Leslie Sansone provides a great workout! Using her dvd's burn many calories and provide an alternative when it is not feasible to get out. Choosing your level, and the addition of strength training make it very versatile activity.
