Cheryl,
You have been blessed by being a part of such a wonderful experience which touched so many people's life in a positive way.
What a joy to be able to bring such happiness to the children.
I can't help but think of the parable of the five loaves of bread and three fishes.
It is my belief that we are watched over by a loving
being whatever an individual's belief system may be.
You continue to bring joy to so many.
Enjoy your day! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Tonight the gifts from the angel tree were given out. Our Pastor ask me to give out the gifts, I was very concerned and afraid when I saw our church filled with children this evening, for the childrens Christmas program. I said a prayer and ask God to make it right for his children. When it was time for the gifts to be handed out, every child in our church got a gift. Not just the ones in the play, but every child that had come to see the program got a gift.
It's was an amazing experience of ..trust and faith

It is often said, and I agree, that "it is better to give than to receive". To give with no expectations and an open heart results in so much more than ever conceived. It appears you are one of those rare individuals who do not always think of self first. Your community is blessed by your example. Your selfless acts inspire others, and the flame spreads.
Nurturing our spirits is, I believe, essential to health-although sadly neglected. emoticon emoticon emoticon

The Challenge of the week ..I love it

Embracing your Spirit

Doing things for other people, not just at Christmas time but all year..makes my day.
1. I visit my neighbors this time of year, with gifts of fresh baked breads and cookies. It means so much to be able to laugh and visit with them.
2. Going to church is something I enjoy so much, I teach a Sunday School Class for 1st , 2nd, and 3rd graders..it's usually a small class of 6 or 7 children.
I put up an angel tree in our church with names of every child from our church, about 15 names. The members loved the idea to help out our own children this year. The children will all get a gift form a member of our church this coming Wednesday evening, our annual Childrens Christmas Play ..a special event with snacks afterward, fellowship is wonderful.
3. Our church joins together with another church for Christmas and Easter Cantata's , last evening was our Christmas Cantata..I enjoy singing so much, I have helped with the choir for several years. It was a very special performance.
4. Today a friend, he's like my son, but not related . called me to come help him today , he had car trouble and he couldn't get it stared. I was able to get it started for him within 10 minutes of my arrival, he had sit in the cold for over an hour trying to get it started, I love it when I am able to do for my friends and family when the call.

I enjoy doing things for other people.

Thank you for the Challenge

Cheryl,
I am glad that Mimi is helping you so much. It is helpful to have the support of one who knows the specifics of the diet so well. I always think of her as the "go to it person" when it comes to the details.
It is good to know that you are learning what works for you, and becoming more confident in your choices.
Happy and Healthy Holidays!

This afternoon I am planning to complete the next challenge for the Healthy Habits Holidays. It looks as though individuals are doing a great job of incorporating healthy ideas. So exciting to see how they are handling things.
Keep up the good work, and the upcoming year will be off to a positive start.

Cheryl,
It appears you were successful with using your plan of filling up on fruits and vegetables in addition to the water. It always helps to plan ahead, but having the determination to stick with it is admirable.
I am glad you are feeling better, and hope the migraine issue is resolving.

Mimi,

I took your advice and ate really well before I went to the party , filled up on veggies and drank lots of water while I was walking around ..avoiding the desserts.. was a challenge, they alway call my name, I filled my plate with veggies and fruit from the trays I took with me. I stuck to my plan and brought the desserts home with me when they were offered..
So glad to get the good advice before I went..worked really great for me..

Thank you for the great advice

That is a great idea to bring vegies.
Here are couple more ideas that may help(from my experience):
1. I walk the whole time with a glass of water and I fill it again and again.
2. About 30 minutes before I go, I always eat low points filling food as 3 points chili, or lentil soup that gets me very full.
That gives me CONTROL on my choices at the party.
3. My 3rd rule (for myself) is that for dessert I only eat fruits, but when I come home, I always have a wonderful weight watchers dessert ready to eat, 3-4 points and I'm happy with my dessert. I just eat it a little later.
4. I fill my plate with 3/4 vegetables. I'm watching the carbs (even the good ones), because I had good carbs at home just before leaving.
5. I'm for the party to have a good time and enjoy. The food is secondary.

I hope it helps

Staying at maintenance means I'm making progress.
This weekend we're going to two places with lots of foods.
I'll make sure I'm not going hungry, and I'll choose POWER foods.

I like the words "POWER FOODS" much more than "FILLING FOODS".

Life is really a mixed bag. The road most certainly isn't straight. No matter the outcome on your run (I am looking forward to the blog) is that you did it! That is so much more than I can say about how far I would go. emoticon
I am sorry to hear about the migraines, and hope the new doctor will be of help. I have been lucky to find one that understands my medication sensitivity.
You, may, unfortunately be one of those triggered by stress. Hope that it all works out soon.
Mimi has been keeping tabs on weight watcher's new plan. They have always been one of the forerunners in dietary guidelines. My guess is you can find more such useful information from them too. Meanwhile, I believe she will share the knowledge as it becomes available.
emoticon Dusting off that gazelle sounds like a good idea. It amazed me, after initially hating the stationary bike, as I worked more with it I could withstand about 5 miles at a time. Every bit helps I say.
Great job maintaining through the Thanksgiving holidays!

My migraines are not treated with medication that I can take when I feel one coming on..I have tried those in the past, they worked for a while and then quit. I take a medication that is suppose to prevent them from coming on..but the medication side effects ..effect my judgement ..I hate the feeling of being out of control of myself. I was taking 4 tablet and I slacked off to try to regain my composure and when I got to 1 pill the migraines started back..my Dr said I had to take at least 3 a day to prevent them from coming on. My friends say I need a second opinion so I have that appointment in Jan..sad part is when I take the med it works.

My 10 K was not pretty..I trot a while and walk a while, I finished it ..please read my blog ..it explains the drama of it all.

I also made it through Thanksgiving with out a gain, my choices were not as good as they should have been ..Mimi has made some suggestion on a new plan to incorporate more veggies and proteins, less dried fruit, so I hope to get to work on that today and stay focused. I threw out all left overs except the turkey.
I dusted off my old gazell and went to work with it.

Mimi,
Sounds as though you did well sticking to your routine this Thanksgiving. I think it is a good idea to send the tempting leftovers home with the guests. It is becoming a practice of mine lately, that if it isn't worth keeping for whatever reason, get rid of it in some way. Usually, I try sharing with others, but more has gone in the trash than I would like. But, what good is it to be the trashcan. emoticon

I'm also glad that your migraines are over.
As Teresa said, I also have a friend that when she feels it's coming, she takes her medicine to prevent it and it works for her.
Let us know how was your 10 K. Did you run or walked the 10 K? Either one, it's a big achievement. (I assume you ran it because your walks are many miles).
Seeing your doctor is also a good thing.

Thanksgiving went well for me. We had about 12 cakes and pies but I ate only 1/2 a cake (3 points) of the crustless pumpkin pie. The leftovers of the cakes went home with the guests.
My plate had 2/3 full with healthy salad, so only 1/3 of the plate was avialable for all the other foods. That was a great strategy for me.

Once again, my computer has a mind of its own (or I have completely lost mine. I responded earlier, but I fail to see it. If it appears twice, please accept my apologies.
I am so glad you are finally feeling better. It takes a long time for the aftermath of migraines to pass. I am glad you are taking steps to help resolve them. I am right there with you on the medication issue as I don't tolerate anything.
I had a friend tell me that sometimes there are red flags before a migraine becomes full blown. It may be vertigo, halos, changes in body temperature etc.
What works for them is to treat it as you and your physician feel best before it becomes full-blown.
You probably are well aware of this, but I just thought I would pass it on.
When you feel better and if you would like to join us in the challenge feel free to jump in at any time.
It is an open challenge designed to help us maintain our healthy habits throughout all of the Holidays leading to the New Year.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I am so glad to learn that you are no longer suffering so with migraine. I am also glad to learn you are having them checked. I understand about your concerns about medication as I do not tolerate it very well at all. I will share with you something you probably know, which a friend told me about migraines. Sometimes you will have little warnings beforehand, perhaps hours, or sometimes days as they begin to escalate. Halos, vertigo, change in body temperature etc. The very moment one of your red flags is waved take the preventitive methods determined by you and your doctor-if medication don't wait.
I hope they will resolve soon.
If you would like to join our challenge it is open, and anytime you feel ready simply jump right in!
Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving. emoticon

Finally made it through a few days without pain.
Those migraines are the worst, I get them on the right side of my head, and it settles in my ear.
I have kept a diary of my migraines, it's not food that triggers them, I've had them for 12yrs..took a blow to the head, blunt forced trauma, long story. I am going to see a new Doc in Jan., with the medication, side effects are a major concern for me.

Tomorrow ..Lord's will , my first 10 K .. Wish me luck.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving

So far also good.
My children are here and we have FUN. I'm trying to eat as healthy as I can.
I know I'll do well on Thanksgiving meal becouse I WANT to!
I like the crustless pumpkin pie, so I have control on all the other foods with portion control.
An I probably will eat most or all of the crustless pumpkin pie (6 points the whole pie!) and enjoy it with decuf coffe.

I'm looking forward to the new WW plan. I may go On Sunday, November 28 and hear it.

I must really be losing it. I forget about posting on my own challenge. Today has been a day of upsets.

Tomorrow will be better.

LOOSINGIT,
I am sorry you have been suffering from migraines. I have several individuals close to me who have them, and the pain is excruciating. It takes a bit of time to get through the effects. Good for you making it through the dinner. I am watching myself carefully to see that when I begin to feel better I don't go overboard with eating.
Just something to think about if you haven't already.
Have you ever began notes when a migraine is coming on, such as events, or food triggers? I know my other half can't eat chocolate.
Take your time, and heal, working yourself back into the routine of things gradually.
I wish you the best, and hope you are yourself soon. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I know what you mean..I have not been able to get started like i wanted to this week either, not because I didn't want to.. it's because I have been suffering with a migraine for 3 days, I attended a dinner last evening at church and I stayed on track with my food choices, actually I stayed under..
As soon as I get back on my feet so to speak..I'm climbing right back on board and looking forward to the challenge.

My current progress is not as I would wish it to be. I still am not quite up to speed. I was planning to go to the gym this morning, but my body was in conflict with my mind. When I eat, I try to eat the healthiest I am able, but still not quite to my standards. One day at a time and this will pass.
On the positive side, I am not eating a lot of extra things at this point(wait until I feel better). I will just need to really focus on the quality.
Best wishes to all!

Teresa
