We finally got some rain from Hanna; we need more but I'm grateful for what we got. Soon the weather will be so changeable; short pants and a shirt seem fine one minute, then it's inside to change into something warmer the next.
There are certain foods, certain crops that still remain quite seasonable. While we may eat strawberries all year and oranges are no longer stuffed in stockings as a rare holiday treat, some special things remain sacred to the fall: pumpkins, chestnuts and local apples.

Fall Fruit Salad
This recipe serves: 4
2 Bosc pears
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1 cup green grapes
zest of 1/2 lemon
2 tablespoons white grape juice
1. Core and slice the apples and pears, sprinkling them with lemon juice so they do not discolor.
2. Add the grapes and lemon zest, and sprinkle with the grape juice.
Serving Size: about 1 cup
