I LOVE turnip, but I have to get my MIL to teach me how to cook it. Otherwise I only get it at Thanksgiving. No one else here will eat it, but me, but that's not stopping me. I WILL HAVE SOME THIS FALL!

Yes, about Nov-Dec, we can only get a red navel orange that is delicious, Bill can't wait for them to come in at a farmers market about a hr away, this farmers market is close to the Baptist rest home his mother resides in now.
I've got to finish eating my frozen collards so I can get some more. My freezor is FULL, fresh sheaphead- flounder-spade- & crappy type fish, peas, beans, collards, turnip greens, corn.
When Bill old job was about 2 1/2 hrs away it was close to peaches near Gaffney, S.C. Has anyone seen the Big Peach Water Tower on that interstate hwy? If you have ...you are in peach country.

Barb: Produce may no longer be seasonal, but the prices sure are. We'll notice the price for good apples come down soon when the new crop is harvested, and lower price higher quality citrus will follow. Just another way to watch the seasons go by.

Take a big bite into fall's flavorful fruits and veggies

We finally got some rain from Hanna; we need more but I'm grateful for what we got. Soon the weather will be so changeable; short pants and a shirt seem fine one minute, then it's inside to change into something warmer the next.

There are certain foods, certain crops that still remain quite seasonable. While we may eat strawberries all year and oranges are no longer stuffed in stockings as a rare holiday treat, some special things remain sacred to the fall: pumpkins, chestnuts and local apples.
