Hi all, I have been with SP since last May and have lost about 25 Lbs so far. I belong to several teams on SP, but I am a co leader of the Wii Fit Plus Team in here and I run a monthly exercise challenge for that team. Any one and everyone that wants some support and encouragement feel free to friend me in here. We can chat in this thread in here, or in personal msgs in here. I am also on MyFitnessPal: another free site like this one, plus I am on several weight loss and fitness groups on Facebook too. I started at 170 lbs and now I am down to 144.8 lbs, and going to get down to 130 or so lbs. I am turning 54 this month, I live in Escondido, Ca. I started to eat more whole foods last May and less processed and fast foods. I just started the DASH diet this Monday per my drs office. I also just got my high blood pressure medicine cut in half again since starting this, so now I am only on 1/4th of a pill and I am working to get off of that last 5 mgs of it too. I have already worked myself off of all my allergy medicines, and almost all my asthma medicine too. I just have an emergency inhaler for the asthma now, instead of taking a pill twice a day for asthma and one a day for allergies, and several inhalers for both.

Hello:

I need a buddy too! I am losing very slowly, 6 pounds so far. Have to be honest though, not always 100%. I do track at 100%, so The Spark is always on my mind. I am still trying to figure things out on my Spark page, how to upload a picture, My Birthday Sunday, and I am looking forward to it, because I have a plan!

Have a Good Weekend!

I'm in. Accountability is what its all about. We should all check in and see how we doing . I've been stuck a month. My excuse is the terrible winter... we have to stop making excuses, and go for the gusto. Warmer weather is just around the corner. We can do. emoticon

Also looking for support. I have lost weight many times on my own and have done well with my own system. Many years ago I checked out SP, but didn't get involved in the system.
Well...2 1/2 years ago, my husband died. And my life has spiralled out of control in the health areas of sleep, exercise and diet/weight. I have added so many bad habits and not kept up the good ones. I have gained back all the weight I lost and gone over my earlier highest weight.
Today I thought maybe if I didn't have to plan my meals, have a set out for me diet plan...That would help. I spent the am looking at diet plans and then remembered SP.
I am ready to use the site the way it's intended.
Some of my special challenges include: being alone, not finding all the suggested ingredients or foods because I live in Israel, making substitutions in many meals because I keep kosher, and serving and eating traditional Shabbos meals (with guests) every week...Friday night and twice on Saturdays.
I want to get back to regular sleep, healthy eating, regular exercise, at least walking every morning, and to lose 35 pounds.
Tomorrow I start first thing in the am.
Kasz

Being part of this team makes us all your weight loss buddies. I think we are here because we need the support from one another. Keeping each other motivated will help us reach our goals. It does seem more difficult to lose weight in my 50's.
Thank you for your support. I am here to support you too.

Good morning!! If anyone needs an "accountability coach," I'm in.

I started SP last April, did well except for a slow weight loss and have learned a few things that may help. Don't be afraid to "switch it up" including carb cycling (Chris Powell is great).

Also, I just found out about "food combining" for digestive issues where you don't eat carbs and proteins together. At first I thought it sounded a little farfetched, but the idea is that enzymes in your stomach (either acidic for proteins or alkaline for carbs) work better to digest your food if those foods are eaten separately. All I can tell you is that it works in as little as four days, and I can definitely tell the difference and lost 5 pounds immediately.

Being a little older sometimes makes a difference with weight loss, tendency to get heavier around the mid-section, metabolism, etc. Information and a little research can help.

Again, even though it's taken a while, I've lost almost 20 pounds, so I can't complain. (Yes, people tend to gain weight after they get married -- I started out as a size 4, no more! But 140 or 135 is beginning to sound pretty good!)

The very best to everyone!!

I also am a Spark returnee. Started it 2 years ago and lost 25 lbs in 4 months, went on a week trip and got out of the habit of coming here, and a few months later I had gained it all back. One thing that really help me was a buddy I met here and we challenged each other, gave support when we blew it, and just gave encouragement, it does help. We still do write to each other but more on a personal basis. I need a new buddy also.

Good morning everyone! I guess I am looking for a buddy/motivation. I rejoined Spark, but can not seem to find the motivation to stick with it. I hate the fact that my clothes are tight, and refuse to buy a bigger size, but just need a push (or shove) to get started. How helpful is the phone app? I wouldn't mind a buddy to be accountable to. Thanks everyone

I have been on SP since Jan1 when I discovered the site. Doing great on exercise, struggling with the food portion, nights the hardest as the family is home and they are eating snacks. I did fantastic for a month lost 5 pounds then went out of town for a week and gained 5 pounds back! Very discouraging. I'm starting again, trying to stay positive, and focused. It is so hard to lose a pound and so easy to put one on.

I'd love some accountability friends on SP. I'm not on a diet, I've changed my lifestyle. I'm getting healthier and stronger each day. Would like to find others doing the same. I'm a walker and started kettlebells a month ago.

After months of trying to get on board, I've finally done it. Woke up one day after reading posts on SP and got the motivation I needed. I've managed to lose 9.5 pounds in the last few weeks and even though I have a ways to go, I feel so much better. I have to admit that SP is what's keeping me strong. I'm one who feeds off of other peoples' success. By tracking my food, I was shocked to see how much I could eat when eating the right foods. I still have a day here or there where I'm willing to give up a whole days worth of calories and go for pizza, but at least now I'm eating a healthier version. Exercise seems to be where I'm having the problem. My mind is willing to walk mountains yet my body is a bit lazy these days. I did get busy today and enjoyed some XBox Dancing with my granddaughter. Hard to believe I danced for hours every weekend as a teenager. I had to sit out every other dance today, but I did beat her score on one dance. I celebrated the third anniversary of my 20th birthday a year ago. We haven't had much snow here in Illinois, but I did find ice on my windows this a.m. Good luck to all of you. I'd love to travel this journey with you.

Good Morning, how is everyone this morning? It is 23 degrees in Louisville this morning. I am at work and am the only one here so far. I get here at 7:30 am. I have starting using my Jack Lalane juice machine again. There is something about fresh fruit and veggie juice that makes you feel really good. I am getting my fruits and vegetables in for the day and feel absolutely awesome.

Workouts are going well. I workout in the evening because I just seem to be able to do that more consistently than in the morning. I spend from 6 pm to around 7:30 pm in my exercise room, that is my time and I love it. Weekends are a little different, I seem to workout before noon on the weekends. Anyway, I hope all is good. Good Luck to everyone. Sandy

Hi . Where are you Maggie? How's it going? I went to aerobics 3xs but made blueberry crisp for company who didn't come because of our snowstorm. Not a good plan for weight loss. Dang. The good news is this very cold weather makes you feel like soup. Onward.

Go Maggie!! WooWoo

p.s. the other little side benefit of very cold weather is that the dog does his business really fast.

Can I jump in here too? Just started in SP and am still finding my way around. I've had some health issues that I'm just getting over and have put on some weight and been pretty sedentary for about two years. Can't take it. Must take action. I just started Jazzersize which is a hoot because I am so uncoordinated. I figure I'm in the class for entertainment.
But when it comes to food it's a battle. My weight keeps creeping up. Whenever I tell myself I'm going to lose I put a little more on. If anyone has any ideas about that I'm open.
I am looking for new habits to form, i.e. I now put milk in my coffee instead of sugar. Im working on eating 4 fruits and veg a day. Fruit is very easy. I don't really feel a kinship with vegetables. Other than boiling, steaming, and throwing potatoes in with a roast veggies and I pretty much keep my distance. A salad is something someone eats out of guilt before the real food comes. I definitely have some food issues here.
I think I need to adjust how I think about vegetables to really kick this weight. Can anyone help?
help?

I loved reading the posts. We had the most beautiful snowfall here today (northwestern PA). It looked like a Christmas card. Finally getting about a foot of snow.

Maggie, what are you doing to support epilepsy awareness? I have epilepsy and it's one of the most misunderstood diseases ever. Along with encouraging you in your own weight loss, how can I support you in your involvement in raising epilepsy awareness?

The thermometer on our deck says 18 degrees this morning, blue sky, sunny. Yes, you'd think we'd have snow, but there's only a slight dusting on the ground. We've hardly had any this year. I, too, love snow, but our roads get pretty treacherous. We live near the beach, and our roads are winding and hilly, so we often can't get out or in unless the plow or salt truck has been here early. I'm a retired elementary and middle school language arts teacher, an "extremely young 67" (to be 68 in three weeks). Hey, it's only a number, right? Yesterday was my first day on SP, and I lost .6 pounds. Very tired today, but will again eat well and do my exercise.
Good that we're both motivated. Let's make a pact. NO SWEETS today. I'll let you know how I do.

I support epilepsy awareness and research.

Good Morning, Sweets tend to be my weakness also. I work at a university and donuts seem to be lurking in the kitchen 3 to 4 days a week. I am on a gluten free diet due to Crohn's disease so donuts are a definite no, no. I have found Popcorn Indiana which is gluten free and comes in many different flavors is awesome and satisfies the sweet tooth. Also, cuties, the little oranges, they are great to. Good luck. Sandy

Looking forward to hear from you and learn what you are doing. I am a real estate broker (semi-retired). It is in the 20's (temp) tonight which I love and everybody here hates. I've been wanting snow so bad. I absolutely love inclement weather. But.......I bet you've had your fill of that.

Hey, Mary Alice, I appreciate it. As I post here I'm sure I'll have my ups and downs. When the downs show their nasty little faces I'd like it if you (and Sandy, who also agreed to help me out -- thanks again, Sandy) would get in MY face. Be tough. I don't want to make progress and then have it all go down the drain. So far so good today. For supper I'm planning loaded baked potatoes (with I Can't Believe it's Not Butter, fat-free sour cream, and broccoli with cheese), salad with low-fat raspberry vinegarette dressing, and cut fruit.

Great, Sandy, thank you so much. I tend to get tempted by sweets too often, but now that I've made my decision to do this, I'm determined to change my ways. I'm about to have Greek yogurt, a banana, and some orange juice for breakfast. I'm not going to go overboard on counting every little calorie, but rather exercise more. Thanks again.

Hi Maggie, I would be glad to work with you. My name is Sandy.

If death meant just leaving the stage long enough to change costume and come back as a new character...Would you slow down? Or speed up?

I would like someone I can check in with regularly. I just began my journey this morning. My goal is to lose 33 pounds. I weighed this morning to find a nice even number, although too high, so am hoping to lose a couple pounds a week, walk, ride my recumbent bike, and add strength training a little later.
Anyone? I will be glad to do the same for you.
