I feel your pain. Sugar and night time snacking has been my downfall as well. If you can do it so can I, so I'm counting on you to DO IT. emoticon

My NSV has been coming back to SPARK. I also ordered, have received the SPAT and have been wearing it ever since. If nothing other than that, it certainly makes me aware that I must get walking more............. emoticon

I avoided fall today as I came into the doctors office. My cane hit a wet patch on the floor and I came so close to falling but I somehow found my balance through sheer fear of breaking my leg again. I have osteoporosis. I give credit for this small miracle to the ab strength training exercises I have been doing for about two weeks. I believe that strength training is a good investment for my old age and maybe it will help me burn fat in the meantime. I will be 60 in December. emoticon

Two things to share:
1. I did a SP workout video for the first time!! (Joined the "jump-start your fitness" challenge). Not easy, and I just did the walking instead of some of the more intensive moves - but I completed it!
2. I chose fruit over other desserts at the meal in the restaurant with my daughters yesterday! And had broccoli instead of pasta at dinner at home!

Today is day 30 on this site. I lost 40 pounds before starting here, and have lost 4 more in the last 30 days. However, the most important improvement I have made in 30 days is lowering my blood pressure from a dangerous level 30 days ago (even on meds) to a just slightly high level today. I still need to work on it, but now I feel I can do it. Hopefully in another 30 days, I will have more good results to report.

NO Sugar for today. Nighttime is my worst challenge. I am still struggling with being hungry at night, but am making healthier choices and coming down off this bad habit. My body has been screaming......where is my crunchies and sugar!! It has nothing to do with hunger. Retraining is not easy.

Colibri1 - Excellent! I'm glad you felt comfortable, that would have been a difficult situation for anyone, especially with future in-laws! You put it really well too, everyone understands wanting to look their best for a daughter's wedding! Perfect! emoticon

My small victory was yesterday at dinner.
We were invited at our future in-laws (wow, only three weeks left until our daughter's wedding!!!emoticon)
Anyway, as to the meal itself - most of the things served where not on my food plan (fried, or too fat, or too processed...). In the past, I would feel too uncomfortable to refuse them, afraid of hurting the hostess's feelings... now, I just calmly told her, that it all looks very good, but I'd rather not sample these foods, if I want to look at my best for the wedding :-)
She was not hurt, I didn't feel deprived, and my dinner consisted of some lettuce salad, brown rice and a chicken thigh - I removed the skin, without feeling somebody could be hurt by that!

Mennoly,
That is good to know about balance improving. I have trouble with that, too, and I know it's important to improve our balance as we get older.
Thanks for sharing that interesting NSV.

You are doing great! I just thought of a new nonscale victory. My sense of balance has improved to the point that I can put on a pair of shorts while standing. I used to have a very poor ability to balance on one leg.

This is great, I was just thinking about making a list for myself of all the little victories I have experienced, this is the perfect place! I joined Spark on July 3 but was working on weight loss and getting fit a few weeks before that.

Besides the loss of weight there are many changes I've been noticing.
*clothes fitting looser, bathing suit included
*sleeping better each night I think due to the increased activity during the day
*husband hasn't had a bout of acid reflux in over 5 weeks (that's actually HUGE for him) due to our commitment to not eat out and eating much healthier foods and in smaller portions.
*skin and hair in much better shape
*mentally feeling in control of my food intake, not feeling deprived at all
*general feeling of well being and confidence

It's interesting that you mentioned that. I haven't noticed that my skin feels any different, but I did notice that the skin on my face looks clearer, the color is better. And, in general, I don't look so worn out anymore.

Colibri,
I did the 5K walking plan. I wouldn't even attempt to run. I doubt my joints could handle it.

My husband and I did most of our walking at a nearby nature center. They have paths back in the woods where it's cooler. Plus walking on the natural materials was a lot easier on my feet than the asphalt in our neighborhood.

But with the heat and humidity of the summer, I've been doing some of my exercise indoors. I put on my favorite CDs and just dance. I'm sure it's not pretty, but it is fun.

This is a slightly odd one but my skin feels fantastic. It is softer and smoother. I imagine because of the good diet and the water.

Carol, I signed up for the plan in early spring, just before my thyroid started acting up... and then abandoned it in the 2nd week, I thinkemoticon
Now, I'm slowly working towards the 5K again... I should probably re-commit to the plan.

Congratulations on your trophy! This is great!

My clothes are fitting better and I have learned I need to eat more protein. I have also learned that the "intense" walking works well for me. It did until I sprained my knee. Hoping to get back to it soon.

That's great that you're walking again. You're smart, too, to ease yourself into it.

I noticed, too, that you signed up for SP's 5K plan. I just completed my 5K last week and got my trophy. It felt good to reach that goal.

I am beginning to feel a lot more flexible and less achy since I have become consistent with doing my cardio and stretching. I have even been able to add some of the challenge moves on the video. Since I am not in love with exercise yet this has been great for me.

Colibri,
I resisted using the nutrition tracker in the beginning, but it's now one of the tools that's contributing to my success. I like that you can make groupings of your foods, and then it's so easy to just plug in a favorite later on.

Plus, instead of just focusing on calories, the tracker makes me more aware of the breakdown of my overall day - for instance, I discovered I was continually low on protein.

I'm so glad you're deciding to use it. And I know, from reading your blog, that the day's food you planned fell within the nutrition recommendations. That's a double victory!

And a waistline! WooHoo!

Linda,
It's great that your BP is normal. That will make such a big difference in your health and your life.

That added energy impacts so many things. Interesting, too, how our mood improves when we're taking care of our bodies.

My pants are looser, too. I had to put safety pins at the waist to keep them from falling down.

It's a great feeling, isn't it?

Carol, it is really funny that you should create this topic today! I was going to weigh this morning but forgot and then didn't want to weigh after eating so I said "to heck with it" - figured I just do it tomorrow or the next day. Well, I got dressed and went to the grocery store and I had the strangest feeling as I was walking - I felt thinner, my clothes fit looser, I had spring in my step (which is no small feat for me with my bum hip) I am actually seeing a waistline again emoticon So, I guess that was my NSV and it felt good emoticon

So many of us struggle to get that scale to move and need to remind ourselves that we're making lots of smart changes that will make us healthier even if the scale doesn't always reflect our efforts.

So take a minute and tell us about one of your non-scale victories (NSV). Are your clothes looser? Do you sleep better? Do you have more energy?
Whatever positive change you've noticed, we want to hear about it.

My most recent NSV was last night. I looked down and, instead of seeing my belly, I saw my feet! What a great view!
