I'd pretty much resigned myself to being "heavy"....a nice euphemism that made it easy to forget a BMI in the "obese" range. I had NO motivation to lose weight. But when the belly was noticeably in the way, sleep apnea was developing, and plantar faciaitis made walking and driving painful, I realized there are more consequences to obesity than needing to buy larger clothes every few months.
If I'd not found SparkPeople it's likely I'd still be stuck in the old habits of gluttony (which is NOT an exaggeration) and inactivity. I needed something different from all the other strategies I've used for weight management. I needed a strategy that is fun, compelling, and full of variety.
Even more, I needed some way to hold myself accountable.
This site was what I found, and it's EXACTLY what I need. I enjoy making my numbers match those recommended. Learning is an ever-present opportunity. And....it all works! I'm sugar-abstinent, losing weight, and exercising daily.
