Totally need a weight loss buddy, heck I need a weight loss army to keep me accountable! I'm in! I am losing 50 pounds (I could say I am "trying to lose" 50 pounds but I want to do not try). I remember my mother telling me when I was in my teens about how much harder it is to lose weight when you get older. Did I listen? Of course not, it was my mother. I'm learning now thought!

My focus this week has been to increase my activity because I have a desk job so am very sedentary. Everyday this week after a quick lunch a coworker and I have taken a walk. My daughter and son have agreed to be my walking buddy this weekend. I think because of my hypothyroidism I need to increase my activity even more in order to see weight loss. So I'm focusing on the feeling...feeling better and then getting rid of some weight.

It is a beautiful day. Going to walk the dog then get ready for work night shift. I started a journal and keeping track of what I am eating. I am not going to weigh but once a week. Fridays are my weigh in.

I joined several months ago but did not lose much weight until this October when I went to health fair and had high glucose reading with high blood pressure on high number. I was diagnosed with graves or hyper thyroid in Jan but got sidetracked by husband's heart surgery and after the health fair I got retested in October. I asked for the test both times since I had gained weight on depression meds trial at dr's advice. Good thing I read women's health magazines to ask for the tests. So now I am on a diabetic diet and on meds for Graves.

I would love to have some weight loss buddies.

Does your pain go down your legs too?
i take pain pills and creams but nothing
helps.:( i want to lose between 15-20lbs.

i want to start walking again for exercise but i found out i
have osteo artheridis in my hip and legs and it hurts to walk.:(

I'm a loner, a lover of solitude, by nature. I've done the weight yo-yo solo all my life. Accountability to someone, or having a buddy, wasn't necessary. That's not the case anymore.

Visiting this site multiple times every day is keeping me accountable. It's just as important to me as what I eat and how much I exercise. Right now ALL of you are my buddies! I don't want to...and can't...do this alone anymore.

Anyone know the OA slogan that ends with "...together we can do what we could never do alone"?

@BELOSING In my opinion you can't approach losing weight at any age by thinking about going on a diet. Diets don't work because they are short term deprivations which are overturned when you go off the diet. The way to lose weight is to make incremental changes in your habits that slowly lead to dropping weight. The habit changes become ingrained and you live with them for the rest of your life. They are not onerous and you do not feel deprived because you do not eliminate any food totally you monitor your consumption of calorie dense foods so that they fit into your nutritional allowance.

Since I have been over 50 it seems that I have to work harder to lose weight. Does anyone else find that?

I am trying to set weekly tasks to help me reach my goal. Since this is a long weekend, I will do two workouts for each day that I don't have to go to work.

Does anyone else have extra diet plans this weekend?

Hi,
I am new too. Like you I am tired of not fitting in my cloths. I deal with stress by cutting off the chatter: telephone, TV, and other distractions. I listen to music, sounds capes and. symphony.
This time we are going to do it. emoticon

Have a few go to low calorie things that keep you from eating other more caloric things. I will brew a pot of green tea and drink it instead of eating. I also always have sugarless gum available. If I really have to have something I pop a bag of low fat popcorn (100 calorie portion)

Dear Sparkers: I am new to this site, so I am still learning how it works. I really like the calorie counter and fitness tracker. Seeing those calories pile up during the day should help control my night time eating - right? What else do you use for not eating at night? Do you deal with stress by rewarding yourself with food? That is my downfall. If I had a bad day, out comes the pasta, followed by the chocolate and sweets and a couple of glasses of wine.


I am so sick of not fitting into my clothes!! Bring on the exercise!

I am on a roll right now I don't lose fast but I lose steady. Every week that scale is down 1 pound. I have 26 pounds to go and to make sure I get there I am doing the Spring into shape challenge and training for a walking/jogging 5K. I am willing to "kick your butt" if you want.

I certainly understand having a buddy to discuss the trials and tribulations of weight loss/gain. But what I need in a buddy is one that will tell me that I'll only make progress if I stick with my food plan and exercise and quit saying "well, it was just this once", cause it never is. Kind'a a "kick butt buddy" - and that's exactly what you'd get from me if I was your buddy. I'm sure this is not the first time we've tried to lose weight (I know it's not for me - try 20 years of on/off dieting) and we all know the grief of trying to lose weight, and the rules for doing so - and I will NOT end this year once again weighing the same (or more) than I did last year! How bout you?

If you don't find someone with this post, may I suggest looking at some of the smaller teams that require daily posting. For example

has daily boards where you check in. Since there are only 22 members as of right now you will get familiar with the other members quickly and build a rapport with them. I wish you luck finding a one on one friend. I do have one and it is great to comment back and forth. Good luck!

I am so depressed today! I have grown out of all my spring/summer clothes. I went to buy a few pairs of capri's to wear until I can lose the weight I gained over the winter following my foot surgery and "pity parties". I couldn't fit into the size I never-ever wanted to be. I would love to have a weight loss journey friend/s that I can be accountable to and be able to discuss the trial and frustrations of the journey with. The community boards are great but I think I need a little one on one checkup. I will be happy to do the same. Any one else in the same boat?
Is there someplace else on Sparkpeople that you can make matches for buddies?
