Hi Vickie,
As I read your post, I couldn't help but see myself in some of what you described.
The idea is just to get moving. Your goal of walking more is ideal. The weight loss will follow.
Good luck and keep me posted on your progress.

Jackie

Thank you so much for your post. It was like reading about myself, except for the graduating with your BS. For that I congratulate and admire you! I have 35 lbs to lose and today will beging the 28 day boot camp from Sparkpeople. I am so afraid that I will fail again and lapse back into poor eating habits and refusing to exercise. My son is getting married on July 7th and would like to have lost about 1/2 of those 35 lbs by then. I'm afraid that my body won't let the weight go. I have been involved with WW for a long time and at one time I did very well with it but the last few years have not been so kind and I just gave up. I am 58 now. Thanks again and you will do great!!

I'm not going to recommend carrot and celery sticks or fruit....you are already familiar with them. I will suggest, however, that you make these healthy for you foods fun to eat.
A little peanut butter or cream cheese and raisins on celery is a pleasant change.
I love a cup of frozen (unsweetened) blueberries with skim milk and a packet of splenda stirred until you have an icy slush....it is like eating blueberry ice cream. Now that's what I call a fun snack!
I also enjoy an ounce of cheese with a small apple or pear. I find that a small amount of protein with a small amount of carb makes for a satisfying snack that has some staying power.

Things went awry with health stuff this past year or so in a rugged way and I am regrouping now as my mind is finally starting to clear and I feel like I have a bit more energy again.
I realize I actually have not been on the site for a year and that is embarrassing!

but, I have returned. I am glad to be here again. Its a great site and everyone truly is genuine.

As the weather has been moving to spring weather more substantially and its warmer, my pain from fibro and arthritis is getting better so I want to start walking and am working particularly to limber up a very touchy and stiff left shoulder and upper arm.

I got mad at myself for giving into too many rainy days last year and I have bought a number of those dollar store ponchos and have some better ones too around the place or in my day bag , so it makes it easier to think , in the first place, that it is ok to take a walk even if its just a steady rain or drizzle outside. Or its handy to grab if it is with me and I am out walking and it starts up !

Getting back into that routine of taking walks is primary to all else , not just losing weight or toning up some muscles I know I still have somewhere! So,

I am in no shape to jump into a very active program and its going to take awhile so I think doing things that are done in a smooth really natural fashion are best to get a new start again. Otherwise I will really hurt myself. So, maybe its slow but if I can make it steady and my limbering up comes along, eventually it will get towards a much more normal level of activity.

I need some encouragement and someone to keep tabs on me. Feel free to add me as a friend or request it. I like to send stuff to others and will do the same and will try to be here more consistently again.

Yes! I am a compulsive eater. Oh how I hate that. But it is undeniable. So I spend a great deal of time binge eating and then hating myself for it. How crazy is that?? I am so hoping that this forum and SparkPeople in general will help me break this pattern. It is good to know I am not alone.
Best to you MrsClark!

Hi, All. Like each of you I'm am looking for support, moitvation and accountability. So, far so good. I've taken to blogging which is helping me alot. You can read my blog if you choose.

I also suggest you may want to blog also. It will also keep you being accountable to your fellow readers. Blogging helps you and help others see that they are not along in this. Just because you don't see yourself in scripted articles, doesn't mean someone else is not going thru what you are. In some things we all share the same issues. But there is that one or two things that makes our issue unique. So, get to blogging.

It's keeping me in line and on track.

So,

I tell my children, Learn their Past, to Understand their Present, to see what needs to be Changed in the Future.

Hello and welcome to the team. I'm sorry it took me so long to welcome you - I've had a crazy few weeks that was topped off with my daughter visiting me from the east coast. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation and BS in Human Services. I worked in that field for years and I understand how busy and hectic your life must be now. You are very brave to undertake weight loss on top of everything else. It is hard to set aside time for regimented exercise, however, what I have tried to do when life gets crazy is look at the little things that keep your body moving and active - parking at the end of the parking lot and taking stairs instead of elevators. Walking the grocery store with vigor - ditto with the shopping malls! Looking for any little thing that gets the body moving. Talking to other Spark members is one of our biggest resources because everyone is cheering you on and encouraging you - even when you feel like giving up on yourself some days.. Good luck in your journey - sounds like you have great things ahead of you! emoticon

walk 10,000 steps a day.

find foods that work with YOUR body chemistry.

i make this mixture for breakfast , lunch and dinner. i have lost 34 pounds .

i cook 4 large portabella mushrooms sliced, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, 4 large onions sliced, 2 large green peppers, 3 cans green beans, 1 can rutabaga and 5 sliced chicken sausages. find foods that work with your chemistry. i created this meal on my own. i can't seem to loose weight if i eat any grain products. so one day i experimented.

it makes enough for at least 4 days, three meals a day. total cost is 12 dollars. i buy the mushrooms and chicken at sams club. sounds crazy but it taste good and most importantly it's working. i'm not hungry . if i feel the urge to cheat i go get a fork full of my mixture. i chew very slowly as to enjoy my meal.

i have added a small banana and grapes for my snacks and to be a fix for my sweet tooth.

you can add other foods into your menu. just know what works with your body chemistry.

I have gone from 198 to 164 pounds. i can now fit into a size 14 comfortably. i feel so much better. think of carrying a 2 year old around your waist every minute of every day. no i am not done. on the obese chart i have gone from being obese to just plain fat. my goal is to drop another 22 pounds. then i will be happy, healthy and never allow myself to get in this condition again.

one might say eating the same food every day would get boring. not true. when you look in the mirror and can see the difference it's worth

i went to the doctor. for the first time in a long time i was not ashamed to get on the scale. i did not have to get beet red because doctor said i was over weight. it felt GREAT.

Hi and welcome to the team. I suggest you try exercising in the morning before heading out to classes/work because it will rev up your engine for the day and that way you when you are tired in the evening you can just relax with your cup of tea. Even just 10 minutes in the morning to begin will help.

Hi, I am 55 years old and will graduate with a BS in human services this May. I am very excited about beginning the next chapter of my life.

I want to loose 30 pounds for several reasons. I want more energy to enjoy my husband, children, grandchildren, and work. I want to get off all anti-depressants and high blood pressure medication. I want to look better so I can feel confident and fit into clothes I like. I want to get rid of aches and pains. I want to be a positive role model for my children who have followed in several of my bad habits.

I have trouble staying motivated especially when I am very busy (most of the time) and when I am tired (lots of the time). It is often easier to grab something I shouldn't eat, and it is often easier to relax with a cup of tea instead of exercising.

My goal in becoming active on a team page is to check in 2-3 times per week and "weigh in" once a week. I am hoping that posting publicly about my eating and exercise habits and weighing in will keep me motivated and that other team members will help me be accountable.

One day at a time. One hour at a time. One minute at a time. One choice at a time. We can do it!
