Gabby and KTISFOCUSED:

Thanks for your input! But in-between my post and yours, I actually got up and took a walk. I didn't want to, and I am still tired, but it did feel good after a little while. I didn't do anything hardcore, but I got moving and out into the fresh air.

I tend to agree though - lots of times my body is trying to tell me something when I feel this way. Hopefully I don't come down with something. I plan to try and get a good night's sleep tonight...I wish I could take a nap right now but I don't think that would go over to well at work!

Have a great weekend!

Abby

Fabby,
Because you normally do some kind of activity and just don't feel like doing it, I'd say listen to your body. Sometimes our body just needs a rest. Maybe you're fighting something off or you're just tired out or maybe you didn't sleep well or who knows? The point is I think you have to listen to your body. I've had a few days where I just couldn't get going and in my case I was usually fighting off an infection and a day of rest did me a world of good. I bet tomorrow you will feel like getting right back to it.

Wow this hasn't been used since February until your question. I would allow myself a day off if you're not feeling up to it. Maybe your body is trying to tell you something and you don't want to risk injury. Then again I rarely exercise because my body tells me every day not, so I'm not a good one to offer an opnion LOL!

Changing the track of this conversation a bit...

I am having one of those days. I just cannot get motivated to work out. I usually go for a long walk at lunch at a minimum, but today I just feel tired and am dragging.

Here's the dilemma: on the one hand, I feel like I should be able to give myself permission to take a day off. On the other hand, there is a voice in my head saying that is a classic excuse, and I should just get up and do something!

Any opinions, friends?

@JMKISBY - I think this is an excellent subject since it seems quite a few of us are struggling with the same issue. I think you should post this under General Discussions as a new topic. I'm sure that you'll get a much better response there. I'll add my experience if you post it there. Since this topic is in the "daily Cafe" and is mainly for non diet stuff, you only have a few members who follow this thread.

I wasn't sure how to answer your question. I'm in my own restart mode myself. So far what seems to work for me is to re-commit. Write it down. And also I always need to start c1 after c3. It's my wipe the slate clean, fresh start, get out the book and re-read mode.

I keep telling myself - I deserve to be healthy. My kids deserve a healthy mom. So when I see something and want it and it has no place at all on c1 (like the fresh donuts that showed up at work today), I just tell myself I'm worth more than a mouthful of crap.

I am smack in the middle of getting to goal (50 gone and 50 to go) and I read a post that said they easiest part of losing weight was the 1st 50 lbs. The second 50 was the hardest because it didn't change her life. She had to change her life herself.

It's not about the weight anymore. It's about looking deeper than what a mirror shows us. And that is the hard part.

Hi everyone! i'm new to this SP Team, but not new to the diet. I have lost about 25-30lbs on this diet and kept it off. My problem is that i have about 50 more lbs to lose and cannot seem to get back on track. I haven't been able to consistently lose for about 3 months now. I have not been strict on the diet, i admit, however, i do work out about 5-6 days a week. Does anyone have any tips on how to get motivated to start losing again? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Anyone that can tell me their story about how they were able to jump back into it? Any tips, suggestions, advice, would be awesome!! Thanks a lot everyone!!

@Gabby, I am so glad you had some fun time with your hubby. Thanks for letting us know that you might not be on as much as we have gotten used to. I think it is great that you are taking time to expand your horizons. I know you will do well with that because you are so good at researching things for us here.

i wanted to add an emoticon but my computer was acting very weird. so think i will just send this.

Hope everyone has a good night.

I had fun playing Wii games with my hubby the last couple of days and didn't watch any soaps. Last night instead of watching what I recorded, I just deleted them all, so if I miss anything really exciting on Y&R (which I doubt since it's same old, same old) let me know.

I'll be spending a lot of time studying for a civil svce exam next month in case I'm not around very much. I don't even know if I'm actually going to take the exam because it's in a different county, that really gets a lot of snow and I want to move to a warmer not colder climate; but I want to be prepared in case I actually decide to take it - even just to see how I do on one.

I would like to request prayers for my son's doctor to take two seconds to call us with test results. I believe that they will be positive and they are the only thing standing in our way of getting on the road.

We are the ones we've been waiting for.

Well I tried to watch the Grammys tonight - and realized I don't have a taste for a lot of the music any more. Plus some people just try too hard to be odd. I think Katy Perry is cute as all get out but don't understand they dying of the hair blue. It distracts from her cuteness. And it is sad about Whitney Houston. She had an amazing voice and used to be so pretty.

Can't believe how fast the weekend went. Back to work already tomorrow but it's a 4 day week for me as I have Friday off to go to another game. Plus the boss is on vacation - woo hoo!

How was everyone's weekend? Anybody do anything fun?

@Ell - Welcome, but you might want to post a new topic under Introductions and introduce yourself again to the whole team. This is just for chatting about anything not really diet related and not everyone checks in here. Also Happywalker posted a new topic for starting this week and is looking for someone to join her in there so you can commiserate together!

Happy Sunday everyone.
DLG, my sister had a westhighland terrier and she was the sweetest little thing, I think if I even get another pet, I would love to have a little pup...one that didn't get too big, but not one of those yappy little things either...something cute, fluffy and adorable.
Just heard that Whitney Houston is dead!!!!!
What a loss for the music industry.

What is everyone doing this wonderful Sunday???? I think I will give myself a treat and do some laundry today....I CAN'T WAIT lol.
Have a great one whatever you are going to do.

Welcome to our amazing Team Ellslimmingdown...you are going to love it here.

Tah Dah! Here I am - had a crappy week couple of days at work so when I've gotten home I took out my frustrations by re-lining the shelves in the kitchen. I gotta quit doing that because at 4:00 a.m. I had dishes every where yesterday. I keep hearing my boss is getting moved to the midnight shift so am keeping my fingers crossed. I always remember that saying "what goes around comes around" but have you noticed that some people seem to always escape that rule?

ELLSLIMMINGDOWN! Welcome to the team and to our chat home. We talk a little about anything and everything in here, so please feel free to keep checking in and let us get to know you.

Gabby - am thinking if I got a littler dog it would be a West Highland Terrier but I wouldn't have him groomed like they do in the commercials. I've seen pictures of them just left shaggy and they are so adorable. My niece has a Multi-poo and he's so cute too. And so darn smart. He knows all of his toys by name and when he does something bad my sister just points and he goes to his bed and sulks for about 2 hours.

LilSpark - am sorry to hear about your hamster! I had one when I was in high school and loved that guy. He used to just make me laugh when he'd sit there at the door of his cage just holding on to the bar and looking at me like "take me out please!". And glad to hear your costumes are done!

I agree about Kevin and whatshername stupid story line and what is up with Jeffery? Has he really lost his memory, or is it a put on??? I think he and Jill will get back together and Angelo and Gloria will get it on. I agree it is just downright stupid.
I am really not too upset when I miss it now...even though I can tape it, sometimes I forget...that darned CRS keeps hitting me lol.

Well off to do dishes and make soup and yogurt. Have a great day ladies.

You asked about DLG in another post and I think she's just busy with work and car shopping.
I think the whole story line with Kevin is absolutely ridiculous - come on! Why doesn't he just open up his mouth! The only soap to have consistently good stories is GH. I actually find I'm not as hooked on them as I used to be. Same old same old.
I wasn't going to cook today, but since it's snowy maybe a little chicken soup is in order - bye all I'm off to cook while I'm in the mood!

Just until you get notification's again just come in and check your favorite topics like here!

Did you go to "start" and then up on the top left click on "account/email settings", then "email", then "manage message board subscriptions". It will show you on the bottom which ones you may have been unsubscribed from. If that doesn't help then at the start page go to the top left and click on the tab, "How To Use This Site" There are FAQS and you can search tech help. That's where I found this article (which I didn';t bother reading LOL)

I never knew how you all got notifications! I just set mine.

We have only a hamster. It has cancer :( and she is turning over 2 years this summer. My daughter has been prepared, but her hamster seems to be defying odds. She was hard to wake but I realized her cage was too close to the door (cold) and it was making her hibernate.

No dogs or cats for us - it's against the apt rules.

I have happy news - dd's costumes should be done tonight! We went to get them last week and she wanted to make a couple more adjustments before letting us take them back.

@DLG - we used to have German Shepherds too, then I raised Labs. The older I get, the smaller my dogs get! So much easier to train them to poop on some papers if you can't get home in time to let them out, not that I need to worry about that anymore since I'm always home. It's easier to take small dogs on trips too. People don't mind if you bring a small dog who doesn't bark or nip to visit. So consider a small dog! My mother has a Shih Tzu (I used to also), and they rarely bark but they have to get groomed. Her dog always goes on papers in the spare room. Her poop is the size of my thumb!
My next dog is going to be a Cavalier King Charles spaniel. I've had rescues for the last 20 years, but I've always wanted one of those.

I didn't know you were a co-leader of such a big group! I'll have to check it out, but I'm more like the over 60 with a ton to lose LOL!

Gabby - how awesome about your hubby! See what good a woman does for a man!

I don't sign up for alerts - just because I'm co-leader of the 50+ with a ton to lose group (that's not the official title) and it's a huge huge group I would get a gazillion e-mails a day so I turned off my alerts.

Pudgy - I've noticed that I don't do as well as night either. I still drive a lot at night - mostly because that's when I come home from work. But I'll drive home a lot after the nephew's basketball games and that's 120 miles. It's a good thing your husband finally said something - too bad he didn't say it sooner though!

Gabby - the pet thing. I want a dog but am waiting to get the backyard fenced in - right now it's wide open. And I'm trying to decide what kind to get. We've always had German Shepherds when I was growing up and they were some of the best darn dogs. My old insurance company said my rates would go up if I had one but I'll have to check with my new insurance company. I'm also looking at Huskies. Or maybe I'll just get a goldfish. Easy to care for, they eat very little and if something should happen they are easy to dispose of!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Well goodmorning ladies, I am beginning to feel a little like DLG lately lol. Haven't been getting any notifications at all for the past 2 days. Monday I had a ton of them in my mailbox, went through them all, went to bed and woke up Tues with nothing in there from 17DD. I thought OK, quiet morning....nothing in the afternoon, nothing last night and again, nothing this morning, So I thought I had better check in with you all. Let you know I am still in the land of the living.

Here I am. Can't get my new VCR/DVD player to tape, so I tape downstairs, watch something else up here and then go down and get the tape and watch it up here lol. I really don't like sitting in my living room all by myself, I feel so much more comfy up here in the computer room with all my friends here around and I can still watch TV lol.

So I am still here ladies, and if I don't get anything tonight I will pop in and check out the boards that I usually check out.

Have a great day....love ya all

@DLG - it's really good that your parents did that. My mother added my brother and me also. It means that if they have to go into a nursing home, the nursing home can't take all their money. You keep saying that you're going to get a pet - so when are you?

@PNM - I thought it was just me. I used to love driving at night. Especially on long trips. Now I hate it because I have a hard time seeing.

My DH went to the doctor today and the doctor told him that he should get a manager and go on the road giving talks about how he managed to get his sugar under control in such a short time. He said the whole office congratulated him, because after being told that he was a full blown diabetic 3 1/2 months ago he is now at the low end of normal. He is lower than he was two years ago. I didn't go with him, but he told them all it was due to my cooking and supervision.
I credit this diet, because he eats the same as I do with the addition of whole grains. It's like he's on C3 all the time. That's what can happen when you eliminate most processed foods.
I'm really proud of him and really really glad that I found this diet!

I have a backing camera on my Prius. I've gotten used to it but still forget to use it sometimes. My problem is night driving. I rarely do it but the other night we went out to dinner with some friends and on the way home (which I've taken a million times.) I turned left instead of right and went about 3 miles before Mr. Skinny said something. I get so disoriented after the sun goes down. It makes me feel kind of old and crazy.

We are the ones we've been waiting for.

I just reread my post from a couple of days ago - I apologize for the bad grammar and typing! I like my little netbook because it stays charged for hours but when you get older you new things bigger! So I'm back home now and on the bigger laptop so now any typos, bad grammar, etc. I have no one to blame but me. I need to get a pet because then I can say "oh the dog bumped my fingers" or "the cat walked across the keyboard".

Gabby - 2 of the cars I've test drove have the backing camera. At the GMC dealership I asked if I could back it into one of their bays and see how close I could get to the door and the salesman kind of looked at me funny. I'm worried I'd be watching the mirror too much and then hit the side of the garage with the front fender or something.

We have snow - about 9" here. The trees are so pretty right now. I really need to lose 15 pounds real quick so I can get a better camera. Ok - that's a lie - LOL - it's 22 pounds before I can get the newer camera.

So Linda.....will you be changing your name to "HOT NANA ANGEL"?

I'm a land baroness now. My folks, after 10 years of me nagging at them to do something about the farmland and getting a will, my step-dad decided to add me to all their property and bank accounts. So as soon as I got there he promptly handed me a bill and told me I needed to pay the fertilizer that was just put down. And I promptly told him that he needed to clean out one of the garage stalls then so I had a place to put my car when I come down. He's going to be 88 in 2 weeks and he's still so sharp.

Anything new with anyone? How's your week going?

So now I had to add a new goal - leggings! I only have to lose 130 more pounds LOL! Better take a picture Linda. Tarzhay :) too funny Linn

DLG - emoticon I'm the same way but the new vehicles have backup cameras and a sonar system. It starts beeping real fast when you're very close to something. The first day I had it I experimented with backing up to the garage door but of course I didn't read the manual first and didn't know what the beeping meant and almost hit the door.
Good for your nephew! You should be a proud aunt.

Zellers here in Canada has been bought out by Target, but we haven't heard when they are taking over, that was a couple of years ago that happened and still nothing....I heard sometime maybe this year, but who knows. I have shopped in Target when I was in the U.S. visiting my sister.
Maybe I'll go into Zellers and see if they have any flat ones. Not sure about the heels lol. Maybe a small heel.
I will most definately take the pic when the outfit is completed. But alas, it is blue, not pink or red for Valentine's day, but then I won't have a Valentine this year so who cares lol.

I also chuckled that you ran over the blinking light that was supposed to tell you to stop!
Linda, I love my leggings and long sweaters! I do have 2 pairs of boots, one flat pair and a pair w/ heels. Do you have Target in Canada? I bought my flat ones at Target (pronounced "Tarzhay" like it's French, emphasis on the 2nd syllable). My shoe snob former boss even complimented me on them! I can't wait to see the picture!

Thanks DLG, now that song will be WALKING through my head all day long lol.

I agree with you about Nikki and Jack and Genevieve and Victor....OMG, the writers have to come up with something new...it is getting ridiculous. I don't even care when I miss a night anymore.
And Phylis and Nick...come on...I hate those 2.
Sharon and Adam belong together, hope they both leave the show soon.

Linda - as soon as I read you and boots that song from Nancy Sinatra came to my mind - and since you're about my age I know you'd remember it "These Boots are Made for Walking". Get yourself a pair and strut!

I'm still new car shopping - but am not going to tow anything. I have horrible depth perception. I think I'm right up next to something and get out and I'm still 3 feet away. I read some where that women overall don't have the best depth perception and it gets worse as we age. Pretty soon I'll think I'm in the garage and still be out in the driveway. I even got one of those light things that when you get within a couple of inches it blinks - I ran the darn thing over.

I'm down in Kansas again for a basketball game - they lost but my nephew scored 21 points! And they only lost by 5 to the 2nd ranked team in the state in their class so it was a good night. Found out he signed with a private college in Kansas to play football next year. He actually will be getting two scholarships for sports - football and track. I wanted him to hold out to see if he'd get a basketball scholarship but he dad encouraged him to do what he wanted and he wants to play football. I don't mean to brag but LOL I am! Not only is he a good athelete but he's a good kid.

Hope you feel better soon LittleSparkGirl! And that your stress level goes down.

Gabby and Linda - just a snippet here for the Y&R - why'd they have Nikki and Victor have this mushy reunion only to now have them seem to be going to opposite sides. For some reason I'm seeing Genevieve and Victor hooking up and Nikki going back with Jack. I found out that Nikki is a year older than I am - dang she's looking good. Her hiatus from the show did her well. LOL I need to try that from work myself.

Sounds great! I said that a Ram was #1 or #2 because Ford is #1 or #2 also ( I can't remember which is which). Now you're ready to roll. We were talking about songs in the other topic - how about "On the Road Again"!

Now DLG has to find a vehicle!

We wound up buying from a private person. A young man who has taken great care of his truck. It's an F-150 ford truck with all kinds of bells and whistles. We just had it checked out and it's in great shape. Wow....so freakin glad that's over! Now back to having a life.

@Linda - too bad! DLG has her yard boy and I thought you had your mail guy LOL!

@PNM - Dodge Rams are supposed to either be #1 or #2 according to Motor Trend magazine. Besides, my favorite cowboy does their commercials. If I didn't have a GM family discount that's what we would have bought! Don't forget to play dealer off against the other - boy does that work! I'm doing an evil laugh - too bad you can't hear it! So I guess your vacation is postponed until you get one? If you're buying a new one ask about towing right away. I haven't checked the manual on the Avalanche yet but the Tahoe said we couldn't tow anything for the first 500 miles. If the Avalanche says the same thing I'm going to visit Linda! That'll put some miles on :)

Drove way too many trucks today. Learned more then I ever wanted to know about torque, duelies, 7.3 desiel, 1500, 2500, 3500, double cams, blah blah blah. Walked out on two dealers talked to three others. Now the phone, text and emails are flooding in. Hmmmm. Here is a nice 1500 Dodge Ram....maybe it was worth it.

I just wrote a really long post catching up on everything and when my mother asked me something from the kitchen (she knows that I can't hear her from there!) the post was gone when I came back - ugh!

I decided to check this topic even though I received no notification that there were new posts. I thought everyone forgot about it. I just figured that I would come in and complain about how dumb the writers are on Y&R (why didn't Genevieve just tell Jack she bought the company as a wedding gift?).

Imagine my surprise to find a whole bunch of new posts?!

@DLG - If I were there I'd go with you. My husband said that I was scary and he wouldn't want to face me in a negotiation. You do have to go to the dealer at least once just so you can get up and walk out. That's VERY important. Then go the another dealer and do the same thing. Then you can finish via phone calls and emails and pit one against the other. One guy wouldn't give me my keys back after they appraised my vehicle. He kept saying his manager had them and kept going to get them but instead coming back with another deal. I finally got up went to the managers office and demanded my keys back. Then the manager got involved trying to deal. I walked out and called him the next day to report the great deal I got somewhere else etc etc. Too bad you can't wait until the end of the month. That's when they "want to move cars" so their sales figures for the month look good.
BE STRONG - YOU CAN DO IT!!

@PNM- my lips have disappeared. I always had thin lips but I looked in the mirror the other day and had no lips! Also, saggy folds have appeared on my neck. I have no idea what's going on but I'm going to need some serious plastic surgery when I get all done.
I think our body image is why we gained weight back in the past. At least one of the reasons I did. My body was perfectly happy to comply with my minds vision of being fat. I think the tips you suggested sound good to try.

@Linda - Is the mail guy single? emoticon

Re: parents. My mother lives with us. I have to keep reminding myself to be patient because she's getting so forgetful (she insists that she's not) and I have CRS too. She always been my best friend and I'm hoping at 84 she will be around for quite a few years. She is the sweetest, most caring woman I ever met. I never heard her swear, raise her voice or say a bad word about anyone.
My father died a couple of years ago and I don't miss him. I realized a few years before he died, how destructive a parent he was and how I was damaged as a result. Lots of issues there. I just forgave him yesterday, as a matter of fact. I was reading a book about angels and guiding spirits and I thought - I don't want him hanging around so I'd better forgive him so he can move on to some other realm!

Go Giants - I don't want to see the Patriots win again!

I just had green beans from my garden that I blanched and froze. They didn't look great, but boy do they taste delicious! I'll have to do more this season. I still have corn from last summer but that will have to wait 16 more days LOL!

There I think I caught up!

LSG - feel better! Back pain is horrible to deal with, especially when you're a busy Mom. If you think it';s stress related try Yoga. Slow stretching exercises.

A little anxious today. I pick up dd's costumes from the dressmaker (alterations and additions to existing costumes). I have never been happy with alterations - I'm hoping that I will be happy this time! Until I see them I will be stressed. I must have a lot of stress right now that I am refusing to acknowledge because my back is in pain and nothing happened to cause the pain.

Very interesting topic - I've still got a long way to go before I know if I truly see myself as still fat - cuz right now I am. I'm an apple shape so everything is carried in my waist (and chestal area!). When I lose more I am going to look into breast reduction surgery - that'll be about 15 pounds gone right there.

Linda - any more dates? Oh and by the way I will be winning the Powerball tonight so we will be having a 17 Day Diet reunion and I'll buy!

Have a great day everyone!

Hey you 2, I too look at myself and still see fat...but then if I am still fat, how come I can wear a size 11 lol. Doesn't make sense does it. It isn't until someone tells you that you are really losing the weight, you just can't fathom it.
One of the mail drivers that brings us mail actually asked me today if I was OK? When I said ya, I'm fine, he said...well you've lost so much weight are you trying to do that or I hope you're not sick??? So I told him "no, I am trying to do this"...then he said "Well you look great, just glad you're not sick". I guess that was a compliment lol. I took it as one anyhow. lol.

The way that I see myself. Then stand in front of the mirror and confront the reality of my new skinny self. It's strange. I can see the ribs, I can see the small sizes, but in my heart of hearts I still think of myself as fat/obese. Maybe because it happened so fast.

There is something else that is new. I started really putting weight on in my late 40's....stress, stress, stress. When I turned 50 I felt like I had become invisible. Like I could just walk through life and nobody would know that I was standing right next to them in line. I thought it was my age.

Now I'm finding that people (strangers) will go out of their way to start up a conversation. I think that my inside was a reflection of my outside or vice versa. I'm happier now then I have ever been in my life. The weight loss has very little to do with it but it does matter. So I think that I was hiding behind a lot more then my weight. I remember a couple of years ago when some of my tennis team members were talking about going shopping when we were in a big city tournament. They asked me to come along but I said "After you turn 50, you stop shopping". Really????? What was that all about. As I give away my old clothing, I'm realizing just how old it all is. Other then buying a larger size from time to time, mostly I just forced myself to squish into things that were too small. So most of the things that I am giving away are as old as dirt. What does that say??? Anyway. We are all finding out things about ourselves that are interesting to say the least.

We are the ones we've been waiting for.

That is fascinating, PNM. I've been wondering what to do with the sagging skin. It seems like my stretch marks are more visible than ever! Can you clarify for me....did she want you to draw a pic of yourself the way you see yourself or the way you want to be?

I just returned from my acupuncturist (Anne). I went this time for a twitch in my left eye that's been driving me bonkers. Anyway...while I was there I asked if acupuncture was effective in sagging skin. She told me that it's not a face lift by any stretch of the imagination but that you can send blood flow to an area that has too much skin and it will make it look more normal. She was also amazed at my weight loss and we talked about it. I confided to her that even though I'm in a size 5/6, I still see myself as chubby. I just asked Mr. Skinny to take a picture of me for the valentine's day pic and I don't like it. I have that "earth mother" figure that is all hips. Anyway Anne suggested that I draw a picture of myself the way that I picture me and set it somewhere that I can see it. She thinks that it will reveal how distorted my thinking is if I look at it every day then look in the mirror. I'm going to give it a shot.

We are the ones we've been waiting for.

Linda - just finished watching today's episode. It's about time someone figured out that Patty was back. That's the one thing that irks me about soaps - they have people being not very bright. I always like how they have people "lurking" in the shadows and you can clearly see them.

It is tough losing a parent. I talk to my mom every Sunday. She's kind of in a "needy" stage right now. She's not really in need - she's fairly healthy, would be more so if she lost weight but I can't get her to walk more or anything. She's just going through those awkwards years - you know the 70s!

The family member I miss most is my grandpa - I was his favorite - everyone knew it. But then again I was just so darn adorable that it was pretty hard for someone to trump me. Since my dad really wasn't around my grandpa was my male roll model and he was a great one. Every holiday, no matter what it was, even Groundhog's Day was a celebration. He just enjoyed his life. It was him that gave me my love of the mountains and every time I take a trip I feel the need to always return to the mountains. It's where I feel the most peace.

I'm still car hunting and frankly I hate it. I need to hire a man to do negotiating for me. I stink at it. I don't want to tie up my Saturdays sitting at a car dealership so have been trying to do most of it through e-mails and researching on-line. I just have to make up my mind what's more important - better gas mileage or a roomier interior.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Hey DLG, I'm here..
I was just watching Friday's episode of the Y&R...OMG, are you and Gabby in for a shocker!!!!!!!!!!

I am also lucky to still have my Mom around. I don't get to see her much, but she is just a phone call away.and that is very comforting.
My dad died in March 1989 and every time Mar 20th rolls around, I think of him and have a wee chat with him. I was his llittle girl. I was the one to give him permission to die on that day. But part of me died with him. My daughters were both small when he died and even though they still remember him, I wish he had been around to see what beautiful women they turned out to be and what beautiful grandchildren they gave to me.

Sharon, My mom died about 15 years ago on the 18th of December. I forget every year and then find myself very emotional around that time. Each year it gets a little easier, I've stopped picking up the phone to call her when I need to talk, but there were times right after she died that I did pick up the phone and pretend to tell her all my hopes, fears, dreams and mistakes. I always felt better after those pretend phone conversations plus, she had a lot better advice and intellect after she died. We also got along a lot better.

Mr. Skinny's mom passed in 2007. She was the last of the older generation for our family. Now we look around the table at Thanksgiving and Christmas and realize that we are the patriarch and matriarch of the family and I have to say...they are lonely titles indeed.

We are the ones that the little grand kids look to when they say things like. "Did they have air when you were little?" Dinosaurs? Cars? Sometimes it's pretty fun. We had one child believing that air was invented by a women named Samantha air. She believed us until her teacher set her straight and called us in for a conference.

We are the ones we've been waiting for.

Hi Ladies! I wonder where Gabby and Linda have been. Appears it's time to shoot them an e-mail and remind them.

Truth and LilSpark - am sorry you both have lost your mom's. I'm fortunate to still have mine around - she's 77, my step-dad will be 88 this month. I lost my dad a year and a half ago. That is probably one of the real regrets in my life, that I wasn't very close to him. But it made me realize I needed to mend a couple of other relationships and stay more involved with my family. And I also realized after he passed that he really did love us, even if he never said it.

And any topic - light-hearted or deep in thought is good here! Mostly Gabby and I talk football or a soap opera but it's great to have other topics brought up. Any food for thought is great. It's a way to share and get to know one another.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm car shopping - ugh. I like looking, just not the negotiating process. I'm trying to get my nephew to come up from Kansas City and do it for me. He loves wheeling and dealing. I just like shopping!

I miss my mom too. Every birthday, but mostly when the kids do something - good, bad- etc. I want to pick up the phone and call her. Odd, before I lost her, I always thought people could "get over it and move on", but now I know. Can you do something in remembrance? Sometimes I wear a piece of her jewelry.

Today I am going to be busy and this weekend I'm looking forward to watching the US National Skating Championships. I have been following online all week. Very exciting!

I also have an appointment to get dd's costume altered. Speaking of dd - yesterday she won 2nd place in her chess club tournament. :D She started learning how to play this fall.

I have been really out of sorts the last day and a half. Mostly physical with then the emotional overlay. or so i believed. this morning i realized yesterday would have been my mother's 80th birthday. she died in 2002. she really liked birthday parties. of course, i remembered it was her birthday, but i hadn't done the math until this morning to realize it would have been a big one. we had a very complicated relationship.

today, although it is raining, i felt a bit better until i realized the 80th part. now, i am sort of melancholic. (not sure that is a word).

but for me, understanding my triggers or thought processes helps me "overcome" and move past and be stronger and wiser.

hmmm. not sure if this is a daily cafe topic. seems a bit too deep.

so, let's see..... i am planning (would be better to plan less for this one) to make a big difference in how cluttered and messy my apartment is. the rainy weather should really help support that endeavor.

hope everyone is having a good day.

I don't think I've ever come into this topic before. It seems I missed a lot by not doing so. seems to be a great place to just chat. and ramble.

sounds good to me.

took my car to a local service station and walked home. but was raining when they called to tell me it was ready so let my father come by and give me a lift. walk home was interesting as i have never walked on some of those roads. you always see things differently going slow.

stopped in a cell phone store metro something. i need to get a pay as you go phone. and i now want a smart phone. i have very limited minutes and texting and no online. but, i want one with good service if i travel.

oh, anyone out there see the aurora borealis? i am too far south. i need to put that on my list of things to do.

happy thursday.

Happy Birthday Trekker! And way to go on the 15 pounds.

I tried to post last night but they were doing maintenance on the boards so every time I'd write something it'd never go so I gave up and finally went to bed.

How is everyone? LOL where is everyone? I was the only one that huddled today - I felt so alone!

Y&R must be struggling for story lines since now they arrested everyone. I didn't watch the whole thing today since I had to take my rental car back but am pretty sure I didn't miss much!

Speaking of car - the transmission didn't go out but the transmission case or housing or something like that came loose and fell........but it was covered under warranty so that was a good thing.

Have a good Thursday everyone!

Today is C-1 d17, the last day of cycle one for me AND its my 58th birthday today as well. I finish 15 pounds lighter. I am very happy, I feel good. As the book says, anyone can give it 17 days. So entering Cycle 2 will be intersting as I embark on a cruise tomorrow. I feel confident to stick with it. Cruising is part of what got me here in the first place, but I do feel strong.

I did find weekends very hard but obviously by my success, I didn't falter. I know what I have to do, I have a plan in my head and I do know how very hard it is going to be. I am glad to be able to have a little more to chose from on Cycle 2 and to add some starch every other day.

Although 15 pounds is a great start, sometimes its overwhelming to know I still have 60 pounds to go.

Linda

Ok Linda and Gabby - I just watched the Y&R episodes from last Thursday, Friday and today. They drag things out for so long then all the sudden a bunch happens in just 1 episode. Kind of thought it was a bit too pure coincidental that Adam & Sharon and the Victor and Nikki hooked up without none of the parties involved crossing each other's paths while frolicking! There was that one part today that showed Adam and Sharon in the window and I was thinking Nick or Michael would drive by and see them. I did like Sharon's suit - before it came off LOL. I use to have this cute little suit with a peplum back in the day when I could wear cute little suits with a peplum.

And what is up with all these women and their long straight hair. Genevieve's hair looks horrible! Every time I saw her I wanted to just yell "get a haircut"! At least Nikki's has some body and that little flip thing in the back. Ok - I'm done ranting now.

I was thinking today if that was me on the desk top I'd probably fall off and break a hip or something

The car thing is being covered under warranty because the transmission case came loose. LOL so evidently I had a screw loose. I did get a rental car but had to wait for someone to come get me from work today. And I told the guy I'd bring him money tomorrow for gas and he said ok. Then I got to thinking - I had to go pick him up 3 times when his car was broke down. I'll have to remind him of that tomorrow. And when I was at the car dealer they were doing their best to put me in a new car. I could never make it as a salesman - I'm not pushy enough. At least most of the time!

I'll have to watch for the Tide commercial Linda - I don't believe I've seen it. I thought to live in Canada one of the requirements was to love the cold. I must be wrong huh?

Have a good Tuesday!

So what did you have to do...rent a car to get home? Did you even go grocery shopping??
Oh my, and this is why I don't drive lol.
But boy, there are those times when I wish I did drive...like when I run out of food and can't get anyone to take me shopping. Then it is walking to the grocery store (which isn't too bad), but then calling a cab to get home. Spring and summer isn't too bad, because I have a buggie to put them in and I could walk them home( which would be really good for me lol), but not in the winter, no thank you.
I don't know if any of you have ever seen the Tide commercial where it says "No self respecting Canadian would stay inside during the winter...so wash you clothes in cold water" Well this SELF-RESPECTING CANADIAN hates winter lol. I also hate that commmercial lol.

OK, now I am rambling lol. Back to the boards.

I'm still here! Been running back and forth to Kansas - 3 trips in 5 days, to watch the nephew play in a basketball tournament. They ended up getting 2nd, which was fantastic since they were seeded really low to begin with. And no one could hit a shot on Saturday night - including the other team. Which was a good thing since we couldn't make a basket either - otherwise it could've been really ugly.

Then tonight I was going to run up to Omaha to Target - mostly because I've not been there for a week and was having withdrawals but I was going to go to the grocery store too. I noticed last night coming home that the car didn't seem to be shifting right and called my brother and he said to check the fluids then make an appointment to get it looked at. Fluids looked good and I got 3 miles out of town and heard 3 clunks and I put on the brake then it just wouldn't move. So had to call a tow truck, which that part was covered under warranty. So we'll see what happens. I was two months away from getting a new one - so I'm kinda of growly tonight. I think I'll make a deal with them and tell them either they fix it or I go some where else for my next car. LOL then still go somewhere else for my next car. Even though I love my car.

I'm rambling here - I really do need to get a pet.

How is everyone doing?

Lol no - it didn't sound that way at all. When I was pg with ds I wanted a girl. I was freaked when he was a boy. But then - a boy was right for me. Then when I was pg with dd I only wanted a boy. I thought brothers need each other and boys always love their moms...girls go through periods of not liking them. :P But i know there was a plan and having both a girl and a boy has been a great learning experience.

I hope my post about having boys didn't seem like girl bashing. Oh my goodness, I hope I didn't offend anyone. I'm sure if I'd had girls I'd be thanking my lucky stars that I dodged the bullet of all of this rough housing, walls with holes in them, stinky sports shoes of all kinds and various other testosterone induced craziness! Please forgive me if it sounded like I was saying one gender was better than another. I don't feel that way at all. I got boys, I love 'em. That's all.

That is the beauty of parenthood and grandparenthood....you get what you're supposed to have and we just fall madly in love with these new little humans no matter what the gender! It is amazing and wonderful. How exciting your daughter is expecting another baby! You'll have to keep us posted. When's she due?

You know what Lin...I never wanted boys...when I got pregnant, I prayed and prayed they would be girls...luckily, God answered those prayers.
Then when Cheryl got pregnant the first time, we both prayed it would be a girl and little Moriah came along, then Emma came along, I was thrilled to death. Then Laura said she was pregnant and she prayed for a girl and God answered with an adorable little boy...at first I was a little disappointed, but later when he came into this world...I was elated!!!!!!! I had a grandson. Then Cheryl got pregnant again and we had 2 little boys in the family...My Cody is my little pet. Then she got pregnant again and we really wanted another girl and when we found out that little Maxine was going to be little Maximus...again...elated. I dodged the dance bullet by having boys. So no monthly moodiness, girl drama, complicated hair or clothing battles. Instead I get to deal with stinky feet, bodily noises 24/7, sports, sports, sports, and these two dudes eating me out of house and home! They are both loving, grateful and affectionate boys and I wouldn't trade them for anything. .....though I do suffer from what I call "testosterone poisoning" from time to time! lol!

My oldest granddaughter danced in comps, but nothing like Dance Mom's...Cheryl would have smacked that woman across the face if she had talked to Moriah like that lol. The costumes though were really expensive. Very beautiful, but expensive. My favourite one she wore was a pink and black waitress costume from the 50's...the thing I liked so much about it was that across the back it said Ralphie's. My maiden name is Ralph and I cried when I saw that...coincidence, I think not lol. I have a pic of it...I will find it and put it in my album. She was so cute when she danced. But it was her choice to give it up. Now she is taking singing lessons and OMG, the poor kid is tone deaf. lol...but she loves it, so who is going to tell her lol. NOT ME!!!!!!!!!

Probably!!!! I think it's my biggest guilty pleasure. Dd doesn't dance competitively, so I have never really seen that type of comp live.

I hope I end up WITH a costume. I am really tired of working on it so hard and not having anything to show for it. :P

@LSG - Were you the one who recommended Dance Moms a long time ago? It got me hooked. Hope the costume is perfect!

Stress!

Early Nov I ordered a costume for dd's new season. the week after New Year's I got a call that the order was canceled and the fabric was no longer available and the company is no longer making that design. I scoured the web and no one has it anywhere. So I went to another shop and found a different style. It was okay - but too big all over. Their other store had one in the correct size. They sent it to the store for me. I called to get it and they said the size. It was the one that was too big - NOT the one I ordered. So I had to look again. Nothing was right - they had to be altered. I finally found an acceptable dress (but wrong color) - I emailed. The company said they have it in stock and it would ship tomorrow. Cross your fingers it comes and fits! I am really behind schedule and this is just too much! It still has to be 'designed' and I am running out of time. This stress sits in my stomach and yells for chocolate and ice cream.

@DLG - I stop watching sort of. I watch something else but go back to the games and keep tab of the scores. My mother faithfully watches all the games. I root for anyone who can beat New England. My DH keeps saying Belichek should have been kicked out of the league when he was caught cheating and I'm just tired of them winning all the time. My thing right now is hockey but the Sabres stink and need a new coach so I'm getting tired of watching them too. I wish I was into baseball or basketball but I'm not. I think they should raise the height of the baskets in basketball. They set the height when the average player was only 5'9''.
I just have to wait for NASCAR to start up in Feb.
