@ Kimberlybb emoticon emoticon

No foods with high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients it is too processed, I will not eat or buy the item.

@ Kimberlybb What a great idea. I am in.

I will have to tweak it for me. just not sure how yet. Money jar sounds good. I live between two states and one house, one apartment. We face a move in a couple of months back to our house. Perhaps I will break up the money so both states get a share!

thats terrific; then maybe you could do the money jar and buy some of those items as you go(say every 25 lbs or whatever number you set)/ I just , for me, know that I would be wasting my money on fast food if I wasnt sparking! so I might as well put it to a good cause!

Our community food bank had a presentation on donations a while back. Apparently, they can purchase certain food staples from a distributor for a huge discount. So, the money that is donated is used for those foods. But they still need other food donations that they can't use the money for. My food bank also collects diapers, toiletries, pet food, etc.

Wow thats great that its like that in your area. It's not like that here, at least not for the churches or non profits.
However anyone wants to do it that will motivate you the most and benefit your community.
I am just excited about seeing that huge pile of weight on the table ready to help people instead of hanging all over me!LOL!

I think the money jar is a good idea if you don't have a lot of room. Another good reason is that the food bank can purchase approximately $9.00 worth of food for every $1.00 donated. So they get a lot of bang for each buck donated.

that is a great alternative for people that dont have the space or would rather buy something like diapers that would be a super expensive item by the pound, but would be great to give.

I can just see in my mind a tower of stuff on my table and for me I think it would push me onward!!

Either way, it accomplishes two goals!! And thats a good thing!

Another thought is to put a set amount of money into a jar for each pound and buy the food when you get to 100 pounds or even 50 pounds ... both are a lot to carry. Where there is a desire, it's a challenge that can be done!

I have a dining table in my kitche.dining room; but now that there is only one of me, i never eat there. So either I can let my laundry pile up there, or I can put it to good use! but I think you could prob fit 20 bags of rice or sugar on a shelf in a closet; but if you couldnt, you could always just deliver it to the pantry more frequently and take pictures of the stuff to hang on fridge!

well, if you have that much space, go for it. sounds like it would be a good visual.

This is a fabulous idea! Every year when I was a Weight Watchers member, we had a food drive. We were to bring in the number of pounds of food that we'd lost each week. By the time we had the first drive after I joined, I was at my goal weight. I brought in 150 pounds of food. Picture it! Picture the effort it took to carry 150 pounds of food in. It was AWESOME! And lots of people were fed at our local food bank. I did it every year I was a member.

I emoticon this challenge!!!

I have an idea for a challenge for myself and my community. For every 5lbs I lose, I am going to buy a non perishable grocery item(sugar, flour, peanut butter, rice, dry beans, etc) and display on table in my dining room. I will donate these items when I hit 100 lbs. to the local food pantry.
this creates a visual for me about how much extra I am carrying around and it also gives back to my local community. the only real rule will be that it has to be healthy nonperishables.

anyone want to join me??
