Had a rough day yesterday after grocery shopping so I skipped my exercise and pampered myself. That did the trick, feeling better today so I'm going to do my Walk It Out wii video. It's fun and low impact.

Still struggling with an increase in my chronic pain, was beating myself up about it and feeling sorry for myself, but am turning that around and changing my attitude from "poor me" to "look what I can do in spite of it". I'm doing some of my strength exercises in the pool for the summer, that makes it easier and more fun. And I'm doing other, less taxing exercises, just to keep moving.

Starting on the exercise bike today. Only did 11 minutes at a resistance of 5, but that was 2 miles, so it was a start. Beth you give such great ideas to those of us who can't do too much. Thanks for that.

Thanks, Beth and everyone else. This thread got me up and moving for at least a little which IS better than doing nothing. Really struggling with motivation. I'm tired of being overweight.

Something is always better than nothing. Whatever you do is better than nothing. Find creative ways to get going. Even standing burns more calories than sitting. I sat in bed and listened to music and "danced" with my upper body, did figure eights with my hips on a stability ball, rolled around my kitchen in a roller chair, and arm biked. Find ways to work out that fit in to your life and ability level. If you know at heart you hate a 50 minute workout, then making that your goal is not going to work. Maybe 20 minutes of a formal workout in the morning and then again in the evening. If a formal 30 minutes is too much, try 2 15 minute sessions or 3 10 minute ones throughout the day.

Hope that helps!

Becky......
If you haven't already, try the chair exercise video's and the chair exercise workouts. That's what Beth suggested for me and it works great! The doctor said that when my knees are hurting which they do a lot, to just take my legs out of the equation. She said to work the upper body or sit in a rolling chair and work out that way. She also said that I can do the chair exercises, chair dance, or just MOVE..... She stressed the fact that I need to MOVE upper body or whole body at least 60 minutes a day even if I break it down into 15 or 30 minute sections of time....

Hope that helps a little! emoticon

Hi, PNKLDY74. I'm Carol (new to the group). My knees are bad, too--never gonna get better, doc says. But we gotta work out or the weight to come off, we know that. I find I can ride a stationary bike without much discomfort. And I try to do a lot of strength training (which, fortunately, I enjoy) because they say that boosts metabolism a lot. Hope this helps.

In Feb. 2010 I was jogging and messed up my right knee. It took several months before it got better. Since then, especially since I ended up gaining an additional 15 lbs. (top weight of 338 lbs.) I have flare ups all the time especially if I have been on it a lot. That always worries me as far as working out (part of why I have not done.) Well, I told myself this past week after talking to my doctor that enough is enough...it will never get better at all if I don't lose the weight. My doctor said it should be ok, just start slow. Well, I'm 3 days into working out and it is a bit sore, but not a "flare up". Anyone dealt with this and what was your experience?

Becky

God is my strength!

Hey that's a really good idea and would make you feel so much better. Just remember even if you don't do it as often don't forget to count what you are doing on the vacation if there's other things, ie, walking, swimming, etc. etc.
GOOD LUCK!

Been sick for almost a week, so very little workouts, although I did do 15 minutes of Leslie Sansone tonight.

Going on vacation in a month and scared about what to do during that time for fitness. Thinking about buying a portable DVD player so I can bring some fitness DVDs with me!

Definitely struggling. I've had an increase in pain lately which interferes with my exercising and triggers emotional eating, which just adds to the problem.

I am struggling to get my 5-6 days of cardio in. I am doing 10,000 steps a day but that isn't cardio. If I don't get to it in the morning I don't get to it at all! I'm still working on being a morning person. emoticon

Yes, I am struggling. Too many special events, traveling, etc. for the last two months. Just haven't stayed focused and eating things I really can't track.
BUT I won't give up!!! I know what to do and I WILL do it!!!

The more I exercise the hungrier I get...LOL..so I am eating all healthy small portion bits and nibbles of food to keep my hunger under control. This is a good habit I like working on because it is so easy for me to fall back into an old habit of just grabbing what ever I can and just stuffing my mouth.

But, like Beth says the old me would stuff anything into my mouth and now the new me is always planning out good food that actually nourishes me.
