@ Carol3san, thank you. I had a good weekend number wise!

Glad your blood sugar is better too. "We are works in progress LOL ha ha!!!"

No foods with high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients it is too processed, I will not eat or buy the item.

I'm happy for you because your blood sugar level is doing so well. And your A1C is a pretty decent number. My blood sugal level is much better also. It hasn't been dropping too low like it has been doing recently.

Just wanted to bring you up to date. Had a great visit with the endocrinologist. Holy cow, so different from the family doctor.

She will change my insulin in the future but right now I have a three month supply and I can't just throw it away. So once I am ready to reorder that will change from Novolin R to Novolog. She is also having me take one pill of the Januvia 50mg a day and she has upped the Lantus at 11pm to 50 units.

Today my fasting blood sugar was 119. I have not seen a number like that since Oct 2012 or even a bit earlier. I am so pleased and I can see that she will work with me until we get my dosages right! Love it.

One other thing I want to share in Nov. my A1C was 9. That's when the family doctor decided to change my medications On Wednesday it was 10.4 just once again proving my family doctor had no idea of how to treat me. Wish I had looked for an endocrinologist months, perhaps even years ago, lesson learn!

Thanks for the reminder about cinnamon. I'm sort of nervous because my doctor took me completely off of my Metformin last Tuesday! Other than one night after dinner and one morning, the blood sugars have been more low than high. One morning after riding my bike I went down to 62 and had trouble (with my shaky hands) finding something in the house that wasn't sugar-free! I had to buy some regular candy at the store after that!

I'm leaving home around 2 PM today, so I'll be there around 4:30 or 5:00, depending on how the roads are!

I called my dr yesterday and they are lowering my medication, taking me off one and lowering the other. I'm already off of insulin. Weight loss really does help. The thing is, my sugars go low a lot more.

Cinnamon really treats high blood sugar well! I took cinnamon capsules for a long time to control my highs better.

Hi Ann,
I think that sounds like a wise move, you have to have confidence in your doctor that they know enough about diabetes to help you in every way they can. Some family doctors just aren't that up on tyoe 2 diabetes. The funny thing is a few years ago I did just the opposite. I had an endocrinologist that I had trouble communicating with. The family doctor I go to has won awards for his diabetes and heart care and he and I discuss together a plan for my care. The final straw was the endo was always criticizing my weight and even said to me one time, "Have you ever considered bariatric surgery, because I just don't know what to do with you!?" Mind you, I was only 40 lbs. overweight! And between visits to him one time I lost 30 lbs. and he didn't even notice or comment on it! It was right there on my chart in front of him! That was the last time I went to him! My family doctor walked in the office Tuesday AM and the first thing out of his mouth was, " Wow, you're still losing weight, aren't you?" And he wanted to see how I would get along without my Metformin or at least lowering my dosage. I love that he discusses my care with me like I have a brain. I hope you find a doctor that you feel that way about too!
Good luck!
Marsha

@ Marsha, Thanks, I booked an appointment with an endocrinologist. (sp?) (my spell check did not pick it up) I am done with the family doctor, I think I need more help than they are able to give me. I will post how that goes!

FAIRYANNE3,

Good luck with the dosage change! It really is a balancing act isn't it? And just when you think you have things figured out, you get an off-the-wall number that has you shaking your head and wondering where the heck THAT came from!! I hope you get things figured out!

@ Copema, nice job hope you get the results you need from the doctor.

My levels are too high, doctor brought the level of Lantus to 40 at night to see if we can bring the day levels lower. Work in progress!

Because of my weight loss, my doctor took me off my Metformin to see how I do without it, It's only gone high one time and then it came back down to normal range quickly, but I really think I need to be on the Metformin, just at a lower dose. Stil haven't heard the results of the A1c that they did on Tuesday. I hope they're in the office tomorrow so I can see what he wants me to do. I would be happy to cut my dosage amount in half to 250 mg. in the morning and 250 mg. in the evening with dinner. I'd rather be able to have my numbers well-controlled with a small amount of medicine than to take no medicine, but not have my numbers under control. emoticon

I've found that when mine dips to around 90...I need to have a snack. It doesn't happen often enough tho!
My pre-dinner readings have been a lot better this week: 120, 139, 130....pretty steady. My goal is to get the PM carbs to an acceptable level and ride that for awhile.

Blessings to all who struggle with this issue...

I'd like to get my blood sugar low again like your's Beth. At one time I was doing so good. My blood sugar was 147 this morning. Still high but it is very good when I compare it to other high readings I've had.

I have been a diabetic for over ten years and have done well until early Nov. I have only been on insulin two months. No pills of any kind. My kidney numbers looked bad Nov 2012 so Metformin and Glyburide was stopped and I take two kinds of insulin Novolin on a sliding scale and Lantus 20 units @ 11pm.

My blood sugars are still not good. I do not see my doctor until the end of March. I am tired of not feeling heard and have booked an appointment with an endocrinologist on the 23rd of Jan.

I am still seeing blood sugars in the average of 240's fasting blood sugar.
During the day I am running 220's to 280.

My question is do you all think these are too high. ( my thinking, yes ) Because I see the endo on the 23rd should I wait and take direction from her. OR call the family doctor and see what see wants to do?

My blood sugar is in the 300s this morning. I''m limiting my breads and starchy foods. Definitely no sweets under any circumstances. I'll check it again later tonight and will give myself another shot of insulin if I have to.

I leave my kit on the dining room table and when I pour my first coffee in the am I check my sugars. I don't test every morning. Since losing 40 lbs I have gone off my novorapid, reduced my levemir from almost 40 units to 6 and very rarely have highs. I have lots of lows now due to exercise but I know when I'm having one and I have glucose tabs nearby (purse, bedroom, exercise area, front hallway.....) I still take 2000mg of metformin a day but that doesn't bother me as much as the insulin did :(

I found that once I lost enough weight to stop the daytime insulin I lost weight quicker-insulin makes it harder to lose weight-my endocrinologist says that diabetes on insulin is a vicious cycle because you need to use insulin but have to lose weight to get off of it and it makes you hold on to the weight more :{

Another way to remember to test is to set alarms (phone, kitchen timer, meter, watch)

I think I am maybe crazy, but I put the test kit on top of the coffee maker at bedtime, I carry a kit in my lunch bag and I have a kit in my teacher bag. They all use the same supplies, so I only have the one RX for supplies. I rarely forget the morning, but if lunch is different, I will test a couple hours later. Same before I order if we are eating out. My A1c has been all over the place this year. And I think I need a new battery for my scale, as it will sometimes vary by 10 pounds in 24 hours. That is not weight gained from eating, so if it is accurate, it has to be water.

I'm still taking 500 mg of Metformin twice a day. I'm curious to see what my A1c will be the next time I have it checked. I usually only check my blood sugar 2 or 3 times a week, mostly two hours after eating a meal, when it peaks after eating. Once or twice lately I have checked it first thing in the morning, just to see what my fasting blood sugar is. It's gone down around 20-30 points. The other time I've been checking it is when I feel "shaky" after exercising. YOW! The other morning it was 62 after riding my bike! Mine used to NEVER go that low, so now when it does, I really feel it -- I hate that feeling! I bought some candy to have in the house for when that happens again, (Everything I had was sugar-free!)
emoticon

I guess my plan is to get my A1c checked and talk to my doctor about lowering my dose of Metformin. I don't think I'll ever be able to go off of it completely, because I'm pretty close to my goal weight and I love my carbs -- the healthy kind -- too much to go off of them completely!

If you forget your fasting, a good time to take it again is 2 hours after you've eaten. When we monitor patients, that's the time we choose. It's a good marker to see how your body is metabolizing the food that you've just ingested.

Good plan to set your kit out so you remember, Beth!! emoticon
