I have been eating healthy since I came back to SP on 9/29/12 and I had hit a plateau. I took a 2 day break on Thursday and Friday and then went back to eating healthy and tracking. I am hoping that broke the plateau. I will weigh on Saturday.

I pray that for those who practice Thanksgiving day celebrations had a day full of warm family love, companionship, and happy moments!
I managed to keep everything in prospective calorie wise but my sugar levels were way out of control. The sad part is that I didn't have very much sweet deserts at all. Probably about a half cup of banana pudding total for both meals. Our DS and his family had a full TD meal and our oldest DD and her oldest DD had a full TD meal as well...... LOTS OF YUMMIES to choose from! I was very happy with myself after both meals. I knew from the beginning that I wanted potatoes and dressing so I planned my plate around both of those delightful selections. I stayed well within my calorie ranges and serving sizes but the carb counts played havoc on my sugar levels. It took me 2 day's to get them below 180 but I am chugging along very well now. I fear I see another raise in my Metformin on my next doctor appointment :(
Judy.... We have already told everyone that we plan to eat out next year. Like you, we will have to pay for everyone as well but with a plan ahead it should be do-able.....
Miller.... We moved our daughter and her family in this last week. I know how quickly your best laid plans can get completely way-laid. I am now trying to re-vamp my schedule and eating plans.....
Colleen and Bonnie.... I hope you are feeling better soon!
I got up early and sparked some. I wasn't feeling good the night before, didn't sleep well, and was sick by early morning. I waited until about 10 to call my Mom to say I wasn't coming then finished watching the Macy's parade. Then I went to bed.

It was a fair day only. I didn't go wild over the food, but I am not happy with the amount of food that I ate.

No, I did not fare well this Thanksgiving. "Friends started sending over "treats" that Tuesday and it just went on and on. Even though Thanksgiving dinner was eaten at my cousin's house, our house was filled with guests and all the treats people sent over - lemon cake, honey bun cake, cheesecake, potato pie, barbecue, etc.
I made a spinach and strawberry salad and a fruit salad to take to my cousin's house, but alas, I ended up eating too much dressing, turkey and pie. I just got back on track today, and I am determined to exercise more restraint and follow my plan for Christmas, even though the house will be filled with guests, including my grandchildren.

What strategies did you use over the Thanksgiving that were Healthy that will help you towards your goal of becoming healthier? For me I knew the foods and already worked out what and how much I could have. I tracked all the food on my phone so I had it right in the palm of my hand! lol
Will you do these things again over the Christmas Holiday? Yes for sure. I found it really easy so between my measuring cups, scale and my calculator I was with in my calorie range.
If not - have you learned anything? I am learning all the time, perhaps I am a bit better this year at Thanksgiving than I was last year but it is a very tentative hold at this point.
What strategies can you put in place to help get you through Christmas? I will do what I did for Thanksgiving, find out what food is being served and choose, do the maths before the meal. At meal time I will use portion control by my measuring cups etc. (I don't trust my eyes) and no seconds of starches or desserts!

Thanksgiving was wonderful. It was filled with fantastic food and good friends. Practiced moderation and it worked. Yes, I did have a few (very few) bites of some favorites. I brought a few Spark friendly dishes and enjoyed them without over indulging in calories or quantity.

I did pretty well. I stayed in my calorie range. I ate more veggies yesterday. But I still did ok today.

I am finding your answers very interesting - for several reasons - Firstly - we don't have Thanksgiving so its a different thing for me Second - the way many of you are approaching it - by going out!! I guess that is a win, win - no expensive shopping, no cooking, no stress, no left overs - no hips getting more on them, and with luck - a bit of extra exercise - walking to the restaurant/diner!! Ok - so a few of you blew it - then - get back onto your program NOW - not tomorrow, not when the left overs are done - but NOW!! No recriminations and no guilt - maybe a bit of extra exercise - but on program !!
Christmas - there is definitely no law that it has to be turkey, beef or pork, or any cooked meal with heaps of sides and heaps of left overs!! Actually in Australia its often seafood on the beach with salad (or round a pool somewhere )!! The cost of seafood here (and it goes up at Christmas owing to the shopkeepers greed as there is huge demand) we NEVER have left overs - so that fixes that!! That steak meal sounds good though!! My DH and I will have a Turkey Thigh Roast cooked in the crockpot the day before - with salad - left overs will be in his sandwiches - and fresh fruit for dessert.

I did great. I made plans with the family to eat out (I paid) that made everybody happy. We are all over weight so it was good for everyone. I had NO stress and NO left overs. I loved it. I started thinking about Christmas right away and started getting the house ready. I am going to do the same thing Christmas. i did miss the left overs, but they didn't go on my hips either. I am thinking about Christmas now. This is the best planning for my dieting that I have ever done. I think it is going to be that way from now on.

Colleen, I hope your pain goes away. If you have it when you eat, you might have acid reflux (GERD). Take care!
I didn't do well at Thanksgiving - went over my nutrition goals every day, but I've found myself doing that a LOT since my daughter had to take a leave of absence from college. It just sounds like an excuse, but it really knocked the motivation right out of me. I actually had my goal tied to her graduation and she won't graduate on time now. I don't know, I guess I just don't want to give up the extra food. It's my security blanket (I know, I know, it's a blanket that will eventually "smother" me.) Sometimes I feel I should just give up because I'm no longer making progress.
What I learned - I learned that next Thanksgiving I will go to a cafeteria with my family - we've already agreed on it. That way, I can choose one serving of each thing I want and have more control over my calorie intake. No cooking, no leftovers, no overeating - it's a win-win.
For Christmas Day, the cafeteria will be closed - so instead of cooking a turkey or ham and all those side dishes, I am going to have a very lean cut of steak on the grill. It's usually still warm enough where I live to grill out in December - if for some reason it rains or snows, I'll just cook it in the oven. We'll have steamed broccoli and maybe a baked potato. That is a meal that I find easy to not overeat. There's no law that says I have to have a ham or turkey at Christmas, right?

Well still having pain and not knowing what's going on yet I didn't have a choice lol had a piece of turkey, a roll and small piece of appetizer veggie pizza
Not really meaning to I really blew it. What do they say? The best laid plans? Yes I have learned my lesson and for Christmas my daughter is going to have it at her home and that will be much better.

No being the cook / hostess is a huge help. I do miss the left overs, though. Since I have been off. it will be a total of 4 days, I have been cooking healthy. Having more time, means I can devote more time to real healthy meals. Spending some time planning for the full week when I go back to work. Will be so busy until Christmas.

All my good intentions went right out the window when I sat down at the table.
