Well, I'm back. My DS is 9 months old this Friday, so time to try for #2. That said, I am breastfeeding, and AF has not returned yet (1X back at 3 months post partum). Baby tends to night nurse, which I think is keeping AF away...which normally would be great, but it prevents baby #2. If my body doesn't restart by itself by November, DS will be 1 and I won't be allowed to pump at work anymore, so I'm pretty sure that will get things going again. Hopefully. Regardless, we have entered the period of not trying to prevent getting pregnant. mid november, we will switch to actively trying to get pregnant. I'm still about 15 lbs above my pre pregnancy weight, so I'd like to get down a bit further. I'm also working on my savings account to cover Family Medical Leave time. With DS, I took 6 wks maternity leave and 6 wks FML. I would like to max out my FML time this time, which is 12 weeks, but it's entirely unpaid. That's like 3 months I need to be able to cover with no paycheck. Or maybe I'll do 10 wks FML and then take off every Wednesday for the next 10 weeks. That could be good too...

Haha, you may be lucky and only "need" one. But I'm telling you, once you see those two lines, you'll want to take a second... and a third... just to keep seeing it. I think I took a test about every day for the first week, just because it was so darn exciting to see the two lines!! emoticon

Funny thing is my husband only thinks I will need 1 pregnancy test. I'm thinking I will just put the 20 pack in my Amazon cart for our next order. I'm not trying yet, but I think it will be soon.

I'll have to buy some of those tests off of amazon. I spend WAY too much on digital tests lol. We aren't actively ttc yet, I'd like to lose a bit of weight before. I am SO glad to find this group!

I always like the First Response tests, but I'd say most tests are pretty accurate. Honestly, if you want to save some money, buy Wondfo test strips off Amazon. Tests can get really expensive, and I think you can get a 50 count package for less than $20. I always had very accurate results with them, without the guilt of throwing away $5-$10 per test. You can always buy a digital test if you want to confirm and see the actual words "Pregnant"

Thanks for the welcome! I just logged on today for the first time since that post and of course have yet to put in any effort to making changes. I'm off from work today so I hope to make a little progress today =) I'm hoping to do a yoga video and get to the store for some healthy options

Hi Everyone! I am new to the team! My husband and I got married last summer and our plan has always been to start TTC this August. Neither of us have children and so this whole thing is all very new to us. I have been on BC for years and for the past year or so I have been suppressing periods. I have interstitial cystitis and my doctor and I discovered this was a huge trigger for me. I don't have any weight to lose, but I do need to adopt some healthier habits before the baby comes. I hardly exercise and my eating habits are terrible. I really want to make some healthy changes before we try for a baby. I can't believe how quickly time has gone and August will be here before I know it!

Hi everyone! My name is Cheryl and I'm new to the group. My husband and I have one son who is 10yo and I've had baby fever for 5 or 6 years now. Our finances were in bad shape so we couldn't do anything about it :( But now we're in a great place as far as that's concerned, I've just gained A LOT of weight in the past 2 years. I currently weigh 192, which is the heaviest I've ever been except when I was pregnant with my son, when I got up to 197. I'm so ashamed that I let myself get this heavy. My hopes are that by July, I'll be down at least 20 lbs and I'll feel better about TTC. I'm really glad I found this team. I'm hoping I'll get some helpful tips and motivation!

Hi everyone!!! I am 30 years old, was just married this summer to my best friend of 12 years, together for 8. I also had a kidney transplant 2 years ago (1/26/12) and have put on more weight than I wanted to. I am 5'9" and if I could get down to 180, I would be okay with trying, but my "real" goal in 160. I know my kidney doctors want me to lose weight before we try...

We are both music teachers and would love to start TTC in September so I could take the end of the year and have the summer.

I have a kidney appointment in two weeks 3/14/14 and will be bringing it up for the first time. I have to change all my meds for 3 months before it is okay. They might want to change them in June, not now.

I'm nervous that they won't even talk about until I lose weight. My husband is on board with me, but he looses so easily! I hope that I can drop some. My first week was last and I lose 1.6 pounds. Good start, but I need to start exercising. I belong to a gym but haven't gone in a looong time.

Man, I guess I should have just wrote a blog instead!!! ;-)

~Amanda

My goals:
1) To be greener, eat cleaner, and exercise meaner!
2) Lead a healthy lifestyle to extend the life of my kidney transplant! 1/26/12
2) Lose weight so we can start thinking about starting a family! BABY FIT!!

I am also just getting off BC and starting to figuring out my cycle and tracking my temperature, cervical fluid, position and opening. Learning everything I can so we can TTC in about 3 months, as my doctor recommended letting my cycle get back to normal first, which takes about 3 months.

I posted on the welcome forum, but wanted to introduce myself here as well! My name is Megan and I worry that my weight will be a factor both in TTC and throughout pregnancy. I am currently at 215 and want to get down to 150 before we start trying. My husband and I have been married for 2 months now and we want to start TTC after our anniversary so I have 10 months to get it together. I'm so glad there is a resource out there for others going through the same thing!

I couldn't decide where to post! So, while I know that it's not going to happen for this month (Feb), so I can't exactly be a Feb Hopeful, I'm sort of prepping. I have ordered a basal thermometer and some other things to assist me. Mainly I'm trying to figure out what my cycle even is anymore. I was on BC for awhile and then it started getting wonky when I went off of it, then back on the BC, then surgery, now officially off of the BC and it's wonky again.

So while I am hopeful, I am going to be realistic and try not to get obsessive. I just want to enjoy the process and see what happens. I'm prepping by figuring myself out and eating healthier, while exercising.

Gwenn

We will be trying for our second child starting December 2014 or January 2015. I want to finish my schooling and that would put the baby due a few months after I graduate IF we got pregnant right away. Right now I am trying to lose weight and get my body into better condition so I am ready to go at the end of the year. I would like to lose 50 pounds this year and have good eating/exercising routines established before I am pregnant. Hopefully then I won't gain as much as I did the first time around (50 lbs).

I'm not TTC, but it's a major part of my future plans, but is still QUITE a ways off. I mean like 5-year plan kind of off. But I'm here mainly because wanting to have children is a MAJOR inspiration for me to be at my healthiest weight. I lost 30 pounds one year ago, and have been maintaining ever since. Recently, I decided that the weight where I was maintaining still isn't the sweet spot for me, and I am hoping to lose another 10-15 pounds in the next few months before maintaining again for a year. I'd like to find where my body is happiest, so that I can be my happiest me before starting a family. Nice to meet you all! Feel free to message me anytime if your goals sound similar!

My hubby and I aren't trying yet. We are not financially nor located where we want to be for a baby; but for me personally, i am very overweight for my height. I want to learn healthy choices now to teach our future baby the right way to interact with food. We both have baby colds, but now is a time more for me to prep and get healthy! I want to embrace the bump when i get it; i want people to notice!

5 lbs down, finally! I fell off the wagon a bit for a month and gained back a couple of pounds and this weekend I finally lost that back plus a pound! We are talking about when we want to start TCC - maybe in October/November so I would like to loose at least another 5 before then.

Hi everyone! I am also in this boat, of not TTC yet, but prepping. My boyfriend and I really want to get married and start having babies, but we have a few things to take care of first. We are finally starting to be in a really good place financially, after my boyfriend being unemployed for over a year, so that's definitely a good thing. Next up for me is losing 15-20 lbs and just being active and healthier in general. My boyfriend doesn't need to lose any weight (he has one of those really annoying metabolisms), but he could stand to be healthier when it comes to food and he needs to stop smoking. I'm hoping joining this board and seeing everyone else's achievements will help me stay motivated. Good luck!

Slow and steady, steady and slow. That's the way we always go!

Hey all!
My husband and I just got married a few weeks ago and we'd like to start TTC in about a year. I gained a bit of weight recently (wedding-stress-eating!) and would like to lose it again plus a bit more, not to mention get back into good habits before I have kids. I also want to be more active and eat a more varied diet so my body has all of the vitamins it needs.
We both want a baby sooo badly and the only thing stopping us from TTC now is our common sense. I need to finish my masters and get a job! If I get that together in a year, which I have every intention of doing, we'll be in a better place to take care of kids. I hope it works out, and I hope y'all have a *fun* trip to conception, too!

We are not TTC yet but sometime in the next year we are hoping. I've already lost about 50lbs with 10-15 more to go. I'm 27. We've been married for a couple of years and now that we have both gotten a lot healthier and more active, it's time to get our bank account in some condition for baby.

New to the board and found this. My fiance and I are not yet TTC, but will be in the next 5 or 6 months after we are married. We originally thought it would be 6 months to a year after the wedding but in June I had a ectopic pregnancy with an IUD and had to stop the growth. Thankfully we found out that I was pregnate at 4 weeks. After going through all that, we agreed that it is our time. So here I am, needing to lose at least 50 lbs to have the healthiest pregnacy I can!

I also have about 10-15 (maybe even 20) to lose before baby. I've signed up for a half-marathon, and am using that to motivate me to get the workouts in. I also would like to go to BodyPump (a goodlife fitness class) 2 x a week, but am having difficulty making it between work and life. What is your weight-loss strategy?

Hi all!

My name is Kim and I am 26 (almost 27) years old. My husband and I had been TTC for a year this month when I had a body analysis exam done. The body analysis gave me my weight, percentage of body fat, a visceral fat rating, and how hydrated I am. I thought I would literally hit the floor when I found out that 44% of my 193 lbs body was fat. Basically 60 lbs over weight.

After a few nights of crying and long talks, my husband and I decided to postpone TTC until I lost at least half of the weight... putting me at 160 lbs. I am currently proud to say that I am down 10 lbs with 20 more to go before we can start trying again! I hope that we can start the process again late this fall or early winter.

So excited today to get on the scale and see that I am below the 190 mark - just barely, but below none the less! Since this AF week I will take any amount of loss! I am so glad to be back in the 180s again even though that is just barely a start on what I plan to loose. After we got married I gained about 30 lbs in the first 6 months and had managed to hold steady at that weight for 2 years or so before I popped over the 190's and realized I needed to get motivated. Hoping that you are all doing well this week! emoticon Trying to remember to celebrate the small accomplishments as they can add up to something huge!

My husband and I just decided that we'll start TTC this fall. My #1 goal is to be a healthy weight before we try and I've got about 10 to 15 lbs to drop so I'm working to complete that in the next few months. I'm super excited (wish we didn't have to wait but being healthy as possible is important to me). This will be baby #1 and also gb #1 for my family. I'm spending a little time here and there reading about preconception health and welcome any small tips or support.

Hi ladies,

I was very active on this board until May 2012 when I got my first BFP. My son was born in January, and he is such a blessing. DH and I are really enjoying parenthood, and we know we want more children.

We were unlucky enough to have dealt with infertility in the past. I went two years without a period after going off BC, and once we finally got me ovulating on a regular basis, my husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Needless to say we feel very lucky to have fallen pregnant at all (4 years after we started TTC), so we are playing a little bit of Russian Roulette right now in the baby making department (i.e. no birth control of any sort.)

I haven't regained my cycle since giving birth, and I'm still exclusively nursing my son, so I don't expect to get it back in the very near future. We'll start DS on solids next month, and I've heard that women often start to cycle again once the baby starts solids and begins to nurse less often. I am definitely aware that it is still possible to get pregnant without regaining your cycle.

I also haven't regained my pre-pregnancy body, but I'm working on it. The scale isn't the problem. In fact, I'm only a few pounds from my pre-prego weight which I'm very proud of considering I gained 50 pounds, but my body is so different than it used to be. I have this definite pouch in front which is a mixture of extra skin and belly fat (don't get me started on how big my boobs are). I realize I may not lose this until I stop nursing, and I hope to continue nursing until DS is at least a year old, but I'm going to try my darndest to get rid of it without effecting my milk supply.

Anyway, good luck ladies! The TTC journey can be a long one, and I sometimes wonder why we would start it again, but then I look at DS, and it all becomes very clear. If you have questions about Clomid, Femara, RE's, OB's, acupuncture, yoga, herbs, and fertility diets, I swear I've tried them all, and I would be more than happy to tell you my experiences.

Edit: I've also done injectables and IUI's.

My husband and I want to start trying for another baby (#3) sometime in July (depending on my cycle). So at the moment I'm getting into gear - starting today with a complete health check!
Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Well, the consult has come and gone. And the result: we look like good candidates for IVF. Our doctor suggested what I thought she would suggest. Because of my husband's condition, we wouldn't do so well for IUI. And that's what we were planning for.

The estimate is $17K. Not bad I suppose. We're looking at ways to help defray the costs a bit (even just 5K would help us out immensely), after all, after having baby, we'll need to be able care for baby. That's pretty much all our savings, and we will still need money for necessities like a bed, and clothes.

We can approach this several ways: There are financing options, but my credit isn't all that good (read: "What's credit?") The only credit I have is through my husband, sad in this day and age. There are a few grants out there, and we have every intention of applying a few that we can (many are location specific, and sadly, none are in our location). There is a third option: home-grown fundraising. Getting the people in our church involved, having bake sales, and other things of that nature.

I think we're going to try the second option first. We may include a bit of the third. I'd hate to put another loan on my husband's shoulders when it's "his" car payment, and "his" mortgage.

Hello All! I am new here. I have a one year old and we are discussing trying for baby #2 in the next six months. I really want to get into shape and a healthier weight before baby 2. My first pregnancy was pretty uneventful but I had a long labor (29 hours), a long recovery, and high blood pressure following my son's birth. I would like to be in better shape for the hope of having a healthier, more energetic (I will have a toddler too this time) pregnancy and hopefully a shorter, less intense labor. So, wow! that was long, sorry. So my main goal is to get in shape and a healthier weight before TTC baby 2

Scheduled an infertility consultation at one of the best in the states, Emory. It's not until May, so plenty of time for my nerves to wreck havoc. But it's a step in the right direction.

Hello all!

We were just about to start ttc, but put things on a temporary hold since I just got a new job - yay! Since it impacts my benefits, we are going to wait a few months to take the goalie out of the net. I am VERY excited to be on my last few months of bc!

I agree that anticipation can help keep us motivated. Sometimes, when I really don't want to exercise, I picture myself holding a baby, and then I know it's worth it.

I'm sorry you've had a hard time off the pill! As if you needed any more stress or distractions while getting fit for baby, right?
I actually went the opposite way, and now have easier monthlies than what I had before starting bc... I guess we *are* all different.

I know what you mean about buying baby things - our TTC start date is just a couple of months away, and I pretty much want to start outfitting a full nursery... and I'm nowhere near pregnant yet!
But, you know? I think the anticipation can help us stay motivated and on track.

Best of luck!

That's great that you're getting off those meds. I've had panic attacks before, but nothing that led to me taking meds. Glad to hear you are doing so much better that you can get of it.

I read your sentence that in 9 more pounds you'd be getting off the meds as well. lol.

Thanks! I've been on anti-anxiety meds (effexor) for panic attacks.

I AM off of them as of yesterday though which is why I'm hopeful that we'll be trying to conceive soon!

Good luck Mirmium!

What kinds of meds are you (soon to be) getting off of?

Hopefully not long for us! 9 pounds until I'm out of the overweight range and I am officially off of my medication (a must for TTC) as of yesterday!

Trying to find a family doctor at present so I can do the whole prenatal check-up thing.

I can't help but feel super excited! This will be our first time trying to conceive :D :D :D

Just took another step towards TTC. We scheduled an appointment to see if he can father children.
So far we know this much: 1. I'm still overweight, but going down. 2. There does not seem to be any other problems with me besides PCOS. March 4th we're going to see if he can father children. Wish us all the luck in the world.

I'd love to know what's in that drink. I've been trying to quit coffee, I was successful for a while, but with stress, and no sleep for the past couple days, I'm living on coffee again. Also would like to know more about that Advocare-24.

MWILLMOTH- I've done the first part of the Advocare 24-day challenge. Its easy, you have tons of energy, and it works... the down side is you have to stay with it and permanently change your habits. My husband and i did it before our wedding and did our measurements before and at the 10 day mark.. at 10 days I had lost 5.8lbs and 8.9 inches through my body (that's without working out). We were just saying last week we wanted to do it again and actually follow through with the full 24 days (we stopped at 10.. well he stopped at 10 i tried the next ste but without him following and all the stress of the wedding i gave up). They have their Spark energy drink that we LOVED we still drink it daily lol. I was able to give up coffee with that and he gave up soda.

V/r,
Amanda Curtis

I have to say that when I went off bc my periods at first were quite heavy and horrible and then ended up somewhere inbetween wonderfully light bc periods and the god awful just-off-the-pill periods.

Maybe it will be that way for you too :)

I like the idea of cloth diapers as well. Seems like it would be better for baby. I actually looked into it a while ago and there are services you can get where they drop off the diaper inserts and pick up dirty ones once a week. Still works out to cheaper than buying disposables and it's supposedly tricky to wash the cloth diapers yourself.

We haven't gotten too crazy, but it has crossed my mind for cloth diapers as well.

I can totally relate to long periods with several days of pain. I've never been on bc so I have don't know how it would have affected me. But a regular period is something I've never seen. I'll be hoping that your's stays regular, it makes TTC so much easier, or so I hear.

I must admit that I've been tempted to start buying things like cloth diapers and fabric for burp cloths, swaddling blankets, etc. I have not yet given in.

This has been my first month off the pill (using other means of bc until we are ready to try to conceive) and good ole Aunt Flo is here. I must say, periods while on the pill were much nicer. This whole multi-day cramp and thing and heavier flow is for the birds. Sorry if that is TMI. Hoping someone can relate! I'd forgotten what this was like.

The good news is that my cycle seems to be regular already. Hoping it stays that way!

A keepsake like that is perfectly ok to buy ahead of time, I think. I would be scared to start buying a bunch of clothes and toys though, since those can be iffy with sizes and style. But I can't say it hasn't crossed my mind!
