Good luck, Anne! I hope you have fun, and that their mother can be a civil adult!
I think your stepson is very lucky to have you. Enjoy being the coach, you will have lots of hard work for yourself ahead, but I imagine a lot of fun too.
Be the adult, you can do it!

So, even though we originally decided that schedule wise and given the issues in dealing with the boys' mother, I'd wait until next year to be assistant coach on one of their soccer teams, turns out I'm going to be head coach on Brian's (the oldest) soccer team. First practice is Monday.
Jeff got an email yesterday afternoon that no one (at all - even an assistant) signed up to coach. No coach = no soccer for Brian. He's really athletic (cyclist) but isn't in to "sports" AT ALL. I played in middle school so I've at least got that and I do have experience working with kids (taught music lessons all through college and for a couple years after) so I'm the more logical choice between the two of us. We're going to cross our fingers that their mom acts like an adult on the weeks she has to bring them to games when she sees me coaching. Yes, we are going to let her know in advance. Well, he's going to let her know. And I'm going to try to figure out how in the world I'm going to fit this into my schedule. Argh!
