Lol, lol, no I am not, I'm a raging liberal so Dr. Laura is a little too right side for my thinking, but I guess on this one item we agree! And as I said, it's not as easy in real life, but it's true!

My aha moment was hearing weight loss put in such simple terms. Eat less, move more. It's that simple. In reality it takes a little more insight and work, but when you break it down to the least common denominator it's eat less move more...

my ah-ha was when i realized i actually COULD loose weight if i wanted to...it had never really seemed like an attainable goal before. i've always been big - so being fit was never something i considered as a reality.

I was recently reading an article in Men's Health magazine where the author talked about working with his Amish neighbor. From his observations he had realized that his work outs had always involved goals and after attaining the goal there was a lull and a new goal had to be created. While his Amish neighbor enjoyed good health because he found purpose in everything that he did, his life was his work out. I had an "a-ha" after that sunk in.

My recent aha moment was that this is really all about the math!

3500 cals = 1 lb

Want to lose 2 lbs a week? Then burn 7K calories off of my BMR level. Wow... I have been paying attention to that lately and it really does work!

Results Not Typical!

1/4/08 - 301 (HW)
2/1/08 - 278
3/7/08 - 261
4/8/08 - 251
5/2/08 - 245

My "aha" moments were when my autistic son asked me if I was having a baby, and when I did the math that I had 100 lbs to lose! I mean I still thought I only had to lose 90 lbs ha! but that extra 10 I put on after the holidays, making it an even 100 I have to lose made me say OH shoot what have I done!

Stay on your wagon, hang on for your dear life!

For me, my "Aha!" moment came when I realized that I was not on a diet ( although to many it looks like it) but rather that this is a lifestyle change for me. This is the way I wish to eat for the rest of my life and happily so.

I have always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I have to be more specific.

- Lily Tomlin, actress

Getting specific about your goals

Are your goals detailed enough for you to reach them? We all have aspirations and we are better off for having made them. But if your goals are too vague or unstructured, you'll find that attaining them is difficult. Wanting to lose 30 pounds is a wonderful goal, but it needs a plan to get you on the right track. These things don't happen overnight. Today, think about your goals and form a plan to achieve them. Write them down, chart your progress, refer to them as often as you need to stay on track, and most importantly, hold yourself accountable.

So who should I be talking to that you know who needs my skills?

i'm not a big dr. phil fan, but i watched it the other day when there was a show on resolutions, and of course losing weight was a topic, and something he said really stuck in my head...."either do what makes you fat, or do what makes you fit- every behavior has consequence". it seems so simple and common-sense, but it really hit home for me, and i think it to myself whenever i make food and activity choices.

Prayer for Strength and Wisdom

Grant me the strength from day to day
To bear what burdens come my way.
Grant me throughout this bright New Year
More to endure and less to fear.
Help me live that I may be
From spite and petty malice free.

Let me not bitterly complain
When cherished hopes of mine prove vain,
Or spoil with deeds of hate and rage
Some fair tomorrow's spotless page.
Lord, as the days shall come and go
In courage let me stronger grow.
...
Lord, as the New Year dawns today
Help me to put my faults away.
Let me be big in little things;
Grant me the joy which friendship brings.
Keep me from selfishness and spite;
Let me be wise in what is right.

A happy New Year! Grant that I
May bring no tear to any eye.
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a happy year.
--Edgar A. Guest

Something we were withholding made us weak, until we found it was ourselves.

- Robert Frost

Who is standing in your way?

Imagine someone regularly tying small weights around your ankles as you try to climb a mountain. Doesn't sound fair, does it? But that's exactly what you can do to yourself, a little bit at a time, if you don't watch out. When you think of who and what is standing in the way of your dreams, it's easy to forget your own responsibility. Even the best of us can be guilty of unknowingly hurting our own progress. Procrastination, lateness, being disorganized, pessimism, not being honest with yourself, severe self-criticism, downplaying achievements, focusing only on weaknesses while ignoring strengths, keeping goals a secret, demanding perfection, giving up after a small setback--these are all ways you can make it tough to be (and do) your best. Smart systems, the right attitude, and a promise to keep going no matter what will make a world of difference.

So who should I be talking to that you know who needs my skills?

To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it.

- Mother Teresa, missionary

Are you satisfied with the status quo?

While you work to be a spark for your loved ones, don't forget that your light is only as strong as the fuel you supply it with. That means food. Good food. Eating plenty and eating right keep that flame from dying out. When you're at the top of your game, your body uses up nutrients as fast as you can put them in. Starving yourself, even for a little while, takes your flame down a notch or two and is a very bad idea for your health. And without real nutritional value, junk food is just as useless as no food at all. A healthy, balanced diet is like a constant power boost for your pregnancy. Replenish your energy before you wear out, and your fire will burn brighter and brighter every day.

Blessed is he who speaks a kindness; thrice blessed is he who repeats it.

- Arabian proverb

Spreading goodwill that can return to you

This quote can be read in a few ways, and all of them are worth thinking about. First, complimenting and encouraging others is one of the easiest and most powerful ways to be a positive force in someone's life. As long as you're sincere, repeating that encouragement as often as possible can have effects that far outweigh the effort. Countless people have exceeded their own expectations just because others believed in them. Second, giving positive feedback works even better if done publicly. Take those kind words and repeat them until everyone knows the great things that this person is doing. Third, we've all had kindnesses bestowed on us in word and deed. In return for that favor, it's up to us to repeat that generosity for someone else's benefit. However you read this quote, the point is that there's a kindness out there to be performed. And you're just the person to do it!

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

- Louisa May Alcott, author

What would you do if you knew you wouldn't fail?

What would you do if you knew you could not fail? What kind of person would you be? What would at typical day look like? There's a reason that star-gazing provokes the most powerful dreams. They're right there for the taking, yet you can't touch them. Their distance only feeds an ability to inspire. Dreams may seem out of reach, but that's not the point of dreams. They're there to be felt, not touched or dissected. What a star is made of is meaningless to a moonlit dreamer. The epic possibilities are what are important. The payoff is not so much in the destination as it is in the journey. By following your dreams, you make their beauty a part of who you are. Your life begins to shine. You become a better person. By chasing that star, you've already captured its magic.

Love Alcott's quote

Friendship with oneself is all-important, because without it one cannot be friends with anyone else.

- Eleanor Roosevelt, human rights activist

Are you a good friend to yourself?

If you met yourself, would you want to stick around and talk? Are you the kind of person others can be proud of? Hopefully you are, because that's who will be with you for your entire life. Your values and beliefs create a pretty good picture of what you want to see in the mirror. To be proud of yourself, do everything you can to make real life look like that vision. Find people that have the qualities you want and learn from them. Becoming a person you like gives you the confidence that you're someone worth being friends with. There's also a flip side to the friendship coin--you also need to cut yourself as much slack as you do your friends. You have friends because you see the good in them, not the flaws. You like them the way they are, warts and all. You enjoy their company and root for them to be happy and do their best. Look at yourself the same way. To be a good friend to yourself, accept your blemishes, while still pushing yourself to reach your full potential. Don't harp on your weaknesses. Take another look in the mirror and be kinder this time.

**********Be good to yourself!!!!

Light o' the day: (otherwise known as an "Aha moment"!!!)

The last dejected effort often becomes the winning stroke.
- W.J. Camero

Persistence. Persistence. Persistence.

We keep hearing about how persistence is often the key to success. But what do you do when you've been striving for so long that it seems like your goal is never going to see light? How do you deal with the fear that you're about to fail? Simple. Give it just one more shot. And then one more. Think about the sweat and time you've committed already. You've come this far, you'd be unfair to yourself if you quit without a fight. Even if the odds are way out of your favor and you can't see how it can possibly help, reach out and take one last swing. You never know what will happen. Big, meaningful achievements don't just happen when everything goes your way. How many times have you seen tennis players make miraculous winning shots while lunging for a ball that seemed impossible to reach? Sometimes, you can find victory in the effort

keep it movin', movin'
