If you customize your workout, you'll find that there's a "step machine" included where you can get credit for your climbing. The machines don't have a DOWN function, as far as I know, but at least it counts for something! LOL And you can get an idea of how many calories you'll burn...

i count the stairs there are 18 steps with a landing at nine and everytime i go up i put a little marble in the glass and count them at the end of the day..most days i go up anywhere from 10 times to sometimes 22 and those are always round trips so they are 20 to 44 sets a day
that means i do between 270 to 792 sreps up and down a day..when i broke my leg and then broke my ankle it was a whole new things and it was up and down on my butt with my arms getting stronger there are no excuses acceptable for me to not do what is good for me no matter what since the pacemaker and the several months in the hospital and then no exercise until just recently put a blink in things but the computer is upstairs if i want to use it lol you can do it the lady mary

Most pedometers have to be vertical to calibrate. A belt pedometer will count your steps some if you set them up will even convert to miles but some days I walk shorter steps and other days like with DH longer steps so i gave up on that.
I am happiest when i can get in 15, 000 steps but using a stepper i know there are few steps recorded because my heel does not touch the ground.
In winter i use a treadmill and gazelle, The latter does not record steps accurately either so it important to keep track of time as well. Pat in Maine.
Pat in Maine. I FEEL Healthier every day with my Spark Tracker. I will do it slowly I like it that way. Toodle-ooo! and Toodle- Pip! JUST DO IT!
Be mindful that happiness isn't based on possessions, power, or prestige, but on relationships with people we love and respect.
Remember that while money talks, Friendships sing and laugh out loud.
I have a pedometer on my ipod nano, but I am concerned about not getting an accurate reading since I usually have it attached to my backpack. I guess I can but it either in my pocket (if I have any) or....Idk. I will try that tomorrow.
As for the stairs, I am going to need to see what the benefits are...I will google and if I find any useful info I will post it here, but I walk AT LEAST 5 set of stairs 2x a day.
Thank you all for your comments.

Good question about climbing stairs and monitoring the benefit. Does anybody know how to measure the benefit? I assume it is more beneficial than straight walking but have never seen any info on this. Google it. One never knows .

Perhaps the best way to track it is as walking (you will have to figure the pace) and total time. If you have a watch or phone with a stop watch, use it to keep track of all the time you spend walking when you are able to walk for at least 10 minutes at a time or more. At the end of the day then you can track your walking exercise minutes.
Hope that helps.

I am school full time MWF and I walk EVERYWHERE. I know I can track from where I get off mass transit to my first class, but what im wondering is how do I track the amount of stairs I am walking...do I count the stairs. How do I know how much I am actually "working out". I have noticed that I am not as out of breath as I was when I first started....but I want to track it. Am I making any sense its like midnight and I have had a long freaking day.
