Carbs are the big ticket item, however, you also need to stick to the ranges given for calories, fat and protein. The Spark program is good your RD has the final word. And drink your water and get 8 hours of sleep per night.

HI! Welcome aboard!...

I'm with Mary on this too, counting carbs for YEARS now... the only thing that really helps... and I also made the mistake of not eating enough--and certainly not of the right things. And that's JUST AS important as staying away from the wrong things--maybe more so! LOL

Stick with the team, try things, test test test... and all together now:

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!

LOL

"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." thanks, Walter P. Chrysler. I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But you don't have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steady, like a heartbeat... and that works too! LOL

Life comes in specific increments, which we receive as a gift of one moment at a time. That's why it's called

i have been counting carbs for about 10 years being diabetic since well before 1990 i think now..i dieted my entire life by restricting calories and exercising any way i could (at 378 pounds that was mostly in a chair) the one saving thing..has got to be spark people raise that 600-800 calories a day up to food levels like 1200-1600..my response i will big as a house my endo..(and best friend) you already are..lol i wasn't eating enough my whole life..and cut the fast food PLANNING IS EVERYTHING..eat to be healthy not THIN it is a mistake to think you can take off the pounds and go back to where you were..you can't and you won't want to..does that mean no more birthday cake (it had better not because i refuse to give up birthday parties and splenda cakes are awful..i would rather have a piece of real than fake anyday..on your journey learn to love the healthy food you encounter and not be waiting for the day when you are finally off this 'diet'..it's a way of life and totally wonderful for sure

I know each of us finds our own best diet using the advice from our doctors and dietitians with the help of our meters. For me I do best on South Beach combined with my meter and carb counting. .

you have lost over 200 pounds? that is amazing. I just confused on what diet I should follow. Do I just count carbs or do I need to count anything else to help me lose. My radiologist suggested this sight and I really love it. did you lose all your weight by counting carbs? emoticon

Welcome! I also count carbs and have for some 8 years now. Working great for me and I also weigh and measure what I eat. No problems here at home, but can be a challenge when eating out. Good luck with your own challenge.

me too!!! i count carbs and stay within the carb range the endo gave me most of the time..i have my slips but because i can adjust the insulin to cover those slips everything remains good and the a1c remains in the mid five range..of course i don't slip often but there are those times you get caught up with fun and it happens and i am able now to do it without guilt because i don't beat myself up and return to proper eating habits immediately not tomorrow or monday morning

Hello and welcome! Yes, 1 serving of carbs is 15 grams. I have used carb counting very successfully in managing my diabetes for the last 5 years.

Hi I am new to spark I would like to know when you track your food on the food tracker are the carbs by grams, so if the food you put in says 15 carbs does that mean 1 serving of carbs?
