Yep. Definitely don't take it, but call the pharmacist before you go to get another pill: some pharmacies have specific requirements about replacing "defective" goods, and you may have to return the bottle as well as the broken pill... especially if it wasn't your last one...

Thanks all- My gut was not to take it! Will take it back.....
You have been given some good advice. Check with the Pharmacist. My metformin er says take whole do not crush or cut.

Is it the XR though?? I was on both and the XR advised NOT to break or crush it.
I take met once a evening and have taken half a tab and it didn't bother me. I would ask you doctor or pharmacy person
Agree TOTALLY with the advice do NOT take it and bring it back to the pharmacist. They should replace it for you. But I wouldn't take it. ANY ER type pill is designed in layers to facilitate the extended release. If it's otherwise broken or crushed, the wayt it's released is not as it should be. Not worth the risk.
I wouldn't take it, as the dosage or release time might be affected. Take it to the Pharmacist, they should just replace it, as it was counted in your Rx.
Hi I just googled your question and here's what it says...
tablets must be swallowed whole and never broken, crushed, or chewed.
But...I still ask your pharmacist

Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.
I would check with a pharmacist. They should be able to tell you if you can take it or not.

There was a broken metformin ER pill in my prescription bottle this refill. Can you take the pill if it is broken or does that impact its ability to do the extended release????
