Oh well, I don't know that I'll be indulging in any Spanish coffee before the race anyway. Might have to find Huebers on another trip, though!

Gaye is write I got confuse on the names. They both start with an H! And that shows how often I've had one. Lets just say they don't go well with me, it's usually the guys I'm with that like them. I'm sure the Heathman has a nice one too, but I was thinking of Huebers.

BTW, Huebers, a very old Portland bar, is famous for their Spanish Coffees. They waiters make them tableside and put on quite the show. They also have great happy hour food.

Spanish coffee, hmm--never had it. Probably won't try it before the race either, but maybe I'll get a chance to watch them being made there!

I am EXCITED for this!

The heathman hotel is famous for their spanish coffees... Not that I am recommending them. They are cool to watch being made. They have never settled with me quite right.

Sounds like every one will be with in blocks of each other!

Gaye, thanks--that's what it looked like on the map, easily within walking distance of the start, plus it looks like a nice place to stay. SO looking forward to this!!

Of all the times for them to decide to sell--that is a bummer!

We finally got around to booking a hotel for Portland and will be staying at the Heathman Hotel (about a half mile from the start) on Saturday night. We talked about heading that way Friday night, but with having to work until 5 p.m., we wouldn't get in until late; didn't seem worthwhile to pay for an extra night there (plus pet care for our dog and cat) when we can get up and be down there early in the day on Saturday.

My aunt and uncle sold the house they've had outside of Portland for 35 years and I am now left "homeless" Sunday night through Wednesday. Trying to decide what I'll do with myself - whether I take a train south or north and spend a few nights somewhere else. Or rent a car and go out towards Hood River.

Either way I was not prepared for another couple hundred dollars of hotel stays. Ughh..

It's not a large hotel and not part of a chain that events prefer. It's an older motel type place that has undergone recent nicely done renovation. It is also right across from the waterfront and next to transit so a great spot

It looks like Hotel Fifty is very close to the waterfront start. Not sure why RnR isn't using it as a host hotel, but it is the most affordable option in that immediate area too.

Hey Tammy. I'm glad Gaye was able to answer your questions. While I do live in Portland, I really am not familiar with what hotels are available downtown so I'm no real help. I live further out near the airport.

Gaye is right, the transit system is very easy to navigate and use to get around.

Tammy, the Portland downtown area is pretty small and easy to get around. There is a Westin Hotel on Alder that is only a few blocks from the Hilton. A couple of our Hood to Coast runners stayed there and loved it. Also, we have a light rail system that goes right through downtown and over to the convention center. Takes maybe 10 minutes and is very easy to navigate.

Does anyone know where the best area to stay will be, in relation to the start/finish as well as the expo? I was looking at the hotels thru the race site and they say the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower is "just steps away from the start/finish" but the convention center (expo) appears to be across the river, about 2 miles away.

I'm looking for a Starwood property to share with Lynne (I hope we're still planning to do that!?) and there are a few to choose from... I'm thinking of either The Westin or the The Nines... if anyone is familiar with that area and can give me some feedback that would be great!

Thanks...

Tammy

Darn I spoke to soon about the prices - they went up - and it looks like things are filling up fast. I can only get the hotel I wanted for Saturday night (I was thinking of staying Sunday too to just check relax and check out the area.)

I'm going to e-mail my aunt who lives outside and see if I can stay with them during most of my trip. I guess I can get a rental car and explore that way.

Tammy, I will probably arrive Friday. It's definitely nice to have that extra day before the race! I'll be driving so I'll have a car.

Looking forward to meeting/seeing everyone!!

I live in Portland so I can't add much in the way of hotels and suggestions. If we (the hubby and I) can be of help with transportation from the airport, or hotel, etc., please let me know!

You're lucky to have family nearby...

Lynne, will you come in on Thurs, Fri or Sat? I think I'll try to arrive fri morn but if airfare is a lot less for Thurs night I'll bite the bullet for another night in a hotel. I like to do the expo on Fri and take it easy on Saturday. What about you?

I see they've posted a couple of hotels. Kind of funny that their special race rate is more expensive then what I found on a Hotels.com search for one of them. I have family in nearby Boring, so I'll probably be staying with them for the majority of my trip, and just staying the night before at a hotel near race start.

Tammy, I'm in! I'm guessing it will be at least 10,000 points a night if we end up downtown, so I'd love to share a room and split the "cost"!

Tammy, me too! I would prefer a Starwood property so that I can stay for points! My family stayed at a Westin downtown a couple of summers ago but we'll have to wait and see if it will be anywhere near the start or finish. I'm so excited!

OK, I need advice from you Oregonians! The race website doesn't yet say where the start and finish lines are, or the expo, so I don't know where to book a room! I do know, from other RnR events, that the close we get to the race, the harder it will be to get a good rate somewhere.

My preference is for a Starwood property (Four Points, Sheraton, Westin, W, etc) so that I can use at least some points to offset the cost... Any ideas?
