Been busy, but did manage to make a few recipes this last week.

Swiss Steak Gravy over Noodles p.217 This was soo easy and soo good! it tasted exactly like swiss steak and its served over cooked noodles - noodles were not cooked in the slow cooker per directions. I did add a little garlic to the pot before cooking, but other than that, I made it as directed. everyone loved it especially the meat loving males in the family. we gave it 4-5 stars.

Asian Pot Roast and Vegetables p.219. This was easy to put together. we thought it needed more garlic, more soy, and more asian taste (ginger?) I served it over brown rice. it was good, not exceptional although it has great potential if doctored up. we gave it 2-3 stars.

Maple Apple Crunch p.260
This hit the spot on a cold night. the topping was cooked to a light brown and fooled me for thinking it looked like it came out of the oven. the flavors were balanced just right for us with sweetness and spice. it was a little soupy, but everyone loved spooning the sauce, apples, and topping into their mouths. and it was the most quiet around here for a while since I can remember in the evening! we gave it 5 stars in flavor and 4 stars in texture (a little soupy.)

Great reviews!

I've tried so far,

Hawaiian Chili

I loved how low in calories it was really good. I've made it many times. Only once with pork, I personally thought with the pork it was a little bland, I like it best with turkey. I also add garlic to it. I think it goes super good with the pineapple bars from Across America book.

Nothing-to-It Chili

It was filling and easy to make, but not my favorite chili. I made Mammy's cornbread from Across America to go with it.

It was ok, in flavor a little bland, I thought it was better with some sugar free maple syrup drizzled over each serving and a sprinkle of salt. However, all that time in the slow cooker really washed out the colors and it was pretty ugly. However, I did use a big slow cooker, before I understood about using smaller ones (3 to 4 qt ones, I used a 6 qt). I have since bought a smaller cooker and it may come out better in it.

Vince and I both liked this a lot, and he requested me to make it many more times. However, I over did it while pregnant with Lela and wore myself out on it. It was so easy to make it was just a go to recipe.

However, to be honest, I did have a friend come to visit and she said she didn't like it, however, I believe that is because when it comes to other peoples cooking I have found her pretty critical, and she didn't like the idea I put canned tomato soup in it. She didn't like the idea of the soup being processed, yet she rarely cooks and mainly eats at friends houses and fast food. (a little hypocritical). My personal feelings on the matter, even though I love this friend like a aunt, I feel if she didn't know it had the canned tomato soup in it she would of liked it! Cause that same week I made a meatloaf, and she said she didn't like it cause I put ketchup on top, I informed her it was NOT ketchup but tomato sauce, then she said she liked it! That meatloaf was from A Potful. So......I have a feeling it was in her head about the tomato soup.

Any way, Vince and I liked it!

I hope everyone's slow cooker is bubbling away! This is a very good time of year for great one pot meals!

I have tried a few recipes and here are my reviews:

Creamy Steak Soup p.111 was delicious and filling. I did add a little garlic powder and substituted a can of green beans for the mixed veg, but other than that, I made it as written. It reminded me of a really good steakhouse, potato soup. Mushrooms, steak and potatoes! Even my son ate it and didn't pick at it and he says he doesn't like green beans. :-) we gave it 4 stars.

Spencer's Macaroni and Cheese with Hot Dogs p.238 didn't turn out very well. I used exact ingredients and exact cooking times and the mixture broke down and curdled even before the end of the cooking time. Maybe someone will have better luck than I did. We gave it 1 star for looks and texture, and 3 for flavor.

Italian Pork and Pasta p.223 was tonights meal and reminded us of pizza. So filling and good! I cooked it with cooked rotini pasta and although the pasta was better than placing it in uncooked (did that before, won't do that again) it was somewhat overdone. So the next time I make it I will add cooked pasta at the end. We did sprinkle a tad amount of parmesan on top of our bowls and it tasted as if we had put on a ton! I don't know how, but it brought out some flavor that was a cheesy one. Like I said, similar to pizza and very good. 5 stars! I served Tortoni Pie from 12-96 NL and it hit the Italian spot end of meal perfectly. Its a pistachio cream pie with garnishes of maraschino cherries and mini chocolate chips -all the flavors of spumoni. Even though the volume of the pie was less than most, it tasted very rich and we are stuffed! That is a 5 star for us as well.

Deluxe Potful of Recipes, was the first HE book I ever bought, it has all the potful recipes and a lot of another potful. I will have to come back with some of my reviews. I agree about the new slow cookers being so hot.

My cookbook is Deluxe Potful of Recipes and I know many from the original Potful recipes are in it. I have one of the newer Rival Crockpots that everything seems to boil, so I do have to cook the least amount of time the recipe states.

Cinnamon Applesauce was excellent when I had a bunch of apples that needed to be cooked up.

I did not care for the Cola Chicken. Rather tasteless to me. I know the members on the W W message board rave about it.

My DD and DH like the German Potato Salad. I thought it was o k.

Super Swiss Steak and Creamy Swiss Steak Pot are both excellent. I've made them several times. I generally add two extra 4 oz servings of cube steak and will have two extra freezer meals.

I really like the Fresh Tomato Basil Sauce. It is excellent on any turkey loaf or baked fish.

I made the Simple Spaghetti Sauce and renamed it Soup. I don't see any tomato paste in it, so it must have been very watery.
