Count me in. I have had The Joyful Table for probably 5 years, and have not used it once. This will be great.

Also, I was thinking about August, you said that you did not have one picked out yet for August. Maybe one that has lots of fruits and veggies cause of the harvesting being done in that month. Just a thought.

Ok, I'm going to add some post next with a few recipes I have found of Make a Joyful Table, for those with out the book.

I'm hoping that maybe Judy can add the links to her site, so that it will make it easier to find them later.

I emailed her today.

If I don't hear from her by next week, I'll make up some kind of index thread to link them all together! :)

YEAH Carolyn, I think this is going to be so much fun.

I'm working on getting all the links sent to Judy for her site, so people with out the book can still join us as well! :)

I'm thinking about seeing if we can't get a few more added as well, as Judy's site has a few that never had links, but maybe we can get some links for them too. :)

I was glad to read about the cooking book club. I'm on board. I joined a local weight loss group about four months ago. Then about two months ago my husband said why not stick to one diet. I have so many cookbooks I can't keep track of them. So we talked about it and decided to stick to the HE recipes which he and I both love. To make a long story short I have lost eight pounds altogether by using these recipes and counting points like Weight Watchers. This week I am sure I have lost again but I don't weigh myself between meetings. I just got the Make a Joyful Table for the holidays from Gina and can hardly wait to try some recipes from it. Thanks for this website. Carolyn

The stickies look great! I was hoping one of the splenda books would be in there somewhere. :)

For March, I will toss out Grandma Jo's Comfort Foods Made Healthy. I can't think of anything else for end of Winter/ start of Spring type book.

the book club is really coming along and it looks like we're in for some good reviews and activity!

Ok great! I'm glad you approve, and like it!

Vicki I did change the December to Baking with Splenda!

Also just to ease every one, we will be repeating books eventually. As I'm sure we would only have like 2 or 3 years we could really do with out repeating any way! lol We may alternate every December with Joyful Table and Baking with Splenda.

Ann, thanks for the info about ordering from abebooks.

Heather, the stickys look good. How about one of the Splenda books for December with all of the baking most people do that month and trying to keep the pounds off through the holidays? Just a thought. Your list looked good, too.

Heather, all your ideas are great. Good to do a little house cleaning on the web site too.

Coleen, when I first came to this SparkTeam I never understood where all the recipes were. Just didn't get it to click on the Main Page for each grouping.

Vicki, I have ordered 1/2 dozen books at a time from the www.abebook.com web site. There are at least 300 listed for $1.00 plus shipping. Ladies, they have over 1,000. of HE books listed. Prices start at $1.00 and go up from there. The newer the book the more expensive it will be. Each book I ordered was from a different books seller. You will pay postage for each book so it doesn't matter that you place one order from multiple sellers. Once in a while one your order won't be able so then try another seller All the books I have ordered have been in very good condition. A couple looked brand new and none had pages marked like I mark up my cook books. Once in a while one will have a library stamp in it.

Ok Girls, check out the first and second sticky in this Recipe forum and let me know what you think!

If you do not agree with any of the books chosen/listed just let me know and we'll figure something else out!

We also still need to choose books for-
March, May, August, and possible December for 2009. :)

Awe ok Vicki. Well I love you too! lol We need Vicki King on board too! lol I'll try to email her through the site, but if any one has her personal email address, please contact her.

Also if any one has Stephanie's email address I would love her to join us too!

I was thinking the same thing LeeAnn and Vicki a year in advance in November would give people plenty of time to get them as gifts or find them on sale!

I believe right now that HE has some for as little as 5 dollars each! It may be worth getting!

Ok, sorry I had to do laundry so I haven't been able to make the changes yet. I'm off to do that now!

Again if any one has any ideas for the months we don't have listed, let us know and we'll add them.

I'm thinking Fast, Cheap, and Easy for May, as May most people are soooooo busy, cause of weddings coming and people graduating, and school finishing up, and getting ready for vacations and the like. But, i's up to every one else. :)

Heather, no it wasn't me. Must have been the other Vicki K.

Forget who posted about the abebooks site, but I checked it out. WOW! Unbelievable how many JoAnna books are there (and some other books I have been thinking about getting). When you order from there if you order more than one book do you try to order all of them from the same shipper or doesn't it matter? Have you had any trouble with any of the shippers there? Just wondering. TIA!

Looking forward to getting started. I think listing the books a year ahead is a good idea and if we do it the beginning of November we can add any we don't have to our Christmas lists, like someone else said.

Picking the books way in advance would be great.. even if you could do like 6 months at a time that would be a big help. I figure I am going to add some of the books to my Christmas list so if I knew some of the ones we will be using then I can ask for those. I will also check out the websites too!

Ok I'm going to change the first sticky in this forum today. It will have all the faqs I know of so far for the Cooking club. Then we will have two other threads regarding the cooking club as well. You will see as we go how it evolves.

Also I wanted to ask, when we actually do start the cooking club, that the cooking club threads posts, stay on the topic of the recipes and book we are doing each month. If you have comments or questions that do not pertain to the recipes we are doing that month either make a new thread, or email me. That way the threads for the cooking club remain clean, and uncluttered and will be easier to read through later on, when we want to review them for other things.

Would love to have you LeeAnn, and remember if you don't have the book or can't get it. Check the Ruth Bond site and my recipe review site, you can always use the recipes that have been linked on either.

I was thinking maybe we should just have the whole year of 2009 books chosen this month, that way I can list them in a different post, that way any one who wants to join will know what months we are doing which books and can be prepared. Then in November 2009, we can choose for 2010 months books.

would it be appropriate for you to make an invitation in the yahoo group for the book club? I don't see why not since the HE forums are down. Just a thought for those that might want to join in the fun that aren't members of our spark team yet.

As for Vicki King, hmmm, you aren't the one who sent Lela a bathtub chair, are you? If so YEAH! lol I was wondering where she/you were all this time! But, I have a idea you aren't the same. Cause this other Vicki was active on the other board, and she had 3 young children, some on soccer teams.

Love all of the ideas here. Count me in! Have The books to start out but going to check out that web-site to see what they have for books. Just got Joyful Table and haven't even looked through it much so excited to start using it.

And LOL, I am Vicki K, too, and my daughter's last name is King. I know I always saw another Vicki that posted on the HE boards but I just mostly read there and didn't post much. I did participate in the email group though.

Thanks for suggesting this, Heather!

Thanks Ann, I'm glad you like the ideas, I do too! I just thought of them this morning. That way it won't be too hard to navigate through all those pages! And we will have the links all in ONE place! :)

Ann, yes I am going to remove those two threads from being stuck. I may put a link to the Ruth Bond site into a different thread. I'm thinking about editing the thread that explains what this forum is for, and putting in the link to the Ruth Bond site, and a link to the HE message board, as well as a link to my Recipe Review site.

In that thread I may also explain the book club for new members, as time goes on if we ever get new members it will have a explanation of what the book club is and how it works.

Colleen, a sticky means no matter what amount of time, or who post on one thread, what I "sticky" to the top won't move from the top, till I move it.

If you click for instance on Recipes that is beside the word FORUM here on this page. You will see there is three "stickies".

Heather, I love your ideas. Sure wish when we were typing all the recipes from the Ruth Bond site we had put each cookbook together as a separate thread by cookbook as you did for one.
Hind site is always great.

Why don't you remove the sticky from the newspaper web site I found. It has been at the top long enough. Also you might also remove one of the other recipe sticky's and just shorten with out all the comments so one gets the drift and the Ruth Bond site. Just a suggestion.

Anyone wanting to add to their cookbooks also check out www.abebooks.com. They have many sellers and lots of used HE books for $1.00. With postage it won't run you much more than $5.00 for a book. I have gotten at least 6 from that web site and all in excellent if not new condition.

Oh good Gail! Thanks! That will be great!

I of course thought of you as one of the friends I wanted to join too. But, I figured since you joined Spark you would be in on it! :)

I got to thinking during my walk this morning of some more ideas for this.

Here's what they are, they may seem complicated, so they are not and will not be requirements to be in the Book Club, it's just a idea.

I know that often times people want recipes for what ever we give good reviews to.

So I was thinking this...

If you try a recipe and it's already here on the site, or posted else where, use the ADD A LINK button at the top of the posting window and add a link to the recipe. OR you could also add the recipe to a separate thread (not in the thread with the book club) And then put the link to the recipe in the book club thread.

For instance, a typical post that I am talking about could look like this-

****************************************
************

I made the Coconut Lemon Layer Cream Cheese Pie-
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes
sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=1925x14777xR>15396843

I personally didn't care that much for it. Maybe it just wasn't what I was expecting, I don't know. But, there is so many other pies I love of JoAnna's I probably won't make this one again.

****************************************
*************

That's a real review from me, as I did try it and didn't care that much about it. But, any way, that's just a example of how you could link a recipe. I had already typed up the recipe a long time ago and it was already here on the site. But, you could type up one if it isn't. (but not required, only if you want to!) Or you could even type it up on a different site, or if jjg had already typed it up on the HE site you could also link it to there, where ever.

Then I will put another "sticky" thread up at the top of the Recipes Forum, and it will have a link to each Month's thread that we do the Book Club. This will make it fast and easy search for any one interested in either getting a review or recipe for each month's books. (for later on! Like maybe next year if we were to get a new member or something. Or sometimes I may even look through it to get new inspiration!).

The thread I make to make links for each of the threads would have NO comments on it. Just mine. It would be seperate then the Book Club thread-where every one will be wanted to comment on it! It will just be a post of links to each months book club threads so they don't get lost in the shuffle.

It would look something like this-

****************************************
*************

December 08-Book Club-Make A Joyful Table
Link to thread here

January 09-Book Club-Another Poful of Recipes
Link to thread here

February 09-Book Club-Heart Smart Book
Link to thread here
****************************************
*************

You won't have to worry about that thread, I will organize it and keep it all up. I may eventually make it alphabetical order, so it will be some what like Ruth Bonds site. But, that's just a example above.

So what do you think? Do you think that would work out?

I'm going to try it at first any way, and we can see how it goes. If you need help making a link I don't mind helping any one! And in fact would even help you over the phone if you needed it. :) It's really not hard at all.

But, again this will just be a suggestion for the Book Club members not a requirement. :)

I hope I still have good email addies and that they take me up on my invitation. I'm going to ask Joan (if she joins) to contact some of our other friends (I know she has more addies then I do).

Oh we will definitely go through them again, as long as this board-Spark Team stays this active. Maybe once a year or so.

Randy, I LOVE the ideas you tossed out, those are GREAT! I think perfect!

For going with seasonal I 100% agree with all the ones you chose. And October could be either Diabetes cookbook maybe 09 could be the newsletter Diabetic book, and 2010 could be the Diabetic Desserts! Cause October is Diabetes Awareness Month. We could rotate them every year. I hope we can keep the book club going active for a very long time. It actually lasted about 2 years on HE. So if we are diligent and maybe can even get some more members over here recruited maybe we can do it! I hope so at least! We still don't have as many members here as the old HE site. But maybe some day!

Remember to pass the word around every one! :) I know you do! :) I wish Vicki King was around as well, she was such a sweet heart and always active on the book clubs. And Isabelle too!

It's good to decide enough in advance which cookbook we'll use so we can get one if we don't have it. I have a lot of them but don't think I have Open Road. Last night I started tidying/reorganizing the pantry (where my cookbooks are) so I can easily look them over emoticon emoticon

All these suggestions are great! I never got the Open Road book because we aren't campers, but it would still have good recipes. I'll get it between now and June.

I'm not suggesting that we spend more than a month per cookbook, but maybe we could recycle these periodically, because I can't try all that I'd like in one month's time.

Thanks Heather. Its unfortunate I didn't know about the HE forums when it was active, so I am ignorant to how it was done. But you explained it well and I'm ready to start!

I think its a wonderful idea to keep the books seasonal. the only ideas I have for now is in April, Fast, Cheap, and Easy (tax time month) and perhaps in February, Heart Smart? September could be Kids (back to school), November could be Friends and Family and anytime would be good for the Splenda books. But I'm just tossing out suggestions to get the creative juices going. IMO, anytime is the right time for our dear JoAnna's books and recipes. :)

We would post as we go.

Once most people have signed in here and let me know. I will start a thread that will be sticky at the top of the Recipe Forum. And it will have the Month and Book listed in the Title of the Thread. For instance something like-

Book Club-December-Make a Joyful Table

Then for January it would say-
Book Club-January-Another Potful of Recipes

If some one has a better way to title the threads for the book club let me know.

Each months book club thread will remain sticky till the next month comes, then it will lose it's sticky and the next month will be stuck at the top.

It will go kind of how we did/do the Newsletter threads, just post in it as we go.

And yes, on the old HE board we always chose a month or so early so every one had a chance to get the book if they didn't have it! Also remember you can always use Judy's site to pick recipes since she has the site set up to go by books.

I agree, I was thinking Another Potful would be perfect for January as well!

Let us know what the rest of you think about January's being Another Potful. That way every one can be prepared.

December 1st, we will probably pick February's as well. So every one has plenty of time to get their books. I don't have any ideas for it! So if you have any suggestions let us know. I was thinking though June maybe could be Open Road cookbook since most will be thinking of vacations and such. And July maybe Cooking Healthy Across America. But, other then that I haven't thought much about which books.

I'm in! Joyful Table in December works for me.

Now when we cook in December, do we wait until the end of the month to give our reviews and feedback, or do we post as we go?

I have all the books, so this next thought wouldn't apply to me, but what about deciding the following month in advance so those that may need to order up a book have adequate time to order it? Not to be negative about the HE site, but its not the quickest to get books one orders from there. just a thought.

my preference would be for January is Another Potful, as we haven't heard much feedback from that one.

this is going to be so fun! I can't wait!

It sounds like most people agree we can start in December with the Joyful Table book. Unless more people join who don't want to do that, I guess we can do that.

If any one wants to join and doesn't have the Joyful Table Book it's on sale at Bookcloseouts.com for 4.99!

If you can't get it, let us know and we can consider something else.

I know what you mean Carole, I haven't tried many "new" recipes lately either, and it's about time I get to it!

I really enjoyed that too, Heather, and would love to join in. I need something to get me cooking again, so this would be great.

I'll go along with whatever you decide. I have the Joyful Table, so that would be fine with me.

I'm so glad you suggested this!

I have missed the cooking book club, too, and I'm interested!
I like the idea of starting in December with Make A Joyful Table.
Yay! emoticon

A few years ago on the old HE site, we had a Cooking Book Club. How it worked was each month we chose one book, and any one who wanted to join could cook as many or few of the recipes from that book as they wanted that month. They would come back and tell us which recipes they tried and what they liked or didn't like about them.

I would LOVE to start this up again.

First is any one else interested in this?

If so when would you like to start, December, or January?

If we do this which book would you like to start with?

My personal opinion is if we start in December, we should start with the Joyful Table book, and if we start in January we should start with one of the Potful books.

Please add if you want to join, when you would like to start and what book YOU would like the first month to start with.
