Gee, I hope so.

Let's be honest here. Nobody's going to convince the opposing "team" to let your team win.

Can we agree to stop picking each other's scabs? You people are disgusting!

But the very essence of Sarcasm is not "appropriate" That IS the point.... I too am a Christian, I have learned to develop VERY thick skin. Sometimes calling attention to a "problem" then becomes the problem, as you can see by how long this thread has become.

When the forum says ANYTHING GOES ...... pretty much means.... ANYTHING. Are we done now?

I have stayed out of this for the most part but your post leaves me wondering. Yes you found it inappropriate for this team. Does that mean it was inappropriate. No. It means you think it is. You slammed me for saying I didn't always find things offiensive when others did. I didn't feel that was appropriate and I didn't report you. Sometimes you have to look at something, say it isn't my taste and move on. You chose not to. If you don't like how your actions were percieved that is a consequence of your actions. Why do you have the right to decide for all of us what is good or bad. If the post was posted as offensive to homosexuals or muslims and that was an areI would find offensive easily, I wouldn't have read it. I would have made a choice not to take the chance to be offended. You made the choice to take the chance. It was posted in an area listed as jokes. The team is about sarcasm but not every post in the team has to be sacastic. I know I will have to think twice about everything I post because you may or may not feel it is subject appropriate. I have been part of a team where people report things as inappropriate just because the disagree with the subject matter. You appear to be one of those people I believe since I have to monitor my every word because you are judging them for report I will just remove myself from the team. I don't need you sitting in judgement of everything said.

Okay, I'm truly not trying to add fuel to the fire, but can we talk?

There is a big difference between the definition of humor, being offended, and what is appropriate.

I didn't report the orignal post because I'm a humorless Christian who is easily offended. The little button I pushed said, "Report as Inappopriate."

If any of us saw a posting that contained within the title "May offend 'Muslims'" or "May offend 'homosexuals'", every single one of us would agree that no matter how humorous the contents of the post was, we would find it inappropriate, and likely extremely offensive.

I wasn't offended by the contents of the post. On a Sarcastics Unlimited Team, I found it inappropriate. I'm not about to go looking for that same content on the teams mentioned where it is posted. Why? Because on those teams, it is (more or less) "appropriate."

Do you see what I'm saying?

My intent is not to attack anyone personally. It's really no fun to receive a chastisement. I've been there and I found it embarrassing, but once I thought through it, I understood WHY, the very essence of WHY, and then I got it.

Sure, we can agree to disagree on what is humorous - there will always be disagreement on that, right? And people won't agree on what is offensive and what is not. However, doing the best we can to agree on what is appropriate is important.

True that. We'll just agree to disagree with each other on what is considered humorous.

Thank you for editing this post. I read it before you made the edits, and I appreciate you not adding any more fuel to the fire by leaving it out there. Let's just move past this.

Well, by all means, Mookie, go get those clothes out of the dryer. We can't have you running around with wrinkles and looking all dissheveled.

And LYNNEBO1...you are one of a kind! Especially in this day and age. A person who 'owns up' and takes responsibility for one's own actions? Almost unheard of!

BTW, I don't think BUDDYSMYFRIEND was being Sarcastic when she said "Sorry." I'm with Chris...I don't think there are any mean-spirited members here.

Sarcasm is easily misread in print, as it can be when spoken. Sometimes things just "come out wrong."

As I OFTEN tell people I've offended, "Think about it" (my comment, or whatever) "and if it can be interpreted in a humorous way, that's how I meant it." I don't have a mean bone in my body, though I sometimes wish I did. Or is it just that I'm spineless, and easily intimidated? Not owning THAT!

LYNNEBO1 Well, that took some courage at least, to come forward... points for that.

I have been on this team for sometime, really don't think there are mean people here, just people that deal with BS from clueless idiots most days. I would like to think that this is a team that allows our fellow Sarcastic selves to blow off steam with out, our trying to figure out how "mean" they are trying to be. After all that is the POINT of Sarcasm.

Perhaps in the future the more sensitive of us will just let it go in the wind. As I find that is the fastest way for something to just disappear, by ignoring it. We all have things and people in our lives that are dear to us that might be the cause of thoughtless comments. I have a son who is in the gay lifestyle. I'm not particularly happy about it BUT, I LOVE my son. I hear all kinds of things and just let it go, wastes to much of my precious time. The best part is that his friends appreciate my Sarcasm, even when it is pointed at them! They still get the hug after all is said and done. I have made my peace with it.

The other plus is that we all "discussed" this with a fine sense of humor, and still had fun doing it. Lets move on and continue to have great fun, even if it is on someone else's dime.

I'm glad to be a co-leader of this fine team!

Chris.

Dear Fellow Team Members - I reported it. I totally appreciate sarcasm, and am far from easily offended, do not have a closed mind.

First of all, it wasn't sarcasm. Second, what is helpful about posting *anything" that is going to be offensive? Yes, people are way too sensitive these days, but this is an obviously contentious and polarizing issue. Throw the Bible into it and its misuse and it's a recipe for disaster.

How about some civil discourse or at least some respectable snark. Good humor doesn't have to play to the lowest common denominator.

I'm sorry if anyone is upset that I requested it be removed. I'm tired of the meanness that goes on too much and hoped that this team would at least be above that. I'm either wrong or there are teams where it can be done.

However, the best piece of sarcasm on this thread was "Sorry everyone." You go Buddyfriend.

Well BUDDYSMYFRIEND, I'm pretty sure you are not a Real Bigot.

Real ones don't really consider that what they say might offend others.

Take that as a failing grade on the bigotry-ometer. emoticon

could have also been someone lurking, not necessarily a team member, someone just cruising along and saw the post and BAM! Could have also been one of SP coaches.

some people just like their undies in a bunch.... there is no accounting for what people will do, when they get on their high horse.

That's exactly why I put the warning there, and you did the rational thing! But, perhaps some people just look for things that will get their knickers in a knot. What's interesting to me is that I know of this exact same post in two other teams here (no warnings) - and yet it was someone on the "Sarcastics Unlimited" team that took umbrage.

Oh well, what can I say? Some people are so narrow-minded that they can peek through a keyhole with both eyes...

Isn't it odd?

Warning this may offend YOU!

So if I don't want to be offended, guess what I do? Yeah, I don't read it!

In fact, I didn't read it because you said that it might offend some christians. I didn't want to be offended.

Apparently someone did take offence at my last post (about Dr Laura) and reported me, so the post has been removed and I have been scolded. Guess that "anything goes" isn't literal. I did post in the title that some may be offended. Oh well, that's the way it is sometimes, but it does want to bring out the sarcastic in me.
