I finished my first 10K in 1:04:07. I would have had to run it in 7 minutes less to have gotten a medal. I ran easily, but did not take any walking breaks other than at the water stations. If I do a HM, though, I definitely will do Galloway walk breaks.
It was only 35 degrees at the start, which is probably the second coldest day this year here in central Florida. I realize I had done absolutely NO training in cold weather. I usually run on the treadmill because there is child care for my granddaughter at my gym. When I ran outside, I'd wait for the weather to warm up on chilly days. If I'm going to race in cold weather, I need to train in cold weather! I didn't have the right clothes for the cold weather run either. I had read it would be a low of 43 and figured it would be at least 50 by 8am, but it wasn't. I had shorts and a short sleeve shirt. I ended up wearing a jacket, too, that wasn't meant for running.
Anyway, I finished and that is a success. I know I can do better in the future!
