Cherly - I am pleased that the meds are helping your daughter. It can sure make a difference in some kids' lives. I know it is not the answer for all, but they sure have their place.

Sam - very big sigh of relief! I'm glad that the results were positive ones.

The twins are fun and very different. One loves books and puzzles and has blonde hair, the other is very active on the go all the time with red hair. Plus they are 2 clothes sizes apart: 5 and 6x.

My 2nd mammogram looked ok. The technician says it is probably just due to breast tissue breaking down due to age. I am on a 6 month recall though to watch it. Sigh of relief.

I am glad the ADD meds are helping. I have seen it make a difference in some of my students.

Love, Sam

That is funny Sam because my sister buy my kids a ton of clothes as well especially my middle sis. She is not married and only had a couple of dogs so she really spoils my three. I bet having twins is really fun in seeing the differences between the two as they grow. I know with my oldest two being 14 months apart their height stays pretty close and their weight is about 10 pounds different. Since Mik has started the ADD med it has helped her get her weight back under control and lose to help her with the asthma. She is really doing very well with it I think. My oldest sister always buys Sarah the bibs about my aunt loves me or my aunt is the best. She always had found really cute ones for her. No wonder she is already rotten to the core but love her so much anyway.

The twins sound adorable! That's hilarious that you get credit even when you haven't gotten it for them.
I'm sure the Dora panties will be a big hit.

I hope I get to see the twins when I am in St Louis. They are 2 1/2 and very different. The one is so cute. I always buy them clothes. So when Lexie puts on a new outfit, she says, Aunt Sharon got me this." It's nice I get credit whether I bought it or not. emoticon I have things to take to them this trip too, including Dora panties.

I bet your daughter will enjoy collecting Easter eggs and the older ones will probably enjoy helping her. I can remember how much fun it was with a younger brother.

Easter will be so fun with your daughter!
She'll be walking soon I bet!

Sam - very good idea to wait before you worry. I once heard something about worry - it is useless. If there is something to worry about, worrying doesn't change it. If there turns out to be nothing to worry about, you've ruined your time worrying.

We get spring break the last week of March so it coincides with Holy Week before Easter this year.

I figure that is what she done with her elbow but she doesn't remember any of it. The lady told them the thing that made her stop was someone screaming. We are so thankful that she did or it would have been real bad.
As for sinuses I am having a hard time just getting mine to dry up. I have been coughing so hard that I have pulled some muscles in chest and stomach. I know it all the changes in the weather and just ready for spring.
This Thursday the 18th my baby girl will turn 9 months. I can hardly believe she is growing so much. She has her two bottom teeth and her hair has a pretty reddish cast to it. Looking forward to Easter egg hunting with her.
Sam have a safe trip getting to see your son and have a good spring break as well. CJ does your kids get spring break?

Have a good one all.

As I was told- don't be worried until there is something to worry about.

A friend of mine fell with her grandbaby quite awhile ago. She protected the baby, but shattered bones in her arm..Ended up with pins and plates. I hope things are better for your cousin.

I know how you feel about the sinus thing. Mine have been draining for months now - this crazy weather!

I get to see my son next weekend. He will be nearby so we're going to see him for the weekend.

Hope things are ok with everyone else.

Sorry to hear are not going well, ladies.

That's good that the baby wasn't hurt, Cherly, but too bad about your cousin. I hope she gets better soon. And I hope you sinus worries get better as well, and the weather stays nice for you.

Sam - all the best with the follow up. I'll be praying for you. Let us know how it goes.

The kids spring break is also starting on the 22nd of March. This next week I have to go and get report cards for them. My cousin has had a rough time of it her lately because she was walking into our Walmart here with her granddaughter and someone backed out of a handicapped stop and hit them. Luckily the baby was ok but Sherry tore up her elbow pretty bad inside with some torn muscles but no break thank goodness. She also scratched up her knee as well and she is like me with both knees being bad to go out of place too. Seems like the knees are our biggest problems in my family.

I too have not been doing very well. My knee is not solid, so that isn't helping. I get an MRI next week, then a follow up with the ortho doctor. See what happens next, probably a scope....

I am thankful all the really cold weather is gone. My spring break is only 5 days away.

Boy ladies I really am struggling with getting things motivated once again because of staying so busy with kids. I also have been coughing and having sinus problems too along with Sarah. At least our temps around here are staying a little warmer now so that is helping about me getting out and swinging with Sarah. She really loves her Little Tikes swing we bought her. I hope you all have a good weekend.

Oh my. That's a lot of snow. All the best as you dig out of all that!

We've been getting warmer-than-normal temps but not much snow to speak off. The slick snow gets walked across so much, though, and the temps are mild, so it slightly melts, and then it freezes as soon as it cools off at night again. The walking is getting tricky!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hope no one is snowed in. We got a huge snow yesterday. We have over 16 inches on the ground. May venture out in the neighborhood this afternoon. We've missed 5 days of school in the past 2 weeks.

Yes they have. I am ready for them to go back so they won't have to go so long at the end of the year. I started Mikayla on an ADD med today and so far all is going well and I really hope this will help her with focusing. Very nervous with her on it but if it helps her I am willing to try.

I was able to get in a 2 mile Leslie dvd today and hope to continue each day. I got my son to do some of it with me so maybe it will help us both. Well I am off to bed now and have a great night.

I can't say that I am motivated to read the book. It is really pretty sad. I felt like it was an unhappy young woman who was trying to find herself through lovers, who got caught up in financial woes.

No snow day for us. The kids actually got out for noon recess and I went our with them for afternoon recess... emoticon

My son doesn't have to go to work tomorrow, because of the snow in Virginia Beach. He says that it's solar snow removal. They're just not prepared for that.

No, I don't get reimbursed, although some of it comes off my taxes. I used to spend a lot of money on crafts, now it goes to school.... emoticon

It's still pretty cold here, but the roads have all been cleared, and the sidewalks, so we can get around at least.

It's amazing how much it adds up, isn't it, Sam? Do you get reimbursed for that?

Cherly-
You certainly were up early. I slept in until 9:30, then got ready for church. After church I went to lunch with my friend & grocery shopping. I just finished adding up my classroom expenses. It is always interesting to see how much I spend on books, paper, pencils, gifts for students, etc. It was a little over $1400.

I am so sorry that the kids weren't able to enjoy the snow. The snow bypassed us, but we got colder weather. On the upside we had SUNSHINE again today. It certainly lifts my spirit. Not sure I could live in the northern part of Alaska or Canada.

Catch ya' all later.

Did pretty good getting the snow off but had some kids from up the road who wanted to show off in their big four wheel drive trucks and they ended up sliding off in a ditch and brother in law had to pull them out. You think they would have learned the first time but no had to come back and play more. I didn't want the kids outside because with the ice that was under the snow afraid they would go and get themselves hurt let alone my kids as well so I had to make them come in. Maybe today the sun will melt some of the snow but I don't see the kids even going to school on Monday. Well I think I will head back to bed now since for some reason I decided to wake up this early. Need to have the head examined I believe or just craving for the quiet time. Have a good one and will check in later.

Sometimes doing very little is the best day ever!

Cherly - good luck with the snow.

Sam - your son was probably very wise. Even here, when we have snow on the ground most of winter, as soon as it snows again, people 'forget' how to drive and the fender benders start adding up!

I had a good day doing very little. It is so cold out that I just didn't want to go anywhere. I talked to my son, and they have snow in Virginia Beach. He stayed home. He said he didn't want to go out on the roads with people who weren't used to driving on snow. lol

I'll be getting out tomoorw - grocery day.

Well for me the morning started off cold. Its super windy here with about 6 or 7 inches of snow on the ground from yesterday. We haven't had this much snow in a few years so it's something new for around here. I had to get out and shovel off the sidewalk to get to the van so I got my workout in for the day. Hey Sam!
Good for you for tackling a sorting and cleaning job!
It is often a lot of work, but the feeling of accomplishment afterward is tremendous!

I get a new EAL (English as an additional language) student on Monday. I'm looking forward to that! Term starts anew then, as well, so it is back to our regular schedule after a week and a half with the 8-12s having exams, study hall supervision for me, etc.

My dh took me out for lunch today for my birthday yesterday. It was lovely!

After work I did chores and things, but dh fell asleep early. I crawled into bed to give him a cuddle and I fell asleep too. I just woke up about 3 in the morning, and now don't feel sleepy. Good time to catch up on my spark emails!

I hope you have a great weekend. I'm looking forward to sleeping in a bit tomorrow. I hope to get to the post office then noon dance class. Who knows after that.

I have been doing some decluttering of my office. It has been my dumping room, so I am looking forward to cleaning it out. I got my son's closet cleaned out, so my hubby can move his "stuff" in there, then I may have some more room to put things away!

Nothing much new here. Catch ya all later.

Hello ladies and boy I am dragging today. It started off warmer here then came the cold north wind and now we are back to cold again. I was able to get through my kids summer clothes and clean out what they couldn't wear anymore and gave them away. I also went through Sarah things she couldn't wear and gave them to a girl who is pregnant with no father to help her and she has no money so I was able to give her Sarah's infant seat since she has outgrown it along with her swing and a little bed she can put in the bed beside her. I also gave her tons of clothes little one has outgrown as well so I hope she won't have to buy anything. It is our preachers wife's niece so I was glad to help her out. That helped me get a ton of spring cleaning done so I am happy. Tomorrow will be my laundry day and cleaning up my house after the disasters of my kids all weekend. Fun Fun!! Have a great week and hope the kids aren't to bad Sam.

CJ,

No I haven't gone the Rx route yet. I did like the fact that they did an imprint of your foot to see which should work best.

I'm not sure I am affected by SAD, since I am on medication for anxiety. (It is also used for depression) I do like the color of the light. It only simulates sunlight. I don't think it actually gives off the same type of light, since it is florescent.

I need to get on the treadmill regularly again. I have a feeling that would help me.

How is everyone else doing?

You're welcome, Sam.
That lightbulb should help alleviate the S.A.D. symptoms if you get them (Seasonal Affective Disorder). We're supposed to be getting sun soon, I think.

I hope the new supports help. Have you ever gotten a prescription for them, and go to an orthotics person? Those helped me out tremendously!

CJ - Thanks for spreading some sunshine my way. I bought a lightbulb that simulates daylight. I put it in the lamp next to where I sit....

Well, I bought arch supports from Good Feet today. They were expensive, but I am hoping they will help keep my knee in alignment. The less expensive ones I bought didn't work...

Same here as well and I have the lovely headache to go with it today. It goes from warm to cold here within just a day so most of my family is sick. It's sad when the doctors office knows me by my first name because I visit it so much.

I don't know about you all - but I could use some sunshine. It has been overcast the better part of a month with very few sunny days. I don't mind cold, if there is some sun to go with it. I'm thinking of getting one of those full spectrum lights to put beside my chair. Maybe that will help. At least tomorrow is Friday.

Most of the homeschooled kids around here know more than the ones in public schools. I know that is why Christopher is picked on so much as school because he gets better grades. I guess for me I am really upset with our school on how they done my daughter with her dyslexia and they still are putting her off and there is nothing I can do. I have been told by previous teachers who have retired that the school will do nothing to help these kids so I have no respect for the school. It's no different at others schools in this area as well because I have a friend who's child is just like mine going to another school and she got told the same thing I did. Some changes need to be made that's for sure and if they don't get Mikayla the help she needs I may not have a choice but to homeschool.

Heehee. I have to giggle because I know you are a teacher and you sound just like my dh (teacher) and my friends (teachers)! I have some friends and acquaintances who homeschool. I cringe sometimes and bite my tongue as some teach from curriculum and avail themselves of available resources (even getting tests from friends or neighbouring schools, etc.) but others tend to 'unschool', wherein there doesn't seem to be much teaching going on. I just hope they know what they're doing!

I am also not anti private schools either. My husband went to one from first grade to college graduation. I agree we need both. They offer different things for different children and families. Plus what is one of the first things families look at when buying a house? I have to admit that I think charter schools and homeschoolers should have to take the same state tests as all of the rest of us do. If they are not doing a good job then something else needs to be done for the children, same as is expected of public schools. If we are truly looking at what is best for our children.

Oh man. (I think this thread should be for whatever you wish to talk about, by the way)
I send my kids to private school and work at one, but I am definitely against cutting funding to public school! The children can't all go to private and they can't all go to public. Both need to be running well!

I am in a team challenge for the Lap band team.

I did well on the weight loss for week 1: 5 pounds... I'm pumped now.

We were in school today, but not a make up day - just a regular day. I am headed to the state capitol tomorrow afternoon to try to convince legislators that they need to NOT cut education. Our general fund got cut by 10%. We are looking at cutting programs & staff.

Are you in the monthly challenge, Sam? You could use those goals in it and get 5 points per day every time you do it.

I am trying to work on one goal a week, then add a new one the next week.
Week 1 track my food and watch my calories
Week 2 Wear pedometer to raise my awareness on my activity level - shooting for 10,000 steps
This week: Get 7-8 hours of sleep a night (my normal is 6)

So this week I am working on all 3. I've been doing well so far. I'm making better food choices to keep my calories in or at least close to my range.

If I do too much at once, I end up overwhelmed. Right now things are going well. The sleep thing will be harder for me than it may sound.

Cherly, I am on meds for anxiety and PMS symptoms. They really help me stay in control of my emotions especially at high stress times.

I know arthritis is part of the problem with many people's knees, but extra weight also is hard on them. Just one more reason to lose some. It certainly seems a vicious circle though. You need to exercise to lose weight, but it's hard to exercise when you carry extra weight!!!

I agree knowing you are all here and working toward the same goals really helps me. Even though I haven't been working very hard this past year to lose. I managed to keep my weight under control. I think that is the strength of the Spark community.

I'm glad you got some exercise in, Cherly, even though it was a struggle. Sorry to hear that your knees are troubling you as well. That's the ailment of the website, I think. So many people on my other teams have the same ailment.

I'm so pleased for you that your meds help you to keep your cool. My SIL said that as well, when she was on antidepressants, it sure helped in that department! The kids still act the same, but our reaction is different.

I have started having alot of muscle aches since I started this new antidepressant. This week I forced myself to do the exercise I did and hope if I keep doing that I can work it out and still continue the med but if not I will have to find something else.
CJ it seems like kids really know when to push those buttons as well or at least mine does. Every time you ask him to do something you always get some smart remark in return. I have been doing better with the med in keeping the cool though.
Sam my knees are about as bad. My left one is completely messed up and the right isn't much better. When a change in the weather comes they hurt due to arthritis. Maybe we can all get back into this together.

emoticon on the streaks and the feeling good about your progress!

When I first started this journey, I began with exercising. That is the first thing I can do, with seeming little effort and get and keep a streak going. Like you, as soon as I add some calorie restrictions, I lose. It is very motivating, you're right!

Sorry about your knee hindering your efforts, though. That's a bummer. And yes, I know what you mean about others being worse off (one look at the news will give us that, right?), but it doesn't lessen your own discomfort and pain at the moment. Just makes us feel a bit guilty. I did something to my back this week, pulled a muscle or something. It's not debilitating by any means, but it is sure annoying when I want to work out (or bend or stretch, etc.).

I hope things are looked at for you in a speedy fashion and things go swimmingly from there!

Take care.

CJ I know what you mean about just floating at times. I find that doing regular exercise keeps me motivated. I am also lucky that when I cut calories the scale shows progress quickly, so that is the motivation to keep at it.

I just have to keep with a well rounded program. I know that my knee is not helping me any. It limits what I can do. I will see the doctor again, but want the weather to be better. He agreed to give me time to see if it would heal on its own, but it's not. I will have to have it scoped after an MRI.

I am NOT complaining, because I am fully aware that others have many more challenges than I do. This is minor. It's just my reality... It is hindering my dancing which bums me out some, since I can;t dance as much with my hubby. We're doing some, because they don't bother me as much. I just don;t want to do any further damage before it can be "fixed".

Feeling pretty good right now about weight loss progress. One streak at a time.

Ugh. Button pushing. I know what you mean. There's some kids at school who, when I have about one nerve left, just step right on it. And they know it too!

Not to mention my almost-14 year old son. He's been doing some major button pressing himself!

Motivation is such a weird thing, isn't it? One minute you feel like you have a boatload, then phfftt, it seems like it's gone.

For me, I know I need to feel it. I need to be ready to feel it. For almost a year I 'floated' and then I decided that if I was going to do this, it had to be now.

I will pray that you guys can find your own motivation as well. I feel great now that I've been working at this thing again (finally!).

Have you checked out any motivation articles here on sparks? There might be one or two that do the trick for you.

Thanks from me, too, Cherly for starting the thread.

Great new place for your son, Sam. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I was only half-hearted for quite a few months myself, Sam, but now am motivated. We have a great challenge in my Harry Potter Team called 'Last Witch Standing' and I sure don't want to be kicked out of this extra challenge by having a gain at the end of each week! It is sure helping to motivate me.

I am so glad that you started a new chat....

I too had not been at all motivated for almost a year now. I have tried to keep going, but only half-heartedly.

I have done much better the past 2 weeks. Started just tracking my food last week and being mindful of what I was eating to get the routine going. His week is going pretty well, and the scale is rewarding me.

I was really busy over the holidays. We moved our son to Virginia Beach. Since he wasn't getting reimbursed, we did the Uhaul thing. He starts his job next week. I feel better having been able to get his apartment decorated and the pantry shelves partially restocked. I guess even if they are grown, we still want to mother them.

If you are interested in pictures, here they are. Please don't feel obligated. You won;t see any pictures of me, I was on the other side of the lens.
