It is time to revive this thread!

I have added a new dimension to what I do: I arranged for a dance instructor 2 hours every other week! :)

My goal this week is to get back on the fitness wagon. Last week was a required rest week but getting back in the habit can be a challenge. Here I go.

If you are staying within the recommended calorie range, I would try cutting some of all that cardio maybe in half (15 mins 6x a week) and increase the intensity to close to your max. And I would add weight lifting.

Good Luck

I'm really dissappointed with my weight loss this month. I do 6 days, 30 minutes a day,of cardio and I only lost 3 lbs. I guess it is at least a loss, but I'm not doing as well as I hoped I would.

My routine now is 3 days of strength training per week. I change them every month. I walk for 75-90 minutes a day, 5-6 days a week. That usually equals between 5 - 5.5 miles a day.

On my way to a whole new happy, healthy, fit ME!!!

I just joined Lifetime fitness and started using the Elliptical trainer. When I started about 3 weeks ago I could only stay on it for about 10 minutes. But,now I'm up to 35 minutes and still able to do some strength training as well!

Hi everyone! What are we all doing for fitness?

I'm going to start swimming again, myself. Today I meet with the personal trainer again but I really need to step up with cardio.

So...what are we all doing for fitness these young summer days? Outside much?

I just finished my last session with a personal trainer. I'd highly recommend it!
My workouts were in a rut and now I see the benefits of some good cross training and variety! Lots of mobility/stability and core involved movements. You might feel silly out of your comfort zone but it's all good. Today I even got some boxing in... beats just running endlessly on a treadmill.

I like your style, Shadow. I hate, hate spending time on the dreadmill. I can put in the time, but there is nothing entertaining enough to make me want to. I like to hop on, go, go, go, and hop off. Oh, and yep, I began with the Spark Your Way to 5K plan. Much like you outlined, it works.

Do you really need a hour of cardio?
If you have the time and inclination to spend an hour running then fine have fun but interval training is just as good if not better (imho)...

warm up at least 5 min lightly doing whatever activity that you want that gets your heart pumping then push your self really hard for a minute then go back to doing it lightly for 2 min (or longer if need be) and repeat 5x (i.e. 5 minutes of pushing hard) then cool down for 5 min and stretch for 5 min equals about a half and hour or less as you improve you cut down the resting time...

it is good for any level... if you are really out of shape you can do something low impact like cycling and only push for 30 secs or if you are hard core athletic you can do wind sprints

I tend to think about runners as an analogy... long distance runners may be skinny but they don't look healthy.. on the other hand, sprinters are ripped!

Hello all, I was very active this week. After years of not playing tennis, I have found a tennis partner! We played tennis three times this week (1.5-2 hours each time) and have made arrangements to meet again three times next week. I cannot wait until weigh-in on Monday to see if there are any results from all of my physical activity!

Free tips?

Sure:

Remember, the longer you warm up the better you will perform.

Also, remember, to lose weight you must step up in your minutes of cardio. 45-60 each session. However, you need not run or do strenuous cardio (if you can't).

Weight training (aka, strength training)
Weight training will boost metabolism. I know you've heard it all before, but it's TRUE. If you want to start burning up calories faster, then reset your metabolism to a higher rate! Add weights 3 times per week! Go to your gym and stop being shy!

Weight training will improve metabolism so that over time you will be burning at a faster rate even while resting. (ever notice how much weight trainers EAT/Get away with?)
I know you don't necessarily want to LOOK like a gym rat, but you CAN improve your routine quickly by adding weights. You will require more food (smart, healthy now!)... but you'll be burning the fat away....

6 meals a day!- Add those two healthy snacks.
My faves are apples and protein shakes. 6 meals keeps you burning fuel and ramps up that metabolism.

Water- BEFROE, AFTER, and DURING your workout. NEVER dehydrate!

Alternated upper and lower body days (unless you missed any on eof the days)... You need time to REST and recover those muscles. Alter days.

I think Ab work is okay everyday :)

That's it for the week! emoticon

I think many of my friends out here wasted no time to step up after Christmas.

Why wait?

I just spent the entire morning preparing my meals for the week. I love and prefer cooking on Sundays and let that slip away for a bit.

Now I'm off to the treadmill, then onward to thelist of chores. I don't have my son until tomorrow and I'm going full force on that 'todo' list.

:)

Spread the spark, baby. No stealing...simply spreadin it! (where did ya use it, btw?)

Hey,

I need me a T-shirt saying 'I Survived the Holidays'! Oh, wait, better make sure I get past New Years or that would be quite a waste of money. Gosh, love holidays, however, will be glad to see them over. Just way too many in a short period of time.

January ('cept I already started) will be my month to kick up my jogging. Need to alternate between a little longer & a little faster, longer/faster, longer/faster, until just short of death. Now there's a Spark goal for ya, sounds so healthy:)

The New Year will be spectacular, enjoy beauties.

PS Pup, I stole your thread opener from Eat Clean about Spark America. I'm a steal first, apologize after kinda gal. Sorry emoticon (does that look sincere?)

FREE Advice

Tip from my personal trainer:
--- The longer you warm up the better you will perform

---Want to drop some pounds? Forget 20 or 30 minutes. Let's go for 45 minutes of cardio 3-5 days a week.
Guess what? Cardio need not be anything crazy vigorous. Walking is fine and adequate!!! TIME is important, that is how much time spend is the key here, not the actual sport.

There you go! Hope it helps! I kicked it up to 45 minutes once or 30 minutes twice a day. (Broken out is fine, too!)
