Congratulations to all who kept with the challenge throughout the month!

I especially want to make mention of Amanda and Babie_Jane for sticking it out.

Our big winner is Jane, though!
Well done!

I seem to be slowing down. I think I've decided that I like challenge for just a week or two. Any longer, and I get bored and want a change.

For February, I think I'll do 2 challenges - 1 until Valentine's Day, and one after.

That's total for both weeks, Babie_Jane? Or just for week 2? If just for week 2, you blew me out of the water! If not, it's still pretty impressive.

I just realized that I get points for something easy on the weekends - my number 2 goal is no eating what I don't take to school. As I don't go to school on the weekends, I guess I shouldn't be getting points for that then.

Hey, all,

I will commit to eating fresh produce every day and posting a message on the boards once a day.

For my hubby, I'll hold his hand and tell him 2 reasons I love him every day. Which honestly sounds so foreign to me, but shouldn't, should it? I'm not going to tell him why I'm doing it either. He'll probably think I've gone daffy. emoticon

Nutrition:
1. Track calories eaten (I kinda stopped doing that, perfect timing to get me back on track!)
2. Don't eat in front of TV (you may need to pray for me!)

Married Life:
1. write spouse a love note each day
2. pray for my spouse each day

Sorry I'm a day late! For what it's worth, I did the 2 nutrition goals yesterday, and #2 under married life.

I forgot to do mine, so thanks for being first, Jane!

And for those of you, like Jane, who are in both the Married Life and Catholic Critters Team, you will notice that the challenge is the same for the healthy part (the religious component and married life component are different). Feel free to pick the same healthy goals for each team if you wish - I don't mind if sticking to a set of goals for the month gives you double credit!

Healthy:
1. Track all food daily.
2. this is similar to the 'pack your lunch one', but customized - I will only eat food I bring from home, for lunch AND snacks, and not buy from the cafeteria or vending machines.

Married Life:
1. Pray for my spouse (did do this, but then got out of the habit, I wish to start again).
2. Time with my dh every day.

Okay, I guess somebody has to go first, so it might as well be me. emoticon

For my fast break goals, I'm picking:
Eat a high fiber/high protein breakfast daily. I need to re-focus especially on fiber intake.

Use a stress ball daily. I would include stretching as a means for me to de-stress.

The marital components of this challenge start on my DH's birthday! I'm going to try #6 & 7: Make time alone with spouse; and prayer for spouse.

Thanks for setting this up CJ!

BACK TO BASICS challenge

This time of year is often a good one to re-evaluate goals, pick new ones, or remind ourselves to continue those we are doing.

Listed below are Sparkpeople's 'fast break goals' that we all began with when we started on Sparks.

Our challenge for January here at Married Life is to pick two of the fast break goals and stick to them every day for January!

Team members earn 5 points per goal met per day (maximum 10 points per day).

PLEASE DO NOT PICK SOMETHING YOU ARE ALREADY DOING. The point is to CHALLENGE yourself. And I'm going to let you be the judge of what will be challenging for you to do.

Pick two goals and post them in this thread.
Keep reading down below for the Married Life component of this challenge...

NUTRITION:
Eat a high fiber/high protein breakfast
Eat 2 fruits or veggies
Eat 4 servings of complex carbs
Donít drink soda
Donít eat in front of the TV
Pack your lunch
Drink 8 8oz cups of water
Track calories eaten
Eat some sort of fresh produce

FITNESS:
Work in the yard
Get 10 minutes of cardio exercise
Get 8 hours of sleep
Do something active outdoors
Stretch for 10 minutes
Go for a walk
Track calories burned
Use 1 piece of fitness equipment
Use a stress/squeeze ball
Do 15 minutes of exercise while watching TV

MOTIVATION:
Tell 1 person about your goals
Write in a journal
Collect another motivational picture
Post a message on the boards
Read from a motivating story or book
Reward yourself
Read an inspirational quote
Talk to a positive friend or family member
Give yourself a 5-minute mental pep talk
Listen to a get-up-and-go song every day

Married Life Component of the Challenge

Pick two of the following things to do every day as well (for a total of 4 things to do each day):

1. Write your spouse an email or love letter every day.
2. Make a special snack or meal (even just a cup of tea will count) for your spouse every day.
3. Do something for your spouse that they would normally do (shovel the snow, empty the garbage, do a load of laundry or dishes, check the oil in the vehicle, etc.).
4. Tell your spouse daily 2 reasons you love them or reasons you appreciate them (can be different things each day or the same, up to you).
5. Give your spouse a massage.
6. Make a small card or gift for your spouse.
7. Spend time alone with your spouse, playing cards, just talking, going for a walk, etc.).
8. Pray for your spouse.
9. Hold hands whenever you are together today.
10. Call your spouse for no reason but to tell them you love them, or to ask if there is anything you can do for them that day.

God is closer to us than water is to a fish.
