Michele, I used to make trifle a lot years ago, it's great when fresh berries are in season and it always looks so pretty in a trifle bowl. It's an old English desert with many variations. Try goggling it to see if you could find a recipe you like better. It's usually made with lady fingers but I like the angle food version. Although I don't like most ingredients in fake substitutes you could use cool whip, or just go for low fat pudding and skip the whipping cream.

Towards the bottom, it does say that you can use angel food cake instead of pound cake to cut some calories. Otherwise, I'm not sure what you could substitute for the heavy cream. Maybe use no sugar pudding. Just my thoughts.
