I'm a really big "Pay-it-Forward" person ... so I blog and write books and have a Motivational Facebook page and I smile . I think that smiling is one of the easiest ways of sharing joy and of brightening another person's day. With that in mind ... I hope you enjoy my "Monday Motivation From the Heart"
“We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men; and along these fibers, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as effects.” … Henry Melville
Life’s a real push me-pull me adventure. Each of us has such a huge impact on the people around us and they … in return … affect us as well. The world around the water cooler is a lovely microcosmic illustration of how quickly the most simple of comments and actions can escalate into outright negative effects and repercussions. It’s the old you get me … so I get you … and then you get me … and then … well you get the picture.
I may never know all of the effects that come cascading off of my actions. Take smiling for example … Smiling is a way of life for me … and likewise sharing said smiles with all and sundry around me is also my norm. I like it that way. Usually … but not always … people smile back. Sometimes it takes them a little while to let the smile filter through their defenses … but in general Ms Perky and I have a pretty high success rate in the “share-a-smile-with-a-stranger-today” program. We don’t know exactly how that will affect everyone else’s day but we like to imagine that the good feelings will spread like the smell of a yummy barbeque on a breezy summer day.
Here we all are living on this tiny little planet … whizzing around our hot ball of fire at a phenomenal speed … and whilst it may seem like we’re simply a bunch of disconnected individuals each doing our thing down here … like Henry Melville … I believe that we’re all connected to each other. Sometimes that looks like the outpouring of support and caring that comes after a big tragedy and sometimes it looks like Tim Horton’s supporting a community baseball team. Sometimes caring about our “fellow man (or woman)” looks like contributing to a “cause” and other times it’s simply sitting and listening to someone. In the end I think that it doesn’t matter how big or small my actions are … it’s whether or not I actually make them. So … Ms Perky, Miss Sunshine and I plan on continuing our campaign of community-sharing-of-smiles and we trust that Life will continue to provide that extra little boost of yum.
Godspeed and Joyful Journeying Everyone
A-h-h-h yes the fire does indeed seem to take over our lives sometimes doesn't it!??!
I think that, that's Capital "L" Life's way of moving us down the exciting highway so that we can end up where ... not simply we're supposed to be ... but also where we will find the most joy.
Beautiful. So many times I talk myself out of this spark, this fire, because it scares me. I am not sure where I will end up if I fan the flames. I need to let my zest for Life and my excitement overpower my fears and trust that where I go is where I am meant to be. Thanks.

“We are all born with a divine fire in us. Our efforts should be to give wings to this fire and fill the world with the glow of its goodness. ” … Abdul Kalam
Ah-h-h-h yes … the fire. I recognize The-Fire-of-Life. Been there … done that … came out the other side of Life’s campfire looking like a roasty, toasty marshmallow! Most amazing of all … (to me anyway) … is that it seems that I have absorbed a part of aforementioned fire … and it’s not going away! Perhaps this newly acquired blaze is the reason for Sunshine Sue’s fancy, new sunglasses.
In retrospect I think that Abdul Kalam is correct and that there was always a spark of Life’s “Divine fire” inside of me … and that maybe … as with any simmering nugget … it simply needed a little encouragement and a few extra puffs of “Life-breath” to really spark it up. It would seem that I am a brand new campfire … carrying Life’s warmth and encouragement … and my own sunny and bright nature wherever I go. I flow and Life glows. How great is that!??!
I am on a new road these days. Unlike my previous road which required a fair bit of maintenance to keep traffic moving … travelling on this one is a pleasure. When I wonder where I am supposed to go next Life thoughtfully provides kind strangers and synchronistically placed directional signs for my enlightenment. I never stay lost or confused for long on this road … between Life’s spotlight (can’t miss potholes with that shining on them!) … and my own inner fire I’m feeling … not only toasty warm … but also very motivated to keep moving. I’m not sure if my little corner of the “Divine Fire” will “fill the world with the glow of its goodness” … but what I am sure of is that the fire’s constant presence has Perky Polly breaking out enough hot dogs, marshmallows and cold drinks for a huge crowd … and if she is getting ready for a party … then so am I. Bring on the glow girls … it’s time to share some joy.
