Okay, this one isn't totally free unless you can use the carpool lane on the Bay Bridge and on weekends parking may cost, but biking around the Presidio in San Francisco is awesome!
The hubs and I took a weekday off work, loaded our bikes in the car and parked at the Inspiration Point Lookout parking lot (free 4 hour parking!) right past the Arguello Blvd Gate. You can ride all the way down to the Crissy field and right to the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. You can even ride across the bridge if you want! We had to get off and walk our bikes up a few hills, but it's not bad and on a weekday traffic was not a safety concern. There are some beautiful older houses and incredible views of downtown SF, the Palace of Fine Arts, Alcatraz and of course the Golden Gate Bridge. Be sure to bring your camera!
There is even a French Bistro by the Transportation Center, so we stopped for lunch.
Two of the pictures on my Sparkpage are from that trip (where I'm wearing the yellow short-sleeve shirt).
Here is the url to the map on the Presidio website (The Arguello Blvd gate is at the bottom of the map, just above the map legend.) www.presidio.gov/experiences/trails.htm
