I loved C.H.U.D.! I'm not entirely sure it qualifies as any sort of a real movie tho. It goes into the category with films like "Humanoids from the Deep".. whatever that is.
I'm trying to think of "unique" zombie films. It's tricky, 'cuase at the time, several seemed to have an odd spin. I remember the first two "Living Dead" movies as being interesting, because a few of the actors carried over in between films, but in different roles.
The zombie film element on the "Grindhouse" film was different, and I thought some of what was done in the Re-Animator movie (the first one) was clever.
But none of them are necessarily "uniquie". I'll have to keep thinking.

I don't know if it qualifies as zombie but I remember the C.H.U.D. movies in the 80s (cannibalistic humonoid underground dwellers). If I remember right the first one was "serious" horror but the sequel was over-campy. It had a theme song "Bud the Chud" for example.

Thanks for the recommends, ladies! I added both Doghouse and Aah! Zombies! to my Queue! These look great!
As for movies that I recommend, it is totally cheesy and it was on Netflix instant for awhile (not sure if it still is or not) I just absolutely love Return of the Living Dead II. HILARIOUS! Cheesy, great lines! Very 80's, too!
I, too, loved Z-land (we bought the Blu Ray) and Shaun of the Dead! Great flicks!

Ahh! Zombies was clever. I did enjoy it!! If you like the Zom-Coms check out Doghouse. It's from the UK and I laughed so hard I cried!! As for movies that take a different approach to the whole story I really can't think of any except maybe Fido... I'll do some more thinking and maybe come up with a few!

Currently available on Netflix Instant Watch is a film called "Aaah! Zombies!" And it is seriously funny.
It's a zombie film told from the point of view of the zombies! The filming is quite clever, using color and movement to portray the zombie consciousness and contrast it with the human side of the story. So... not your typical zombie film. More humor and ridiculousness than scary or gore. But I'm really glad my boyfriend spotted it! I definitely recommend it.
What other genre-bending zombie movies would our membership recommend? Any favorites? Are there even that many movies like this? I love the horror+humor movies like "Shaun of the Dead" and "Zombieland." Or do your favorites fall in the "standard" blood+gore, omgthey'recomingatyouRUN!, Romero-esque part of the genre?
