I have always been a water girl!! My mother never purchased soda or Koolaide when we were growing up...therefore, the only thing that really quenches my thirst is water. I never have a problem getting the daily requirements and usually more. I do love my tea though, in the am and pm. (Another wonderful habit from my beautiful mother!)

i'm not quite as regimented as others here, but i do have a 27-ounce stainless steel bottle that i carry about the house with me, and keep by my bed at night. i drink 3-4 cups of a tea a day, and also keep sparkling water in the fridge because i love drinking it. it's not hard for me to do 8 cups a day - but i usually get more!

follow my food and photography blog! ginger-snapped.com

also, i just got my fitbit and would love some friends on their site. please feel free to add me - let's keep each other motivated! www.fitbit.com/user/23DZMX

I have my 24 oz. water bottle that I keep with me at all times. I get up in the morning and while my coffee is brewing I drink 1 glass of water with lemon to wake up. Then Between 8-2:30 I will go through 2-3 of my bottles. And then 1-2 more glasses with dinner and then am done for the day.. It's honestly easier for me to drink from my bottle because I can measure how much I have/need to drink. If it's a cold day I will drink it room temp or heat it up and squeeze lemon in it. If I can't take anymore plain water I'll add lime or lemon juice.
This is my break down:
1 glass wake up
3 by 11 am
2-3 by 3 pm
2-3 3pm - dinner

I easily drink about 8 glasses of water a day - and I don't count my tea or the occasional 'other' drink, even though they do totally count. If its liquid, it counts. I just figure if I don't count them, then I'll get more than the minimum.

2 glasses in the morning right when I get up. I noticed a lot of other people do the same. I've ALWAYS done this, and if I'm feeling particularly dehydrated I may drink more.
1 glass in the morning at work.
1 glass at lunch
1 glass in the afternoon at work. Sometimes 2
2 with dinner.
1 in the evening

Stop a couple of hours before bed, so I'm not up all night. :)

The thing is, these are 8 oz (237 ml) glasses. One liquid cup. To compare to Tim's new coffee sizes, that's like a small coffee. Don't be staring at the largest tumbler in your cupboard thinking "I have to down 8 of those"?

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's learning to dance in the rain.

I've been doing so well with my water... but am I the only one who has noticed that the more water you drink, the more thirsty you are? When I only manage 16-32oz a day, it seems to be ok...but when I drink 32+, I just want to keep drinking. My mouth dries out faster and everything. maybe I'm just peeing too much LOL

It's definitely gotten easier. And I don't think I can without exercising. It really makes me chug several. :)

11 cups of water today

I am a very easy going gal that loves people and wants to know as many as I can. I want to make new friends so I can enjoy more of life. When people get to 55 or 60 there are some that think life should be over but guess what it is just beginning. Maybe 50 years ago it was over but not now people are living longer and working in their 70's. I would have been if I didn't have leukemia and it does not stop me but I have good days and bad, so being home if I need rest, I rest, at work I couldn't do

For me, I start in the morning with a 1 liter (A little bit more than 32 oz) Camelback thats filled with Ice, Water, and a little bit of lemon juice (the 0 cal concentrate kind). I generally nurse that while at work until Lunch. At lunch i'll have my splurge drink. A coke at restaurant, sweet tea, afternoon can of pepsi throwback, Dr. Pepper, whatever. After Lunch, I refill my Camelback and nurse it through Dinner. By the time I sit down for dinner I've had more than 64oz of water sipped gingerly through the day.

1.) use water bottles, 16 oz...then you only have to drink 4. One with each meal and a snack.
2.) Make it COLD...easier to drink and it makes you burn a few calories cause your body has to heat up to stay at 98 degrees (so I have heard)

Once I got in the habit of drinking 8 glasses a day I've had no trouble. I don't hardly ever drink soda any more and when I do it is a real treat (diet unleaded.)

My goal is actually to drink 16 glasses a water a day ... i have a 32 oz water bottle so that helps out a lot ... the hardest time is on the weekend when im at home because thats when i have the temptation to drink other things like pop and tea ... but when im at work its easy because i either get free water from the fountain or have to pay for a pop when i want it... and they just raised the prices for a can to 75 cents so ... i drink water

I make a deal with myself. 4 glasses of water and then a soda.

I also recently got a 32 oz water bottle, so I have to fill it only 1 time during the day.

I find that starting the day off with a glass off the bat helps get me in the right mindset. You're dehydrated when you wake up (from having slept hours without water), so your body will thank you for the refresher. Once you have one (or two) when you wake up.. you only have six to go :)

I also keep a water bottle with me in the car for my drive to/from work. That helps knock back at least one more each way.

Drinking water is one of the hardest for me to do. There are some very good suggestions here. I do have a water bottle - so I promise I will get that out again and see what I can do this next week - and will report back!!

Need to make myself a note to do so - I am old now (that is the excuse I use with my kids) so i have that "short-time" memory loss. My daughter won't let me use that excuse!

I had trouble drinking 8 glasses a day. I was lucky if I even drank 4. So I bought a 65.5 oz water jug for 5 bucks a dollar store. I drank it all every day!

I just joined today and have a problem drinking 8 glasses of water as well. I drink a lot of TEA with no problem. I recently switched to decaffinated brewed Iced Tea and I add Sweet-n-low. Would this be something that you could count as a serving of water? emoticon

I don't drink much else. I cut out diet sodas. If I want a soda, I will have a real one and count the calories. Makes me think about it lots more. I typically drink 1 cup when I get up, then 4 more between working out and getting ready in the morning. By the time I get to work, I only have 3 left to go (at a minimum). I do drink coffee in the AM and then green tea in the afternoon, but try to drink water as well. I have water at lunch and at dinner, which is easily 2 cups at each meal. And if I get hungry, I make myself drink a glass of water before eating anything.

The power to change, the courage to do, the will and drive to be exceptional lies within me, and by leaving my fears, my doubts, and my excuses behind, I embrace all that lies within me.

Chrystald82- the only thing that will make you retain water is sodium (salt) and diet drinks. Diet drinks are full of sodium ;-) That's what causes all the bloating. Drink your water and you'll see that water weight gain go down!

I drink (chug) 3 glasses before lunch, 3 glasses before dinner or 2 before and one during (that way I feel full faster so I don't overeat) and then 3 in between. Sometimes I drink one first thing when I wake up. So I am having at least 10 glasses per day. I just find it easier standing by the sink chugging it down. But I do like water :-) Makes me feel good!

But im just not thristy at all, so is forcing myself to drink it good or bad for me? emoticon

Another little tip, keep this in mind and it might help you reach for your water a little more often.

You know that 'bloating' you get sometimes ... it's rare that it is because of drinking too-much water. Instead, it is too much SALT.

Drinking water helps flush your system of excess salt which reduces the tightness in your pants. emoticon

I bought a 32 oz. Rubbermaid bottle from the grocery store. I fill it first thing and drink sips while in the car and all day at work. I typically fill this bottle up 3 times a day. I can easily drink this during a workout at the gym. Many days I hit the 8 cups by noon.

I think the key is sipping constantly and not thinking you have to chug it all at once.

Thanks guys ive been able to keep my actual water intake up to a minimum of 6 glasses a day.
But I did some research on what you said about green tea CACTUSCATNZ.
And i found out that even though a majority of your intake should come for plain jane H2O, things like green tea and chamomile tea count towards your 8 glasses as well.

Ive been able to drink about 35-50 oz of water a day from a water bottle i now keep on my desk.

I drink water from the time I get up until I go to bed. It's been a habit for a long time. I keep a large insulated mug on my desk at work and drink all day long. I keep refillable bottles at home and drink 3 or 4 every evening. I will drink something else with a meal (a small iced tea or a bit of soda) occasionally and I treat myself to a cranberry limeade from Sonic on either Saturday or Sunday every week.
By the way, as far as what counts as water, I have to drink a lot to keep kidney stones flushed out and my doc says as long as it's liquid, he counts it!

Another thing I thought of that works for me is not to drink ice water. I find I drink ice water much slower than when I just fill my cup with cold/cool water.

I've also heard that people drink pop more using a straw, so that might help too.

Start drinking first thing in the morning. Get a reusable water bottle and fill it often.

I don't usually have a problem drinking 8 cups of water a day. What I've done, is I keep a 32 oz cup of water at my desk. I fill it when I get to work and have it finished before lunch. Then, do the same thing in the afternoon and make sure it's gone before I go home.

There you go 8 cups of water.

SARAHGMD, green tea naturally contains only trace amounts of caffeine because of the way it is processed.

SJMOLINA, it sounds to me like you might need to pace your water intake a bit more - take sips very often, rather than drinking 8oz at a time.

Believe it or not, I drink from 12 to 14 cups per day, and that does NOT include my intake of coffee, tea, etc. I don't touch sodas. I do spend a lot of time in activities that result in a good deal of sweating, and I need the water to rehydrate. But to be honest, I don't know how I could get through the day with 8 cups or less. In other words, this isn't a problem for me. Temptations to eat certain delightful tasty pastries and the like do present a problem. So I just don't keep them around.

If coffee doesn't count tea (at least caffeinated tea, which is anything but rooibos or herbal) shouldn't either because the caffeine is the diuretic.

What I've read says that it still functions as about 95% of the amount drunk, so you might want to drink a little more if you're counting them, but it still works.

Drinks with a lot of sugar are also questionable because your body doesn't absorb the liquids as well.

Coffee shouldn't count since it's a diuretic, but tea's ok. Don't think of it as 8 cups - that's daunting. I have a 24 oz carry bottle and if I drink two of those I'm set for the day.

Here are my tricks - I usually get 20+ cups/day:
1. Coffee - counts. Weight Watchers now counts tea and coffee as water.
2. When you first wake up, go into the bathroom and drink 2 to 3 cups of water. Besides - your body is really thirsty after 6 to 8 hours of sleep.
3. Water mixes
4. Conciously remind yourself that when you feel hungry, 9 times out of 10, its your body asking for water.
5. Chug it - Take a deep breath and just chug as much as you can. To be honest, this is one of the skills that I learned in college and I still use today! Ha!

I start my day with a glass of water or two. I also try to drink water before & with my meals. I have my tea/coffee afterwards. I have tried the protein water which isn't too bad.
My downfall is the soda I like to have with lunch but I try to drink water after.
Good Luck!

Ok so even though the Crystal Light stuff has been added i can still count it as a bottle of water?

But doesnt your stomach start to hurt when you have had so much water?
I drink a cup of coffee in the morning and then at minimum 2 cups of green tea and i try to get in as much water as i can but i can only get in about 5 cups of water before the work day is over and when i get home i dont usually drink anymore water til i go to bed so how do i fix that?

Basically figure you're gonna drink 8 ounces (1 cup) every hour through the day. A lot of bottled waters come in 16.9 ounce bottles, so there's two, right off the bat.

I have an 24 oz bottle that I keep refilling at work. Usually I add a packet of Crystal Light Cherry-Pomegranate to that for flavor. When that's done, that's three 8 ounces gone. I do one bottle before noon, and one bottle after noon, and that just leaves me two more for the evening.

Hope this helps!

Susan
