With all of your recent success, maybe your sister's scale didn't work because you didn't weigh enough to trigger it to work? LOL

I fasted on Friday but could not get my sisters scale to work, so I do not know if it did much good. I hope to get back to my tracker weight after the 6th of January. I might fast one day or another before then.

Fasting on Christmas Eve is quite impressive, Monica. I feel so lucky this year that I wasn't inundated with everyone giving me all kind of candy. I ate quite a bit on Christmas morning. My daughter made us pancakes and then I had some left over vegan lasagna before 11 a.m. However, I am not going to eat again before I go to the gym at about 4 pm, so overall I will probably do OK for Christmas day. I still don't see me getting into fasting for awhile, however, I'm really getting back into exercising.

I was able to stay with my fast yesterday and had my reward today as I lost over a pound this week. Next week is likely to be less good, as I will be eating lots of Christmas goodies.

Fasting this Friday and having more trouble staying with it . I ate some sweets yesterday and think that might be my problem. Fussy babies makes it harder as well, teething has the easier baby more fussy than normal. The other is still more fussy so you might get an idea of how bad it gets. I will do this even if it is hard.

That is so true, Bug. It's probably related to Newton's scientific laws: An object in motion remains in motion, and an object at rest remains at rest. When we're making progress with our diet, we'll continue to make progress until some force acts upon it and stops our progress. When we're not making any progress, we'll continue to not make any progress unless we can figure out how we can get back on that track of motion toward our goal. We just need to figure out how to get back on that track of success and things will come easy to us again as they are presently coming to Monica.

I lost 1.2 pounds this week!!! This is a surprise for me as I had cookies and candy this week. The hardest thing for me this time of year is tracking all the food I eat as much of it is homemade and not in the system.

You were doing so good with the fasting. The more we fast, the easier it becomes and the less we fast it becomes harder. I know that to get back on track, water fasting is a necessity with me. It somehow breaks the hold that food has on me and even dieting becomes easier.

I really wish that I could get my mindset back to fast three days a week, but I can't. It's especially difficult for me right now since I had my surgery and am home all day. I have food around me all the time, so I'm finding that I'm eating more often. In addition, I can't exercise for another three weeks which makes it more difficult not to gain.

I looked St. Nicholas Day up in Wikipedia. Even though it's not celebrated nationally in the U.S., there are pockets of people in German, Polish, Belgian and Dutch communities within the U.S. who do celebrate it to a certain extent. In Europe, there appears to be a number of countries where it is celebrated as a gift giving holiday instead of Christmas.

Not all Catholics learn their religion well. My family was always learning new things and trying new things. Just like fasting for me, something that I had thought would be too hard for me to do.

I was brought up Catholic and still never heard of it. However, I do believe that I remember seeing a movie at an international film festival a few years back that was Scandinavian based and they celebrated St. Nicholas Day.

It is more of a Scandinavia tradition, but is Catholic as well. He is the Patron Saint of children and the beginning of Santa Claus. My family has always liked to find new traditions to add to our Holidays.

I am thinking about fasting in the Christmas time, at least some. I do love Christmas and all the good food that my family likes for the season. I am fasting today even though the baby is crying and that makes it hard to do with the stress that crying makes. My BP is better now than in a long time.

Yes, I'm going to have a Thanksgiving day cup of green tea right now. However, I think that I'm going to stick to one or no more than two cups a day. Something isn't agreeing with my stomach and it's been since I started drinking the green tea - I'm not sure if it could be anything else, but it may be that I've been eating a lot of oranges lately.

Bob I hope the green tea works for as well as it does for me. I am down another 2.4 pounds this week and am very happy with that; as last week I was up 0.2 pound. Thanksgiving might cause trouble but I hope not, at least it is only the one day not 12 like Christmas or a whole month like Carnival. Each Holiday has its own problems for us.

I have the same problem with sweets Monica. But for some reason, I haven't gone around the house looking for left-over Halloween candy. We still have a couple of opened snack bags lying around. This is definitely a "world" record for our household. I usually gobble up left-over Halloween candy in a few days after Halloween.

I have never fasted on Halloween before, but it was not hard as we had no candy in the house yesterday. I got some of my baby nieces' candy today so that was nice. Tomorrow is a fast of course but that seems like it will be easy. Even on my eating days the green tea kills my hunger.

Monica, I hope you have that loss to report. I spent a lot of the day moving things into our basement as we are expected to see some impact of the hurricane tomorrow (Monday). My son's school was already cancelled, but it looks like I'll have to go into work. Hopefully we want lose power.

I am fasting today as planned. I am trying plain green tea today. This is not as good as mixed with jasmine. I tried some sparkling water in one glass but that did not taste good. I hope to have a loss to report tomorrow.

Down one more pound this week!! I know that this will not be continuously the same, but I am happy to lose anything. My hips and waist are getting smaller as well.

Monica, great job on your weight loss! It's true that it's difficult to get all your recommended protein unless you either eat a lot of meat or overeat. You might want to try Silk Fruit and Protein drink. It tastes pretty good and has a decent amount of protein (5g or 10% for one cup). It's a little on the expensive side, but it does go on sale on occasion (at least in my area).

Even with a bad fast on Monday I am down 2.6#s this week. My eating days are not going as high as in the past. I think that it is having green tea everyday that helps me to eat less.

I did not fast on Monday as I was taking my family that are visiting to the French Quarter to shop and eat at two restaurants that both had speciality's we all wanted to try. I did not eat much else but some almonds on Monday. Today is a real fast for me.

One hard thing for me is that if I do not over eat then I do not get all the things I want as well as the nutrients. I started taking vitamins years ago so that I would not have to worry so much about that. Protein is the thing I never seem to get as much of as Spark wants me to.

Yes Monica, only eating until full seems to be a key. I seem to have something deep in my throat (tastebuds??) that drives me to eat more even when my stomach is full. I've been looking for that magic way of controlling that appetite, but I haven't found it yet. I think that the green tea that you're drinking may be curbing your appetite somewhat, however, it probably doesn't completely shutdown your appetite.

I find that I eat too much most up days. I just like sweets way more than I like being thin. I know one of my sisters liked sweets but did not have a problem keeping her weight under control, she said that she just did not like being too full, so she did not over eat at any time. I will have to give this a try.

I am fasting today, but I ate some candy yesterday so I am not sure if I will lose much this week. I like candy, cookies, cakes and junk food in general, so it is hard to lose even if I fast three days a week.

We lost power on the first day of the storm, but did not leave the house until the third day. We where able to stay with relatives on the other side of the lake who had a generator to help the situation so it was a bit hard with cats for me but good for us all in the general way. We got back to the house on Tuesday after the power came back on. My niece is working so I have less time for the computer now.

Hopefully everyone is safe from the hurricane. Let us know how you fared when you are able to get online again. I work with a girl who has a sister living in New Orleans. She said that her sister left the city and went to visit a brother in Birmingham, AL until the storm passes.

I gave in tonight and had a small bag of popcorn, only 100 calories. I had done so well but sometimes the evening is more than I can take. Candy has been a problem for me on fasting days in the past but now I try to eat something else instead.

LIttle tricks that work for us (such as how drinking the iced green tea works for you) make a big difference in how successful we can be.

I find if I drink a glass of iced green tea when ever I am hungry on a fasting day I can do it with little trouble. I told my Mother about this way of doing a fasting day and hope she will give it a try, even if she is 87 years old. I think that this woe is good for everyone.

I had some walnuts and dried fruit last night and that has helped me not to be so hungry today. The green tea that I drink most days is also a help with hunger control. I am luck that my niece is so kind letting me use her computer. It is a Mac so I find it harder to use than a PC. Perhaps I can learn to do things on this computer as time goes by.

Yes, after eating for two days (Sat and Sun) in a row and most likely them being Medium to Up days, the stomach does get stretched a bitand wants to be filled up on Mondays.
