Get my outside walking up. Final goal is to visit each of my children (all live less than 5 miles one way) who live in my town. It will be a 6-7 mile round trip for one, but the others are less than 5 round trip. I've gotten in a rut and getting home late, I've been letting indoor walking take the place of outside. It isn't the same for me and I need the challenge of being outside.

Chex mix is a snack using cereal called Chex (corn, rice, wheat) that are shaped in little woven squares and are light and puffy. I add pretzels and pour some melted mixture containing some butter, worchestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder. toss to coat the mixture and then "bake" in a cool oven, about 225 degrees for 20 minutes. It is salty, a little spicy, and easy to enjoy. The kids like homemade better than storebought.

My son makes the fudge now although I may make a batch for fun. I truly enjoy that my children in law bring their own favorite foods to the celebrations and we have some new traditions to enjoy.

Wow - almost forgot about the crockpot cake. Gosh - it's so yummy!!

There are so many recipes using Chex cereals. I just found one via e-newsletter I get:

Cinnamon Sugar Chex Mix
ľ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoons cinnamon
ľ cup butter, melted
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups Cinnamon Chex Cereal
3 cups Rice Chex Cereal
In a small bowl mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside. Stir vanilla into melted butter. In a large bowl combine cereals. Pour butter and cinnamon sugar mixture over the cereal until evenly combined.
Microwave entire mixture for 3-4 minutes or utnil it just starts to brown. Stir once while cooking. Spread on a cookie sheet to cool and then store in an airtight container or bag.
Serve and enjoy!

Haven't tried it yet but sounds yummy!

WalkingGran ... what is a "Chex mix ?" Sounds intriguing ..... The last time I baked made a
Christmas Cake. ( Didn't last long !???? emoticon ) We used to open any gifts Christmas morning .... mainly because Allen would try and get to the Post Box first so's he could grab and hide them !! I was hopeless .... would open any for me the moment they arrived and then pester Allen to reveal the hiding place for the rest ...... ( Never worked mind you .... emoticon )

A combination of B and C. There is no way I'm going to starve the rest of the day as it is not a good idea. I'm more likely to eat something without thinking when I'm feeling deprived. However, eating my whole calorie allowance in the morning makes me less hungry during the day as I'm "full" and if I listen to my body, I usually eat much less at lunch and a lighter dinner just because I'm not "needing" food.

Hello and Hi there everyone !! ( Any one want a whole heap of aching bones for free ??! Hmm
thought not ... ) Anyway the answers to last weeks questions are.
1. (a) There are 180 calories to a half cup portion of Cornbread stuffing.
2. was also (a) there are 8grams of protein in a cup of canned Lentil soup.
Every one I guess is really , really busy now so just one question for this week.

emoticon emoticon "Ooops - you ate your days worth of calories during breakfast.
What do you do emoticon
(a) Hit the gym. All those extra calories will give me more energy.
(b) Eat a small lunch and an even smaller dinner.
(c) Think of this as a "cheat" day and enjoy the rest of my meals.

Take care, be safe and well and try to grab five for yourself during these crazy days !! emoticon

I hate the crazy, so I try to get as much done by the end of November. I hate shopping in December and I really hate doing any crafty things so late in the year. I find that I run short of time and I get tired then I'm cranky. Things get rushed and it isn't fun for any of us.

I even decorated early this year as my daughter was getting married and it was out of state, so I put up my tree and flew off to the wedding.

The wedding did slow down my other things and I'm here scrambling to get some shopping done on line so I don't have to brave crowds.

This year the silly season started early - we had a lady in the US that sprayed other shoppers with pepper spray so she could get to the electronic toys first On Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving)! Truly sad in my opinion!!

I'll go with C & C (lentils are a great source of protein & very low in fat).

Thanks for the advice Hilary. I keep a computer note of each holiday about recipes, shopping, family likes or dislikes, etc. It's great after 356 days have passed & you can't for life of yourself remember how long that darned turkey was in the smoker or at what temperature or the fact that your sister in law collects garden fairies (it's been several months since we've been in the garden).

emoticon emoticon ... TO THE "SILLY SEASON ... emoticon emoticon I don't know if you have the same or similar North of the Equator - but due
South - like here in the Antipodes it is a kind of tradition in the build up to Christmas . Actually it reaches its climax around Christmas eve about 5 minutes before the shops all close when Mum decides she forgot the ALL IMPORTANT CREAM ! ( emoticon - or something - raisins, brandy - you name it !) Anyway she charges off to the nearest Supermarket to discover half the town's population of Mums have all forgotten something.!! Stressed to the limit, nerves jangling ... tempers frayed ... you can imagine the rest. Fast forwarding to the return home .... " I WILL NEVER ! NEVER ! NEVER! DO THIS AGAIN. NEXT YEAR I AM STARTING IN JANUARY !!!!!!!" Of course the day after Christmas - "This was the best, happiest, most fun filled Christmas ever ! " emoticon

HERE WE ARE - YOUR NEW QUESTION FOR THE WEEK ( a quick double banger !)
1. How many calories are there in a half cup portion of Cornbread stuffing?
(a) 180calories. (b) 260calories (c) 330calories.
AND
2. How many grams of protein are in a cup of canned Lentil soup?
(a) 8grams (b) 15grams (c) 24grams.

Have a great week everyone ! emoticon and don't forget to add the cream ... oh and the brandy , if you like - to your shopping list ..... emoticon emoticon

c. After I've been the size a while. Not necessarily because I'm afraid of going up a size but because I don't want to buy a size and be dropping soon to a size smaller. Just a thought from those of us who are/have been on a bigger goal weight change.

When do you start buying clothes in smaller sizes ?
(a) Before I start my diet - for motivation.
(b) Once I reach that smaller size.
(c) After I have been that smaller size for a while - just in case.

Take care be safe and well and ... "me thinks" the days ahead are gradually going to move up a notch in tempo ! .....

B. I once did start a diet just before the holidays and I did vey well. I still enjoyed the foods I like but learned proper proportions and still lost my goal weight.

Probably not as that would set me up for failure, but Spark is about making healthy changes and I would make some healthier choices like walking after dinner or substituting a veggie for a roll at dinner. Small changes, but it would help me see the possibilities.

Peanut Butter fudge has fewer calories, but I still prefer milk chocolate fudge. I make a batch before the kids come over. We all have a bit and enjoy it and it is gone. I love times like that. Sharing really increases the joy.

I think peanuts have a lot more fat so I would say the milk chocolate fudge has less calories but may not be healthier.

B. Much of the time my "slump" is more related to my trying to skip steps and basic parts of the task. When I get back to basics and concentrate on the base skills, the slump will end and I can get back to my normal life.

honestly also I would ask myself why I am trying to "even out the score". Usually this happens to me when I've achieved something new in another area of my life. The personal ego always wants to balance out the equation so we never really win.

#5 because I am wavering back and forth so much right now. I know what I should be eating and some days do very well and other days I have way too much great tasting non nutritional food. I was doing really well up until about a year ago and haven't been able to get back on track regularly again. I am determined that November will be #4 answer!

For me it is # 4 as I have only certain foods I can eat and generally pureed or in smoothie form.
The foods are healthy and my diet is guided by my Nutritionist.

Foe me, it's #5. For specifics , I would have to say all of the above.
1. I want what I eat to be flavorful so I try to find recipes with plenty of herbs & spices.
2. & 3. Planning meals helps with incorporating more fruits & vegetables into my diet. If I fall off the plan (like when I'm out with friends for an evening, I make sure I get back on it
4. When I cook, I try to make enough for 5 or 6 meals. Eat 1 that night & freeze the rest.

Daily Affirmations:
I am strong!
I am fit!
I am healthy!
I am beautiful!
I can do anything I put my mind to!
I am loved!

"You have to find something that you love enough to be able to take risks, jump over the hurdles and break through the brick walls that are always going to be placed in front of you. If you don't have that kind of feeling for what it is you are doing, you'll stop at the first giant hurdle."
