OKANOG66 - Before we retired and moved I had a small aquarium tank in my larger kitchen so I could watch my fish while preparing foods. When we moved my kitchen is too small for a tank but now that you brought up the idea of a portable bowl I think I'm going to go and get myself a small goldfish and bowl and set that in the middle of the kitchen table and watch my fish while eating. I usually set up my lap top and use my meal times to make sure I am doing all my spark points and enter anything that needs tracking at that time. I lost two lbs. again this week after being stagnant for a couple of weeks because of a sprained tendon in the ball of my foot which I wasn't able to be active during the healing time. It's better now and so today I'm back working on my walk/jog training from the beginning.

I always eat alone. I enjoy it best when I make something really special for me to savor. Otherwise it can blend into mindless eating over enjoying the moment I am in. And I've certainly done that one enough: which is what brought me here.

Not a big internet user. This is about the most I do except library e-books and audio books I borrow for free.

Taz,

I never eat alone, as I always ask the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit to sit with me at God's table and enjoy having a meal with me!!! It's really a special moment, when I ask the Trinity, to sit with me, and I'm humbled each time, they continue to do this. They never get tired of sitting with me.

I use paper plates and Styrofoam bowls, as a necessity, as I have no cupboard space to put any dishes. I just have some pots and pans in the cupboard, but I have no space for anything else.

I've eaten in bed one time. It was when I was over at my neighbors homes, and she and her husband went off for the weekend, and I was watching 4 boys. I had taught them a while back, how to make an egg in a basket, and they loved it. Well, Curtis, the oldest, knocked on the bedroom door, and when I told him he could come in, he had the egg in a basket, along with fruit and juice, serving me breakfast in bed!!! That was such a touching gesture from a 12 year old kid. I'll never forget that, as long as I live.

Be blessed,

- Nancy Jean -

Hi! One thing I never could stand was eating in bed. I usually eat at a table in my kitchen. During a holiday, I cook a meal for my neighbor, and we eat together. Sometimes, I eat on a table in my living room. Putting food on a real plate makes my meals look better. I have not been in a fast food resturant in a year. It's not that I don't like the food, but I do better if I cook it.

I don't think anyone enjoys eating alone, but it is a fact of life for many.
There are some benefits to eating alone

1. Lower cost for preparing meals
2..Less clean up . One could dine on paper plates
3 Time saving and economical too!
4. We can prepare 4 meals at once and save 3 for the freezer.

I am sure most of us have chosen to eat in front of the TV at one time or another. Though come to realize we are shovelling in the food without thought. Perhaps not thinking of the overweight situation, many of us are in, that eating should be enjoyed.

I myself have eaten meals watching TV but what a mess, crumbs in the sofa or bed, on the floor, spilled food on ones clothing! Life gives us choices, different strokes for different folks!

I was at Costco recently and bought a set of 3 scented battery operated candles. I bought them thinking they would be nice through the winter months, when the nights are cold, dark and long. .

Ann,

AMEN!!! I'm with you, I haven't stepped into a fast food place, in I don't know how long. I don't miss it!!! In fact, when I came home from the hospital, my parents wanted to take me to McDonalds, to eat some lunch, and I told them that I wasn't able to go there. They figured it was because I had learned to eat correctly, while I spent 6 months in the hospital. They then reassured me that I could eat a salad at McDonalds, and it would be okay. I told them that fast food places are a trigger food for me and I didn't want to put myself in a place that I knew would trigger a bad habit again. They opted to go the grocery store, and get me a salad, and I shared a turkey sandwich, using my condiments at home, with my mom.

I still don't have any desire to enter a fast food place, but I can now say, that I would be able to go in and have nothing happen!!!

Be blessed,

- Nancy Jean -

Eating alone at home. I could easily just sit and watch TV while shoveling my food down, sitting on the sofa, while watching TV, which actually took some time to break the habit. Now I am in a routine to set the dining room table for each meal. My living room and dining room are in one large room, so instead of watching TV from my dining table, I turn on my music.

Bought myself a fishbowl garden, which sits on my coffee table except for meal times which I move it on to the dining room table for meals. Sometimes buy fresh flowers to change the scenery of my meal times.

Have you ever watched "Kitchen Nightmares: Restaurant Makeover by Gordon Ramsay?"

The filth that is shown in some commercial kitchens and rotten food some places try to serve the public, is horrid! It is amazing there isn't an epidemic of Food Poisoning! That show has turned me off from eating out.

I tested myself to ban fast food places for one week, which was about 7 years ago and still haven't entered one..

Marie,

I never thought of lighting a candle, for my meals. I'll have to wait, until winter, so the house won't be so BRIGHT!!!

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have struggled with eating alone for years, just recently I started making a goal of sitting at the table for at least one meal a day, I light a candle and try to be more mindful of what and how much I am eating.

I always sit at my kitchen table to eat my meals. I don't find it depressing, as I just say out loud, "Okay God, you, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and I are all sitting down together at your table and we're going to have breakfast together." I do that for every meal, and I don't have any sense of being alone or depressed. I do bless my food before I eat, but after I eat, I thank God again for the meal and then I tell him the thing I'm most appreciative for, is the fact that He, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit took the time to sit down with me at his table and have breakfast or whatever meal it is, with me. Now that really makes me feel special!!!

Yes, I do eat some of my snacks in front of the computer. As far at the TV, no. I haven't turned the TV on in over a month. I don't even miss it!!!

Be blessed everybody,

I prepare my plate/bowl, etc. and watch tv, sit at the computer, or read. I don't feel as if this is distracted dining because I fix my food first. Sitting at the table alone is depressing without a good book!

The book or puzzle book fits in with what I would normally do eating out at a restaurant alone. If the location where I eat has a window to outside with any sort of natural view, I'd enjoy that and let my mind wander a little between bites. Otherwise, I actually do eat while working on the computer (don't watch TV), but I make sure to take time to appreciate the food mindfully.

I have to say, I usually watch tv, however, if it wasn't the tv, I'd most likely read a book. I don't believe that eating alone means sitting at a table all alone, though many don't mind it. I use it too relax with a show I enjoy. I know they say don't do it, but I've watched tv and eaten for years and don't snack after dinner. Somehow, I've learned to eat dinner and watch tv, but evening snacks are few and far between.

I struggle with this one as well. When I am doing well at it I do the conscientious eating thing where I think about what I am eating and focus on my chewing, etc. It gets less boring the more you do it and you eat less than you would because you realize you are full.

I eat alone all the time, always in front of the tv or at the computer and occasionally standing at the kitchen counter. I just make sure it's on a salad plate to keep me from over eating. Sitting at a table all by myself is just not for me...I've tried it and I still ending up with the tv on and looking for something to watch, lol.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do while eating alone?
I traditionally would eat in front of the computer or TV but am trying to change that habit. But its boring and lonely eating at a table alone....
