Still tracking over here! How is everyone doing out there? Not loosing any weight these days but not gaining either and I still track 6 out of 7 days of the week. It's my saving grace b/c without tracking I would probably double my calorie consumption!!! THX SP!

Hi everyone!

I'm a little slow jumping onto our class of message boards, but here I am. I have been tracking every day since 2/23, my first day. I used to try to keep track on paper, but this is so much better. I love how everything is broken down. I was surprised my first few days to see how little protein, calcium and fiber I was getting, but now I've been hitting those goal ranges practically every day. I'm on the lookout for high protein and fiber foods every time I'm at the grocery store. Staying within my calorie range has been fairly easy, although most days I still feel hungry all day long even when I've finished a meal. I'm hoping that will fade in time. The thing I most struggle with in tracking is when I eat at someone else's house. I don't know what they've put in their food so I can't accurately track it. The perfectionist in me has to stand aside and let me pick a similar food off the tracker and hope it is semi accurate. I haven't gone out to eat much yet, but I'm sure will find myself in a similar situation when going to non chain restaurants. Oh well, can't have perfect tracking every day, just as long as it is most days of the week!

As soon as I got the tracker figured out I have been tracking everything - I think it's fun, lol. I've done it for 5 days now, and I plan to keep doing it. I'm trying to limit sodium so I keep an eye on that, as well as calories; those are my main 2 areas. I also track a bunch of other things and it's really interesting to see how close to my daily goals I am. :)

Wow - tracking my food for the past 5 days has been eye opening. I obviously didn't realize how many calories I was taking in...sometimes double the allotment. YIKES! Hello...now I know why I look like I do!

For two days now I've met - or nearly met - the food goals. YEAH! I'm starving most of the time (as my body is ticked off at the change and is in withdrawals, no doubt), but I'm smarter, and committed to climbing out of this hole I've dug! Good to be here, classmates!

This seems hard to me. I hate the idea as I have a history (ancient history, now) of being sort of anorexic... I didn't eat for days. I made a decision a couple decades ago to eat whatever I wanted, whenever, in order to get used to eating. Now, I'm shooting for three meals a day, as I'm dealing with a lot of stress (left over from life events). I don't eat a lot of junk, as it doesn't really appeal to me.... don't know how to simplify this so that it doesn't seem so daunting to me. Maybe reading the Spark book will help me "get" this.

I'm on day 3 of tracking my food. It really does help when I log in around dinner time. It reminds me that I only have a few calories to spare, and I should use them wisely! So far, so good! emoticon

2/20 = 1273
2/21 = 1188
2/22 = 1309
2/23 = 1300
2/24 = 1359

On the 22nd I had a moment at the end of the day when I didn't want to eat everything to meet the goals. I feel better just knowing I'm eating a balanced diet and have had only any occasional craving. I miss chocolate/sugar the most.

Great! The first step is knowing where you are. How can you start a journey if you don't know where to start from?

Yes I can do the tracking!
My metabolism is going to do a dive here as I stow down and eventually quit smoking, so am aiming at the minimum daily calories already plus am hoping adding regular treadmilling to my life will help.

The first step in knowing how we might need to change our lifestyle, is knowing what we're doing now. Even if you don't make any changes at all to your food patterns, simply tracking what you ARE eating will be a start in the right direction. You'll be able to see how your intake compares with Spark's suggested guidelines, and where you might need to make some changes.

The single most effective habit for losing weight and maintaining it is to write a food diary. Universally, this is the single most effective thing you can do. So get started!

So this challenge is to track everything you eat for five days. Every bite, every taste.

Can you do it?
