I am from near Pittsburgh , never heard of the green beans with bacon ... but the potatoes with it .. I have.
My mom and dad never cooked healthy either. But we did always have meat, potatoes, and veggies just always canned or made with lots of fat or butter.

Hahaha, too funny. My Mom would cook food like this when I was growing up. Always putting bacon in my Green Beans. Potatoes too. It was good, don't get me wrong, but when I became Girl-Concious, i was like "Mom, I'd like to eat Healthier", which translated to her as 'when you make me sloppy joes, please put them on wheat bread', or 'How about a ranch dressing bowl with some salad on the side, k tks".

Ha well I do live in the south. Ive successfully converted him from fried chicken to baked. From loaded butter filled and I'm talking 3 sticks of butter per batch. He eats buscuits once a weeks. And burritos with turkey meet....oh and since I cant eat Msg....we cant eat anything.....it feels like. So we literally cook everything. I love me some bacon don't get me wrong. But its expensive so I buy rarely. Ill just pretend it didn't happen. Totally hard to cook for myself. I work 4pm till 1am. 5 nights a week. Lol

Oh dear! Is your bf a fan of Paula Deen? I guess he was trying to be helpful. I don't know if there is a calorie entry for that, so you should just have a good laugh and start fresh tomorrow.

If I were you, I'd prepare my own meals until he gets the picture. You have an opportunity to show him that healthy foods are tasty. (If he doesn't like your healthy meals, then he can prepare his own.) I've found communicating clear guidelines very helpful. Since I gave up flesh and fish last year, my husband knows not to buy them for me; he will bring home some tasty fake meat offerings for me to try. We'll share sides (veggie and carbs), but he will eat meat and I will choose a meat-free protein (beans, veggie burger) to complete my meal.

I usually eat fresh or frozen veggies, but I try to add something interesting for flavor instead of salt (which makes me blow up like a water balloon.) I throw some craisins (dried cranberries) in with the green beans before I steam them. Hubby loves it and requests it often. Another thing I do, which is a tasty alternative to drowning veggies in cheese, is drizzle frozen broccoli with some olive oli and sprinkle powdered garlic on it, then steam it, either in the microwave or on the stovetop. Hubby really likes that, too, but I usually end up eating all the broccoli before we can have it for dinner. :(
