Day 22: I blogged about this

Day 23: Portion control has really been the key thing for me!

Day 24: I blogged about this; just because you COULD do it, doesn't mean you HAVE to do it.

Day 25: One of the best parts about being responsible for cooking the big dinner, is controlling the menu and the ingredients!

Day 26: I wrote a blog about this

Day 27: I quit drinking years ago. I have coffee in the morning and then water all the rest of the time.

Day 28: I wrote a blog about this

Day 29: I wrote a blog about this

Day 30: I always take advantage of a sunny day, especially in the wintertime. It really does help improve my mood!! It's sunny here today; I've been out and walked, and this cabin only has curtains on the bedroom window (we're way out in the woods). The other windows face the lake and curtains would close off the fabulous view.

Day 31: I wrote a blog about this

Day 22: emoticon At my office we had decided no gifts this year to each other due to no money but it didn't feel right to me so I bought everyone something and wrapped it then put 2 candy canes and 2 pieces of chocolate on each gift. Mostly what I bought were wall calendars with a pen taped to each one and a small key chain flash light. For my 2 women bosses I bought each a candle, a smaller calendar with pen for each and for the 2 men bosses I bought each a coffee cup you can plug into the car cigarette lighter with day planners and a pen each. It wasn't much really but one lady was almost in tears when she thanked me for her calendar. I had bought her a calendar with cute cat and dog pictures. She told me I had no idea how much it meant to her that I picked that calendar for her. Her 2 cats that she had for 18 years had both passed away this year and some of the pictures looked just like her cats. Sometimes it only takes something small to make someone's day.
Day 23: emoticon I ate smaller portions and when I felt a need to eat and knew it wasn't from hunger I made myself do something else and chewed suger free gum or drank water til the urge passed.
Day 24: emoticon I am only attending 2 events this year.
Day 25: emoticon used low fat sour cream, low fat cream cheese and splena instead of the regular sour cream, cream cheese and sugar in cooking grape salad.
Day 26: emoticon got plenty of rest and took a day off from work outs due to a bad sinus headache.
Day 27: emoticon drank plenty of water
Day 28: emoticon Going to do Tai Chi tonight total relaxation
Day 29: emoticon Did Cardio Kick Boxing No snow here
Day 30: emoticon Got what sun I could went for a nice walk today just enjoyed being outside and it being warm enough to enjoy.

emoticon Week 4 (Dec. 22nd -31st)

Dec. 22nd

Give back. Too
often we focus
on ourselves, but the
holidays provide ample
opportunities to give
back.Whether you
donate your money or
your time, don't forget
about those in need

Dec. 23rd

Use a smaller
plate. Make just
one trip to the food
table, and fill only a
salad-sized plate with
your favorites.This helps
keeps portions under
control

Dec. 24th

Downsize. You
don't have to
stay to the end of every
party or attend every
gathering. Look at your
list of events and
obligations and see
where you can cut back
on time, energy, and
money

Dec. 25th (MERRY CHRISTMAS)

Make healthy
substitutions.
Try applesauce in place
of oil, two egg whites
instead of one egg, and
skim milk in place of
regular milk when
baking. Look for ways to
cut sugar and use whole
grains too

Dec. 26th

Rest up. Don't
skimp on
sleep during the
holidays—you'll only
feel stressed out and
run down. Plan your
days so you can check
off your to-do list and
still make it to bed for 8
hours of shut eye

Dec. 27th

Drink water.
Holiday
beverages,from eggnog
to champagne abound!
But they also add empty
calories to your diet.
Stay hydrated by
drinking water all day.
At the party, alternate
water with other
beverages

Dec. 28th

De-stress.
You'll enjoy the
holidays more if you're
calm and relaxed. Make
stress relief a priority by
journaling, meditating
and exercising regularly.
When things get hectic,
take a step back and
refocus on what matters
most

Dec. 29th

Embrace
the season.
Instead of
avoiding the
cold and the snow, try a
winter sport like ice
skating, snowboarding,
hockey, snow shoeing or
sledding. Enjoy these
opportunities while they
last

Dec. 30th

Get some sun.
It will help
improve your mood and
energy levels
throughout the stressful
season. Open your
shades during the day,
sit near windows when
indoors, and spend
some time outside each
day

Dec. 31st

Set realistic goals.
No one can expect to
change a lifetime's
worth of habits
overnight. Select a few
reasonable
resolutions, and create
an action plan to
achieve them

emoticon BONUS

Declutter 15min a day at least 3 days this week

REMINDER: Don't forget to post points by Wednesday night(Jan 4th).

REMINDER: Don't forget to post points for week 2 by tonight.

emoticon Winners for Week 2 that were active on this message board all week are:

1st Place: SPUTNIK512 (Love the blogs)
2nd Place: VICIOUS421
3rd Place: MISSRUTH

emoticon Week 3 (Dec. 15th -21st)

Dec. 15th---To earn credit for this day do 1 of the following:

Bring a healthy
dish.When
attending a
party, cook a healthy,
low-cal dish to share.This
way, you'll have at least
one healthy option when
you're there.

Dec. 16th--To earn credit for this day give yourself a positive pep talk or write in a journal

Stay positive.
Everyone makes
mistakes, so
there will be times
when even the most
disciplined person
overeats or skips a
workout. Don’t
worry—just get back on
track. Staying positive is
half the battle.

Dec. 17th--To earn credit for this day say no to urges and cravings or have a smaller portions than you normally would have.

Just say no. Just
because
everyone is eating does
not mean that you have
to. Choosing smaller
portions shouldn’t
offend a host, but
sometimes it may be
necessary to decline.

Dec. 18th--To earn credit for this day do 1 of the following or come up with a new activity to do that does not focus on food during a holiday gathering.

Start a new tradition. Focus
on fun activities, not food.
Take a walk to see the
neighborhood decorations,
sing some holiday carols, see
a play or volunteer to help
those in need.

Dec. 19th--To earn credit for this day do the following:

Tiny-size it. Cut
calories by
cutting portion sizes.
Cut pies into 10 slices
(not 6-8). Cut brownies
and cakes into bitesized pieces; and bake
smaller cookies and
mini muffins.

Dec. 20th--To earn credit for this day do some research on holiday races or marathons in your city and report it back to us.

Join a
holiday race.
Most cities offer running
and walking events on
and around holidays.
They not only raise
money for charity, but
also keep you active on
a day otherwise filled
with overindulgence.

Dec. 21st--To earn credit for this day you must have breakfast, lunch, and dinner today.

Don't skip meals. If you eat
healthy foods at regular intervals
throughout the day, you’re much
less likely to overeat at a party.

emoticon BONUS

Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep at least 3 days this week

REMINDER: Don't forget to post points by Wednesday night(Dec.21st).

Day 8: 12/8 Post office, return gloves to Kohl's, Walmart, Bank
12/10 Garbage to dump, get restaurant gift cards, Sams, gas up DH's car
12/13 Post office, Mammogram, library, take donation to Goodwill, Aldi's

Day 9: I wrote a blog about this; it's titled "Chocolate"

Day 10: Went to town as planned and just wore my legs out. Even went in Office Max with DH even though I didn't need anything & otherwise would've just stayed in the car.

Day 11: I've got protein bars in the glove box of both cars plus my purse. I bought a huge bag of almonds and counted out snack-size bags, ready to go. Also I keep small apples on hand-- I can grab a bag of almonds and a small apple to take with me every time I leave the house. (I carry a LARGE purse)

Day 12: I've been washing my hands constantly ever since I saw this listed for this week. Plus I've been putting on some scented hand lotion-- my hands are clean and smell good, too!

Day 13: Ate a good breakfast before I left the house, took an apple, protein bar, almonds & a water to eat while I was out.

Day 14: Did a lot extra yesterday (Blogged about it) and did 15 minutes extra today.

Bonus: See my shared Fitness Tracker 12/9, 12/11, 12/13. Key, you are either trying to inspire me to exercise more, or trying to kill me!

emoticon Week 1 Winners

1st Place: MISSRUTH
2nd Place: SPUTNIK512
3rd Place: VICIOUS421

emoticon WEEK 2 (Dec 8th - 14th):

Dec. 8th--To get points for this day create an organized list of your choice for the week.

Stay organized.
Keep a running list
of errands,
groceries, and gifts, and
make a plan to finish as
many things in as few
trips as possible.You'll
save time, gas and your
own sanity.

Dec. 9th--To get credit for this day journal before, during, and after you eat a irresistible food.

Think before you bite.
Before you try every
irresistible food that
crosses you path, think first.
How will you feel after you
eat them? Is the taste really
worth it? Could you enjoy
just a small amount instead.

Dec. 10th--To earn credit for this day walk briskly and take stairs whenever possible or:

Walk more. Keep
a brisk walking
pace while you do your
holiday shopping.
Instead of wasting time
looking for a closer
parking spot, take a faraway one to increase
your activity (and save
time).

Dec.11th--To earn credit for this day gather healthy snacks for emergencies.

Enjoy a preparty snack. If
you arrive famished,
you're more likely to
devour too much of the
wrong things.Try a
combination of fiber,
protein and healthy fats
for more filling power.

Dec. 12th-- To earn credit for this day wash hands every chance you get everyday.

Wash your
hands.The
holiday season
coincides with cold and
flu season. Keep germs
at bay by washing your
hands well after
shopping, visiting and
more. No one wants
sickness to interfere
with their fun!

Dec. 13th--To earn credit for this day eat before going shopping, corner store, or gas station.

Shop when full.
Shopping on an
empty stomach can
lead to overeating on
the unhealthy food
court fare. Also stash
some emergency
healthy snacks in your
car or purse.Try nuts,
whole grain crackers,
and dried fruit.

Dec.14th--To earn credit for this day, get in a good cardio session this week.

Sweat more.
Some research
shows that adding just
10 more minutes of
intense exercise to your
usual workout can stave
off holiday weight gain.

emoticon BONUS

Do 3 days of strength training this week 15min or more

REMINDER: Don't forget to post points by Wednesday night.

My sisters & I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles together, and shopping the after-Christmas sales. Just to have the 3 of us in the same place is such a gift, we don't have to do anything "special". I know there'll be plenty of opportunities to walk, with shopping and a trip to walk along the beach-- we can go for miles just talking.

Day 7: I track my food every day here on Spark.

Week 1 (Dec. 1 - Dec. 7th)

Dec. 1--To earn points for this day you must create your plan and share basic details with us.

Take inventory.
Identify all the
situations (office
parties,mall food
courts, family
gatherings) that make
it difficult for you to
eat healthy during the
holiday season. Make a
plan for staying on
track in every
situation

Dec. 2--To earn points for this day you must exercise at least 3 days this week for 30min

Stay active. Don’t
mistake being
"busy" for being
"active." You still need to
exercise at least 30
minutes each day. Break
it up into a few smaller
sessions throughout the
day if you're pressed for
time

Dec 3--To earn points for this day decide 1 or 2 holiday favorites are worth splurging for and post here.

Splurge wisely.
The holidays only
come once a year, but
the parties, events, and
gifts of food never seem
to end! Decide which
ones are really worth
splurging for, and leave
the other foods on the
table

Dec. 4--To earn points for this day take some time and decide who you'll be giving gifts to for Christmas.

Simplify gifts.
Your loved ones
probably feel just as
overwhelmed about
gifts as you do.
Instead of buying for
everyone, draw
names from a hat or
give to a charity in
someone’s honor

Dec. 5 --To earn points for this day find a healthy recipe and post the name of it here.

Try healthier
recipes. When
treats are in the house,
more of the dessert
usually ends up in your
belly than in your
guests. So keep some
low fat, low-calorie
recipes and foods on
hand

Dec. 6--To earn points for this day name some activities you can share with family on Christmas.

Focus on people.Too often,
food takes center stage of
our holiday gatherings.
Instead, focus on your
loved ones, activities,
and other traditions
that make the
holidays
meaningful

Dec. 7--To earn points for this day monitor your food intake (journal, sp nurtition tracker, etc)

Budget wisely.
Watch your food
intake during the day if
you're going to a party
that night. Make
healthy,filling choices
beforehand, budgeting
a few more calories to
account for the party
fare

emoticon BONUS

Eat 4 to 5 servings of veggies/fruit at least 4 days this week to earn 5 extra points.

REMINDER: Don't forget to post points by Wednesday night.
